1 La sapienza è il libro dei comandamenti di Dio e la legge che dura in eterno: tutti quelli che s'attengono ad essa giungeranno alla vita, quelli che l'abbandonano precipitano nella morte.	1 She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; All who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her.
2 Convertiti, o Giacobbe, e abbracciala, cammina per la via al suo splendore che vien dalla sua luce.	2 Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor.
3 Non dare ad altri la tua gloria, e la tua dignità a nazione straniera.	3 Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race.
4 Noi siam beati, o Israele, perchè ciò che piace a Dio ci è stato rivelato.	4 Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!
5 Fatti coraggio, o popolo di Dio, o Israele degno di monumento.	5 Fear not, my people! Remember, Israel,
6 Siete stati venduti alle nazioni, non per essere annientati, ma perchè nello sdegno provocaste a sdegno Dio, siete stati dati in potere dei nemici.	6 You were sold to the nations not for your destruction; It was because you angered God that you were handed over to your foes.
7 Infatti voi esacerbaste colui che vi ha creati, l'eterno Dio, immolando ai demoni e non a Dio.	7 For you provoked your Maker with sacrifices to demons, to no-gods;
8 Vi dimenticaste di Dio che vi ha nutriti, e contristaste la nutrice vostra, Gerusalemme.	8 You forsook the Eternal God who nourished you, and you grieved Jerusalem who fostered you.
9 Essa vide piombare sopra di voi l'ira di Dio, e disse: Udite, o terre vicine a Sion: Dio m'ha mandato un gran dolore:	9 She indeed saw coming upon you the anger of God; and she said: "Hear, you neighbors of Zion! God has brought great mourning upon me,
10 ho veduto il mio popolo, i miei figli, le mie figlie nell'esilio al quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.	10 For I have seen the captivity that the Eternal God has brought upon my sons and daughters.
11 Li avevo allevati con gioia, li ho lasciati con pianto e con dolore.	11 With joy I fostered them; but with mourning and lament I let them go.
12 Nessuno si rallegri nel vedermi vedova e desolata! Son rimasta abbandonata da molti per i peccati dei miei figli, chè si allontanarono dalla legge di Dio,	12 Let no one gloat over me, a widow, bereft of many: For the sins of my children I am left desolate, because they turned from the law of God,
13 non conobbero i suoi precetti, non camminaron per le vie dei comandamenti di Dio e non entrarono con giustizia nei sentieri della sua verità.	13 and did not acknowledge his statutes; In the ways of God's commandments they did not walk, nor did they tread the disciplined paths of his justice.
14 Vengan le vicine di Sion, ricordino la schiavitù dei miei figli e delle mie figlie, alla quale li ha condannati l'Eterno.	14 "Let Zion's neighbors come, to take note of the captivity of my sons and daughters, brought upon them by the Eternal God.
15 Fu infatti lui che fece venire contro di essi una nazione da lontano, una nazione perversa, d'altra lingua,	15 He has brought against them a nation from afar, a nation ruthless and of alien speech, That has neither reverence for age nor tenderness for childhood;
16 che non ebbe rispetto pei vecchi nè compassione pei fanciulli, e menò via i diletti della vedova, e mi ha lasciata desolata e priva di figli.	16 They have led away this widow's cherished sons, have left me solitary, without daughters.
17 Ed io come posso aiutarvi?	17 What can I do to help you?
18 Colui che ha fatto venire sopra di voi i mali, egli stesso vi libererà dalle mani dei vostri nemici.	18 He who has brought this evil upon you must himself deliver you from your enemies' hands.
19 Andate, figli, andate, che io me ne resterò sola.	19 Farewell, my children, farewell: I am left desolate.
20 Ho messo da parte il manto della pace ed ho indossato il cilizio della supplica, ed alzerò le grida all'Altissimo per tutti i giorni della mia vita.	20 I have taken off the garment of peace, have put on sackcloth for my prayer of supplication, and while I live I will cry out to the Eternal God.
21 Coraggio, o miei figli: gridate al Signore, ed Egli vi libererà dal potere dei principi nemici.	21 "Fear not, my children; call upon God, who will deliver you from oppression at enemy hands.
22 Io ho imposta la mia speranza nell'Eterno, vostra salvezza, e il Santo mi ha fatto gioire per la misericordia che verrà a voi dall'Eterno, vostro salvatore.	22 I have trusted in the Eternal God for your welfare, and joy has come to me from the Holy One Because of the mercy that will swiftly reach you from your eternal savior.
23 Vi ho lasciati partire nel dolore e nel pianto, ma il Signore vi ricondurrà a me nella gioia, nell'allegrezza, per sempre.	23 With mourning and lament I sent you forth, but God will give you back to me with enduring gladness and joy.
24 E come le vicine di Sion videro venire da Dio il vostro esilio, così vedran presto venir da Dio la vostra salvezza, che vi arriverà con grande gloria e con eterno splendore.	24 As Zion's neighbors lately saw you taken captive, so shall they soon see God's salvation come to you, with great glory and the splendor of the Eternal God.
25 Figlioli, sopportate con pazienza l'ira che v'è piombata addosso: il vostro nemico v'ha perseguitati, ma ben presto ne vedrete la rovina, e metterete il piede sopra la sua testa.	25 "My children, bear patiently the anger that has come from God upon you; Your enemies have persecuted you, and you will soon see their destruction and trample upon their necks.
26 i miei (figli più) delicati han dovuto battere aspre strade; sono stati portati via come gregge rapito dai nemici.	26 My pampered children have trodden rough roads, carried off by their enemies like sheep in a raid.
27 Coraggio, o figlioli, alzate le vostre grida al Signore, che si ricorderà di voi colui che v'ha fatto deportare;	27 Fear not, my children; call out to God! He who brought this upon you will remember you.
28 e come vi fu la vostra volontà nell'andar lungi da Dio, con ardore dieci volte più grande lo cercherete convertiti.	28 As your hearts have been disposed to stray from God, turn now ten times the more to seek him;
29 Colui che vi mandò questi mali, Egli stesso col darvi la vostra salvezza, vi manderà una gioia sempiterna.	29 For he who has brought disaster upon you will, in saving you, bring you back enduring joy."
30 Fatti coraggio, o Gerusalemme, ti esorta colui che t'ha dato il nome.	30 Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement.
31 Periranno i malfattori che ti straziarono, e quelli che si son rallegrati della tua rovina saran puniti,	31 Fearful are those who harmed you, who rejoiced at your downfall;
32 saran castigate le città alle quali servirono i tuoi figli, e quella che ritenne seco i tuoi figlioli.	32 Fearful are the cities where your children were enslaved, fearful the city that took your sons.
33 Come si rallegrò della tua rovina, e fece festa per la tua caduta, così sarà contristata dalla propria desolazione.	33 As that city rejoiced at your collapse, and made merry at your downfall, so shall she grieve over her own desolation.
34 E le sarà tolta la gioia della sua moltitudine, e la sua allegria sarà cangiata in lutto.	34 I will take from her the joyous throngs, and her exultation shall be turned to mourning:
35 Un fuoco sarà mandato sopra di lei dall'Eterno per lunghi giorni, ed essa per lungo tempo sarà abitata dai demoni.	35 For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal God, for a long time, and demons shall dwell in her from that time on.
36 Guarda dalla parte dell'Oriente, o Gerusalemme, e guarda la gioia che ti viene da Dio:	36 Look to the east, Jerusalem! behold the joy that comes to you from God.
37 ecco che ritornano i tuoi figli che tu lasciasti andare dispersi, vengono radunati dall'Oriente all'Occidente alla parola del Santo, pieni di gioia per la gloria di Dio.	37 Here come your sons whom you once let go, gathered in from the east and from the west By the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
