1 - Disse poi Davide in cuor suo: «Una volta o l'altra finirò per cadere nelle mani di Saul. Non è forse meglio che me ne fugga e mi ponga in salvo nel territorio dei Filistei, affinchè Saul, perduta ogni speranza, cessi dal cercarmi entro i confini d'Israele? Fuggirò dunque dalle sue mani».	1 But David said to himself: "I shall perish some day at the hand of Saul. I have no choice but to escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will give up his continual search for me throughout the land of Israel, and I shall be out of his reach."
2 Elevatosi Davide se ne andò coi suoi seicento uomini ad Achis figlio di Maoc, re di Get.	2 Accordingly, David departed with his six hundred men and went over to Achish, son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 Davide dimorò con Achis in Get, egli e i suoi, ciascuno colla sua famiglia e Davide colle sue due mogli Achinoam di Jezrael e Abigail che fu moglie di Nabal, del Carmelo.	3 David and his men lived in Gath with Achish; each one had his family, and David had his two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel.
4 A Saul venne riferito della fuga di Davide in Get, e cessò quindi dal farne ulteriore ricerca.	4 When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.
5 Frattanto disse Davide ad Achis: «Se ho trovato grazia a' tuoi occhi mi si assegni un luogo in una delle città di questa regione per dimorarvi. Per qual motivo resterà teco il tuo servo nella città reale?».	5 David said to Achish: "If I meet with your approval, let me have a place to live in one of the country towns. Why should your servant live with you in the royal city?"
6 Achis assegnò in quel giorno a Davide la città di Siceleg, e perciò Siceleg divenne la città dei re di Giuda e lo è fino ad ora.	6 That same day Achish gave him Ziklag, which has, therefore, belonged to the kings of Judah up to the present time.
7 Il tempo che Davide abitò nella regione dei Filistei fu di quattro mesi.	7 In all, David lived a year and four months in the country of the Philistines.
8 Davide saliva coi suoi a fare scorrerie contro Gessuri, Gerzi e gli Amaleciti, i quali da gran tempo abitavano i villaggi sulla via che da Sur va in Egitto.	8 David and his men went up and made raids on the Geshurites, Girzites, and Amalekites-peoples living in the land between Telam, on the approach to Shur, and the land of Egypt.
9 E Davide devastava l'intero paese e senza lasciar vivi nè uomini nè donne depredava pecore, buoi, asini, cammelli e vesti; poi ritornava e si presentava ad Achis.	9 In attacking the land David would not leave a man or woman alive, but would carry off sheep, oxen, asses, camels, and clothes. On his return he brought these to Achish,
10 Achis gli domandava: «Contro chi hai fatto oggi le tue scorrerie?». Davide rispondeva: «A mezzogiorno di Giuda e a mezzogiorno di Jerameel, e a mezzogiorno di Ceni».	10 who asked, "Whom did you raid this time?" And David answered, "The Negeb of Judah," or "The Negeb of Jerahmeel," or "The Negeb of the Kenites."
11 Davide poi non lasciava vivo nè uomo nè donna e non ne conduceva in Get, dicendo: «Potrebbero parlare contro di noi». Così operava Davide e così aveva stabilito di fare in tutto quel tempo che abitò nel territorio dei Filistei.	11 But David would not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, fearing that they would betray him by saying, "This is what David did." This was his custom as long as he lived in the country of the Philistines.
12 Achis poi aveva grande fiducia in Davide e diceva: «Egli ha recato al suo popolo d'Israele tanti mali; sarà dunque per sempre mio servo».	12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, "He must certainly be detested by his people Israel. I shall have him as my vassal forever."
