| 1 In quel tempo Ezechia cadde in una malattia mortale, e il profeta Isaia figlio di Amos, andato a trovarlo, gli disse: « Così dice il Signore Dio: Metti in ordine le tue cose, perchè tu morrai e non potrai vivere ». | 1 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not recover.'" |
| 2 Ezechia, voltata la faccia verso la parete, pregò il Signore dicendo: | 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the LORD, saying, |
| 3 « Te ne prego, o Signore, e ti scongiuro a ricordarti come io ho camminato dinanzi a te nella verità e con cuore perfetto, ed ho fatto ciò che è gradito davanti ai tuoi occhi ». Ezechia si mise a piangere dirottamente. | 3 "Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in thy sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. |
| 4 Isaia non aveva ancora passata la metà dell'atrio, quando gli fu indirizzata la parola del Signore in questi termini: | 4 And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him: |
| 5 « Ritorna a dire ad Ezechia capo del mio popolo: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio di David tuo padre: Ho sentita la tua preghiera; ho vedute le tue lacrime, ed ecco ti ho risanato: fra tre giorni saalirai al tempio del Signore. | 5 "Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you; on the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. |
| 6 Anzi aggiungerò quindici anni alla stua vita, e di più libererò te e questa città dal re d'Assiria e proteggerò questa città per amore mio se per amore di David mio servo ». | 6 And I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake." |
| 7 Isaia disse: « Portate una massa di fichi ». La portarono. Come l'ebbero messa sopra l'ulcera del re, egli guarì. | 7 And Isaiah said, "Bring a cake of figs. And let them take and lay it on the boil, that he may recover." |
| 8 Ezechia aveva detto ad Isaia: « Quale sarà il segno che il Signore mi guarirà, e che fra tre giorni io salirò al tempio del Signore? » | 8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD on the third day?" |
| 9 Isaia gli disse: « Ecco da parte del Signore il segno che il Signore compirà la sua parola: Che vuoi? Che l'ombra salga per dieci linee, o che torni indietro per altrettanti gradi?» | 9 And Isaiah said, "This is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?" |
| 10 Ezechia rispose: «Che l'ombra cresca di dieci linee è facile: non questo voglio; ma che torni indietro dieci gradi ». | 10 And Hezekiah answered, "It is an easy thing for the shadow to lengthen ten steps; rather let the shadow go back ten steps." |
| 11 Invocato il Signore, il profeta Isaia ricondusse l'ombra per le linee per le quali era già discesa nell'orologio di Acaz, dieci gradi indietro. | 11 And Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD; and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which the sun had declined on the dial of Ahaz. |
| 12 In quel tempo Berodac Baladan, figlio di Baladan re di Babilonia, mandò una lettera e doni ad Ezechia, perchè aveva sentito dire che era stato ammalato. | 12 At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah; for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. |
| 13 Ezechia fece festa alla loro venuta e mostrò loro la casa degli aromi, l'oro, l'argento, i vari profumi e unguenti, le stanze dei suoi vasellami e tutto quello che poteva avere nei suoi tesori. Non vi fu oggetto nella sua casa e nei suoi possessi che Ezechia non facesse loro vedere. | 13 And Hezekiah welcomed them, and he showed them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses; there was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. |
| 14 Ma il profeta Isaia andò a dire al re Ezechia: « Che han detto quegli uomini e da che parte son venuti da te? » Ezechia rispose: « Son venuti a me da lontano paese, da Babilonia ». | 14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, "What did these men say? And whence did they come to you?" And Hezekiah said, "They have come from a far country, from Babylon." |
| 15 Allora Isaia disse: « Che han veduto nella tua casa? » Ezechia rispose: « Han veduto tutto quello che si trova in casa mia: non vi è nulla nei miei tesori che io non abbia loro mostrato ». | 15 He said, "What have they seen in your house?" And Hezekiah answered, "They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them." |
| 16 Disse allora Isaia ad Ezechia: « Ascolta la parola del Signore: | 16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD: |
| 17 Ecco verrà il tempo in cui tutte le cose che sono nella tua casa e tutto quello che i tuoi padri hanno accumulato sino a questo giorno, sarà portato a Babilonia: non resterà nulla, dice il Signore. | 17 Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left, says the LORD. |
| 18 Ed anche dei tuoi figli prenderanno, quelli che nasceranno da te, che tu genererai, i quali saranno eunuchi nel palazzo del re di Babilonia». | 18 And some of your own sons, who are born to you, shall be taken away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon." |
| 19 Ezechia rispose ad Isaia: « La parola del Signore da te pronunziata è giusta: ci sia pace e verità durante la mia vita». | 19 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, "The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good." For he thought, "Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?" |
| 20 Il resto degli atti di Ezechia, tutte le sue prodezze, come egli fece la piscina e l'acquedotto e portò le acque in città, queste cose non sono scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda? | 20 The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? |
| 21 Ezechia si addormentò coi suoi padri, e gli successe nel regno Manasse suo figlio. | 21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead. |
