1 - Tutti i figli d'Israele si riunirono in Silo, dove collocarono il tabernacolo dell'alleanza e il paese fu a loro assoggettato.	1 After they had subdued the land, the whole community of the Israelites assembled at Shiloh, where they set up the meeting tent.
2 Restavano però ancora sette tribù dei figli di Israele, le quali non avevano ancora ricevuto i loro possedimenti.	2 Seven tribes among the Israelites had not yet received their heritage.
3 Ad essi Giosuè disse: «Fin quando resterete nell'ignavia e non prenderete possesso della terra che il Signor Dio dei padri vostri vi ha dato?	3 Joshua therefore said to the Israelites, "How much longer will you put off taking steps to possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
4 Eleggetevi tre uomini per ciascuna tribù perchè io li mandi a percorrere il paese per descriverlo secondo il numero di ciascuna tribù e mi riferiscano poi ciò che avran descritto.	4 Choose three men from each of your tribes; I will commission them to begin a survey of the land, which they shall describe for purposes of inheritance. When they return to me
5 Voi allora vi dividerete tutto il territorio in sette parti: Giuda resterà nei suoi confini verso mezzogiorno e la casa di Giuseppe a settentrione di essi.	5 you shall divide it into seven parts. Judah is to retain its territory in the south, and the house of Joseph its territory in the north.
6 Il resto del paese lo dividerete in sette parti e verrete qui da me affinchè dinanzi al Signore Dio vostro ve lo divida secondo la sorte;	6 You shall bring here to me the description of the land in seven sections. I will then cast lots for you here before the LORD, our God.
7 la tribù di Levi invece non avrà parte fra voi, perchè la loro eredità è il sacerdozio del Signore. Gad poi, Ruben e mezza tribù di Manasse han già ricevuto dalla mano di Mosè, servo del Signore, i loro possedimenti al di là del Giordano verso oriente».	7 For the Levites have no share among you, because the priesthood of the LORD is their heritage; while Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received the heritage east of the Jordan which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave them."
8 Quando gli uomini si levarono per andare a perlustrare il paese, Giosuè diede quest'ordine: «Percorretelo tutto e fatene la descrizione; poi tornate da me, affinchè dinanzi al Signore, in Silo, ve lo divida secondo la sorte».	8 When those who were to map out the land were ready for the journey, Joshua instructed them to survey the land, prepare a description of it, and return to him; then he would cast lots for them there before the LORD in Shiloh.
9 Ed essi se ne andarono, perlustrarono il paese, e lo divisero in sette parti descrivendole in un volume, poi tornarono da Giosuè in Silo, nell'accampamento,	9 So they went through the land, listed its cities in writing in seven sections, and returned to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.
10 ed egli trasse loro le sorti dinanzi al Signore in Silo e divise il territorio ai figli d'Israele in sette parti.	10 Joshua then divided up the land for the Israelites into their separate shares, casting lots for them before the LORD in Shiloh.
11 La prima sorte toccò ai figli di Beniamino, secondo le loro famiglie ed essi possedettero il territorio tra i figli di Giuda e quelli di Giuseppe.	11 One lot fell to the clans of the tribe of Benjaminites. The territory allotted them lay between the descendants of Judah and those of Joseph.
12 Il loro confine verso settentrione partiva dal Giordano, andava a nord di Gerico e salendo verso occidente sui monti raggiungeva il deserto di Betaven,	12 Their northern boundary began at the Jordan and went over the northern flank of Jericho, up westward into the mountains, till it reached the desert of Beth-aven.
13 passava accanto a Luza, cioè Betel, dalla parte meridionale; discendeva in Atarot Addar fra i monti che sono a mezzogiorno di Betoron inferiore	13 From there it crossed over to the southern flank of Luz (that is, Bethel). Then it ran down to Ataroth-addar, on the mountaintop south of Lower Beth-horon.
14 piegando dal lato del mare a mezzogiorno del monte che è di fronte e a mezzogiorno di Betoron e termina in Cariatbaal, che si chiama anche Cariatiarim, città dei figli di Giuda. Questo è il territorio che sta ad occidente verso il mare.	14 For the western border, the boundary line swung south from the mountaintop opposite Bethhoron till it reached Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), which city belonged to the Judahites. This was the western boundary.
15 Dal lato meridionale il confine cominciava ad occidente dalla parte di Cariatiarim, raggiungeva la fontana delle acque di Neftoa,	15 The southern boundary began at the limits of Kiriath-jearim and projected to the spring at Nephtoah.
16 discendeva lungo il monte che guarda la valle dei figli di Ennom, che si trova a settentrione della valle di Rafaim, discende a Geennom, (cioè nella valle di Ennom), a mezzogiorno dei Jebusei e raggiunge la fontana di Rogel.	16 It went down to the edge of the mountain on the north of the Valley of Rephaim, where it faces the Valley of Ben-hinnom; and continuing down the Valley of Hinnom along the southern flank of the Jebusites, reached En-rogel.
17 Passa verso nord, esce a Ensemes, cioè alla fonte del sole	17 Inclining to the north, it extended to En-shemesh, and thence to Geliloth, opposite the pass of Adummim. Then it dropped to Eben-Bohan-ben-Reuben,
18 e continua fino ai tumuli che sono nella regione della salita di Adommim. Discende ad Abenboen, cioè alla pietra di Boen figlio di Ruben; passa a nord sino alla campagna, e scende nella pianura	18 across the northern flank of the Arabah overlook, down into the Aarabah.
19 e continua sul lato settentrionale di Betagla per terminare alla lingua di terra settentrionale del mare salato verso la foce del Giordano a mezzogiorno;	19 From there the boundary continued across the northern flank of Beth-hoglah and extended to the northern tip of the Salt Sea, at the southern end of the Jordan. This was the southern boundary.
20 e questo è il confine verso oriente. Tale fu il possedimento dei figli di Beniamino coi suoi confini da tutti i lati e secondo le loro famiglie.	20 The Jordan bounded it on the east. This was how the heritage of the clans of the Benjaminites was bounded on all sides.
21 Le città di quel territorio furono: Gerico, Betagla, la Valle di Casis,	21 Now the cities belonging to the clans of the tribe of the Benjaminites were: Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,
22 Betaraba, Samaraim, Betel,	22 Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
23 Avim, Afara, Ofera,	23 Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
24 il villaggio di Emona, Ofni e Gabee: dodici città colle loro borgate;	24 Chephar-ammoni, Ophni and Geba; twelve cities and their villages.
25 Gabaon, Rama, Berot,	25 Also Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
26 Mesfe, Cafara, Amosa,	26 Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah,
27 Recem, Iarefel, Tarela,	27 Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
28 Sela, Elef, Iebus, che è Gerusalemme, Gabaat e Cariat: quattordici città con le loro borgate. Tale fu il possedimento dei figli di Beniamino, secondo le loro famiglie.	28 Zela, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah and Kiriath; fourteen cities and their villages. This was the heritage of the clans of Benjaminites.
