BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Queste sono le regole di giustizia che tu proporrai loro.	1 'These are the laws you must give them:
2 Se avrai comprato uno schiavo ebreo, ti servirà per sei anni; al settimo rimarrà libero gratuitamente.	2 'When you buy a Hebrew slave, his service will last for six years. In the seventh year he wil leave afree man without paying compensation.
3 Con quella veste con la quale entrò, uscirà; se entrò avendo moglie, questa uscirà liberà del pari.	3 If he came single, he wil depart single; if he came married, his wife wil depart with him.
4 Se poi il padrone gli avrà dato moglie, e questa avrà partorito figli e figlie, la donna ed i bambini saranno del suo padrone, ed egli uscirà solo col suo vestito.	4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children wilbelong to her master, and he wil depart alone.
5 Che se il servo dirà: - Io voglio bene al mio padrone, alla moglie ed ai figliuoli, e non me n'andrò libero,	5 But if the slave says, "I love my master and my wife and children; I do not wish to be freed,"
6 il padrone lo condurrà innanzi ai giudici, ed accostatolo alla porta ed alle sue imposte, gli perforerà l'orecchio con una lesina e sarà suo servo per sempre.	6 then his master wil bring him before God and then, leading him to the door or the doorpost, his masterwil pierce his ear with an awl, and the slave wil be permanently his.
7 Se uno vende la figlia per serva, essa non diverrà poi libera alla maniera delle altre serve.	7 If a man sel s his daughter as a slave, she wil not leave as male slaves do.
8 Se verrà a dispiacere agli occhi del padrone al quale era stata data, egli la rimanderà; ma non avrà diritto di venderla ad uno di gente straniera, dopo averla così disprezzata.	8 If she does not please her master who intended her for himself, he must let her be bought back: hehas not the right to sell her to foreigners, for this would be a breach of faith with her.
9 Se invece la darà sposa ad un suo figlio, la tratterà come figliuola.	9 If he intends her for his son, he must treat her as custom requires daughters to be treated.
10 Che se dopo ne prende per lui un'altra assicuri alla prima le nozze, il vestiario ed il prezzo della sua verginità.	10 If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing or conjugal rights of the first one.
11 Se non le si daranno queste tre cose, rimarrà libera senza sborsar denaro.	11 Should he deprive her of these three things she wil leave a free woman, without payingcompensation.
12 Chi avrà percosso un uomo con volontà d'ucciderlo, sia messo a morte.	12 'Anyone who by violence causes a death must be put to death.
13 Ma se non gli avrà teso insidia, e solo Dio glielo avrà fatto capitare fra le mani, ti stabilirò un luogo nel quale egli debba rifugiarsi.	13 If, however, he has not planned to do it but it comes from God by his hand, he can take refuge in aplace which I shal appoint for you.
14 Se premeditatamente e con insidia avrà ucciso un suo prossimo, lo strapperai anche dal mio altare per farlo morire.	14 But should any person dare to kill another with deliberate planning, you wil take that person evenfrom my altar to be put to death.
15 Chi percuoterà il padre o la madre, sia punito di morte.	15 'Anyone who strikes father or mother wil be put to death.
16 Chi avrà rapito un uomo e l'avrà venduto, convinto di questa colpa sia messo a morte.	16 Anyone who abducts a person -- whether that person has since been sold or is stil held -- wil be putto death.
17 Chi avrà maledetto il padre o la madre, sia messo a morte.	17 Anyone who curses father or mother will be put to death.
18 Se degli uomini faranno rissa, ed uno percoterà un suo prossimo con una pietra o col pugno; se quegli non rimarrà morto, ma dovrà stare a letto,	18 'If people quarrel and one strikes the other a blow with stone or fist so that the injured party, thoughnot dead, is confined to bed,
19 e poi s'alzerà e camminerà fuori appoggiato al suo bastone, chi l'avrà percosso non sarà punito; ma dovrà rifargli i danni del perduto lavoro, e le spese per i medici.	19 but later recovers and can go about, even with a stick, the one who struck the blow wil have noliability, other than to compensate the injured party for the enforced inactivity and to take care of the injured partyuntil the cure is complete.
20 Chi batterà con la verga lo schiavo o la schiava, ed essi moriranno sotto le sue mani, sarà reo di delitto.	20 'If someone beats his slave, male or female, and the slave dies at his hands, he must pay thepenalty.
21 Ma se sopravviveranno un giorno o due, non subirà pena, perché è danaro suo.	21 But should the slave survive for one or two days, he will pay no penalty because the slave is his byright of purchase.
22 Se degli uomini risseranno fra loro, ed uno percoterà una donna incinta, e la farà abortire, restando però essa viva, compenserà il danno, secondo che il marito di quella domanderà e gli arbitri stabiliranno.	22 'If people, when brawling, hurt a pregnant woman and she suffers a miscarriage but no further harmis done, the person responsible wil pay compensation as fixed by the woman's master, paying as much as thejudges decide.
23 Ma se avverrà la morte di lei, renderà vita per vita,	23 If further harm is done, however, you wil award life for life,
24 occhio per occhio, dente per dente, mano per mano, piede per piede,	24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 bruciatura per bruciatura, piaga per piaga, livido per livido.	25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stroke for stroke.
26 Se uno percoterà un suo schiavo o una schiava in un occhio, e glielo farà perdere, li lascerà liberi in cambio dell'occhio che tolse loro.	26 'If anyone strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys the use of it, he wil give theslave his freedom to compensate for the eye.
27 Anche chi avrà fatto cadere un dente ad uno schiavo o ad una schiava sua, parimente li rimanderà liberi.	27 If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he wil give the slave his freedom tocompensate for the tooth.
28 Se un bove avrà cozzato con le corna un uomo o una donna, e li avrà fatti morire, sarà lapidato, e le sue carni non si mangeranno; ma il suo padrone non ne porterà la pena.	28 'If an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox wil be stoned and its meat wil not be eaten, but theowner of the ox wil not be liable.
29 Se però il bove cozzava già da qualche tempo, e ne fu fatto reclamo al padrone, il quale non lo rinchiuse, così che ora ha ucciso un uomo o una donna, in tal senso verrà lapidato il bove, e messo a morte il suo padrone.	29 But if the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and if its owner has been warned but has not keptit under control, then should this ox kil a man or woman, it wil be stoned and its owner put to death.
30 Ma se gli verrà imposta un'ammenda, dia, per aver salva la vita, tutto quel che gli sarà chiesto.	30 If a ransom is imposed on the owner, he wil pay whatever is imposed, to redeem his life.
31 Se avrà cozzato un fanciullo o una fanciulla, il padrone sottostarà alla medesima sentenza.	31 If the ox gores a boy or a girl, it will be treated in accordance with this same rule.
32 Se avrà colpito uno schiavo o una schiava, darà trenta sicli d'argento al padrone, ed il bove sarà lapidato.	32 If the ox gores a slave, male or female, its owner will pay the price -- thirty shekels -- to their master,and the ox will be stoned.
33 Se uno avrà aperto una cisterna, o l'avrà scavata, e poi non l'avrà richiusa, ed un bove od un asino vi sarà caduto dentro,	33 'If anyone leaves a pit uncovered, or digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox, or donkey fal s into it,
34 il padrone della cisterna rifarà il prezzo di quelli animali; ma la bestia morta sarà sua.	34 then the owner of the pit will make good the loss by compensating its owner, and the dead animal willbe his.
35 Se il bove d'uno ferirà il bove d'un altro, questo rimanga morto, venderanno il vivo, e se ne divideranno il prezzo; anche il morto, se lo spartiranno fra loro.	35 If anyone's ox injures anyone else's ox causing its death, the owners wil sel and share the moneyfor it; they will also share the dead animal.
36 Ma se il padrone sapeva già da qualche tempo che il suo bove cozzava, e non lo ha custodito, renderà bove per bove, e prenderà per sè tutto il morto.	36 But if it is common knowledge that the ox has been in the habit of goring before, and its owner hasnot kept it under control, the owner wil repay ox for ox, and wil keep the dead animal.
	37 'If anyone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sel s it, he wil pay back five beasts from theherd for the ox, and four animals from the flock for the sheep.'
