Lettera ai Filippesi 2

1 Se (avete) dunque qualche consolazione in Cristo, se qualche conforto della carità, se qualche comunione di spirito, se viscere di compassione,	1 So if in Christ there is anything that will move you, any incentive in love, any fel owship in the Spirit, anywarmth or sympathy -- I appeal to you,
2 rendete perfetta la mia gioia, stando concordi con la stessa carità, di un solo animo e di un solo sentimento.	2 make my joy complete by being of a single mind, one in love, one in heart and one in mind.
3 Nulla fate per picca o per vana gloria; ma con umiltà ciascuno consideri gli altri come superiori,	3 Nothing is to be done out of jealousy or vanity; instead, out of humility of mind everyone should givepreference to others,
4 e non guardi al proprio interesse, ma a quello degli altri.	4 everyone pursuing not selfish interests but those of others.
5 Abbiate in voi gli stessi sentimenti di Cristo Gesù,	5 Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus:
6 il quale esistendo nella forma di Dio, non considerò questa sua uguaglianza con Dio come una rapina,	6 Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped.
7 ma annichilò se stesso, prendendo la forma di servo e divenendo simile agli uomini, apparve come semplice uomo;	7 But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in everyway like a human being,
8 umiliò se stesso fattosi obbediente fino alla morte e alla morte di croce.	8 he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross.
9 Per questo però anche Dio lo esaltò e gli donò un nome che è sopra ogni altro nome,	9 And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above al other names;
10 tale che nel nome di Gesù si deve piegare ogni ginocchio in cielo, in terra e nell'inferno,	10 so that al beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name ofJesus
11 ed ogni lingua, deve confessare che il Signore Gesù Cristo è nella gloria di Dio Padre.	11 and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Così, o miei dilettissimi, siccome siete sempre stati obbedienti. non soltanto quando io oro presente, ma, e molto più, ora nella mia assenza, procurate con timore e tremore la vostra salvezza,	12 So, my dear friends, you have always been obedient; your obedience must not be limited to timeswhen I am present. Now that I am absent it must be more in evidence, so work out your salvation in fear andtrembling.
13 perché è Dio che produce in voi il volere e il far secondo la sua buona volontà.	13 It is God who, for his own generous purpose, gives you the intention and the powers to act.
14 Tutto dunque fate senza mormorii, senza dispute,	14 Let your behaviour be free of murmuring and complaining
15 affinché siate irreprensibili e schietti figli di Dio, e immuni da colpa, in mezzo ad una nazione corrotta e perversa, tra la quale risplendete, come luminari del mondo,	15 so that you remain faultless and pure, unspoilt children of God surrounded by a deceitful andunderhand brood, shining out among them like bright stars in the world,
16 portando la parola di vita a mia gloria nel giorno di Cristo, in modo che io non ho corso invano, nè ho lavorato invano	16 proffering to it the Word of life. Then I shall have reason to be proud on the Day of Christ, for it wil notbe for nothing that I have run the race and toiled so hard.
17 ed anche se fossi offerto in libazione sopra il sacrificio e l'ostia della vostra fede, ne godo e me ne rallegro con tutti voi;	17 Indeed, even if my blood has to be poured as a libation over your sacrifice and the offering of yourfaith, then I shal be glad and join in your rejoicing-
18 ed anche voi godetene e rallegratevene con me.	18 and in the same way, you must be glad and join in my rejoicing.
19 Or io spero, nel Signore Gesù, di poter mandare quanto prima a voi Timoteo, per stare di buon animo, informato che sia delle vostre cose.	19 I hope, in the Lord Jesus, to send Timothy to you soon, so that my mind may be set at rest when I hearhow you are.
20 Non ho nessuno che abbia come lui i miei sentimenti e con sincero amore si affanni per voi;	20 There is nobody else that I can send who is like him and cares as sincerely for your well-being;
21 perchè tutti pensano ai loro interessi e non a quelli di Gesù Cristo.	21 they al want to work for themselves, not for Jesus Christ.
22 Ma lui lo conoscete a tutta prova e sapete che si è consacrato con me, come un figlio che lavora col padre, a servizio del Vangelo.	22 But you know what sort of person he has proved himself, working with me for the sake of the gospellike a son with his father.
23 Spero dunque di mandarvelo appena avrò veduto che piega prenderanno le mie cose:	23 That is the man, then, that I am hoping to send to you immediately I can make out what is going tohappen to me;
24 ma ho fiducia nel Signore di poter venire da voi anch'io quanto prima.	24 but I am confident in the Lord that I shal come myself, too, before long.
25 Intanto ho creduto necessario di mandarvi Epafrodito, mio fratello e compagno di lavoro e di combattimento, vostro inviato per sovvenire ai miei bisogni;	25 Nevertheless I thought it essential to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fel ow-worker andcompanion-in-arms since he came as your representative to look after my needs;

29 Ricevetelo adunque nel Signore con ogni gioia e tenete in onore tali persone,	29 Welcome him in the Lord, then, with al joy; hold people like him in honour,
30 perchè per l'opera di Cristo egli è stato vicino alla morte, ha messo a repentaglio la propria vita per supplirvi nei servigi che non avete potuto rendermi voi.	30 because it was for Christ's work that he came so near to dying, risking his life to do the duty to mewhich you could not do yourselves.
