BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La sapienza è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio e la legge che dura in eterno: tutti quelli che s'attengono ad essa giungeranno alla vita, quelli che l'abbandonano precipitano nella morte.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Convertiti, o Giacobbe, e abbracciala, cammina per la via al suo splendore che vien dalla sua luce.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria, e la tua dignità a nazione straniera.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Noi siam beati, o Israele, perchè ciò che piace a Dio ci è stato rivelato.	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Fatti coraggio, o popolo di Dio, o Israele degno di monumento.	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Siete stati venduti alle nazioni, non per essere annientati, ma perchè nello sdegno provocaste a sdegno Dio, siete stati dati in potere dei nemici.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Infatti voi esacerbaste colui che vi ha creati, l'eterno Dio, immolando ai demoni e non a Dio.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Vi dimenticaste di Dio che vi ha nutriti, e contristaste la nutrice vostra, Gerusalemme.	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 Essa vide piombare sopra di voi l'ira di Dio, e disse: Udite, o terre vicine a Sion: Dio m'ha mandato un gran dolore:	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 ho veduto il mio popolo, i miei figli, le mie figlie nell'esilio al quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Li avevo allevati con gioia, li ho lasciati con pianto e con dolore.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Nessuno si rallegri nel vedermi vedova e desolata! Son rimasta abbandonata da molti per i peccati dei miei figli, chè si allontanarono dalla legge di Dio,	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 non conobbero i suoi precetti, non camminaron per le vie dei comandamenti di Dio e non entrarono con giustizia nei sentieri della sua verità.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Vengan le vicine di Sion, ricordino la schiavitù dei miei figli e delle mie figlie, alla quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Fu infatti lui che fece venire contro di essi una nazione da lontano, una nazione perversa, d'altra lingua,	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 che non ebbe rispetto pei vecchi nè compassione pei fanciulli, e menò via i diletti della vedova, e mi ha lasciata desolata e priva di figli.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 Ed io come posso aiutarvi?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Colui che ha fatto venire sopra di voi i mali, egli stesso vi libererà dalle mani dei vostri nemici.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Andate, figli, andate, che io me ne resterò sola.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 Ho messo da parte il manto della pace ed ho indossato il cilizio della supplica, ed alzerò le grida all'Altissimo per tutti i giorni della mia vita.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Coraggio, o miei figli: gridate al Signore, ed Egli vi libererà dal potere dei principi nemici.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 Io ho imposta la mia speranza nell'Eterno, vostra salvezza, e il Santo mi ha fatto gioire per la misericordia che verrà a voi dall'Eterno, vostro salvatore.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Vi ho lasciati partire nel dolore e nel pianto, ma il Signore vi ricondurrà a me nella gioia, nell'allegrezza, per sempre.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 E come le vicine di Sion videro venire da Dio il vostro esilio, così vedran presto venir da Dio la vostra salvezza, che vi arriverà con grande gloria e con eterno splendore.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Figlioli, sopportate con pazienza l'ira che v'è piombata addosso: il vostro nemico v'ha perseguitati, ma ben presto ne vedrete la rovina, e metterete il piede sopra la sua testa.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 i miei (figli più) delicati han dovuto battere aspre strade; sono stati portati via come gregge rapito dai nemici.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Coraggio, o figlioli, alzate le vostre grida al Signore, che si ricorderà di voi colui che v'ha fatto deportare;	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 e come vi fu la vostra volontà nell'andar lungi da Dio, con ardore dieci volte più grande lo cercherete convertiti.	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 Colui che vi mandò questi mali, Egli stesso col darvi la vostra salvezza, vi manderà una gioia sempiterna.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Fatti coraggio, o Gerusalemme, ti esorta colui che t'ha dato il nome.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Periranno i malfattori che ti straziarono, e quelli che si son rallegrati della tua rovina saran puniti,	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 saran castigate le città alle quali servirono i tuoi figli, e quella che ritenne seco i tuoi figlioli.	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Come si rallegrò della tua rovina, e fece festa per la tua caduta, così sarà contristata dalla propria desolazione.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 E le sarà tolta la gioia della sua moltitudine, e la sua allegria sarà cangiata in lutto.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Un fuoco sarà mandato sopra di lei dall'Eterno per lunghi giorni, ed essa per lungo tempo sarà abitata dai demoni.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Guarda dalla parte dell'Oriente, o Gerusalemme, e guarda la gioia che ti viene da Dio:	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 ecco che ritornano i tuoi figli che tu lasciasti andare dispersi, vengono radunati dall'Oriente all'Occidente alla parola del Santo, pieni di gioia per la gloria di Dio.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
