1 In quel momento i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù dicendo: «Chi dunque è più grande nel regno dei cieli?».	1 At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?'
2 Allora chiamò a sé un bambino, lo pose in mezzo a loro	2 So he cal ed a little child to him whom he set among them.
3 e disse: «In verità io vi dico: se non vi convertirete e non diventerete come i bambini, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.	3 Then he said, 'In truth I tel you, unless you change and become like little children you wil never enterthe kingdom of Heaven.
4 Perciò chiunque si farà piccolo come questo bambino, costui è il più grande nel regno dei cieli.	4 And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven.
5 E chi accoglierà un solo bambino come questo nel mio nome, accoglie me.	5 'Anyone who welcomes one little child like this in my name welcomes me.
6 Chi invece scandalizzerà uno solo di questi piccoli che credono in me, gli conviene che gli venga appesa al collo una macina da mulino e sia gettato nel profondo del mare.	6 But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be betterdrowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.
7 Guai al mondo per gli scandali! È inevitabile che vengano scandali, ma guai all’uomo a causa del quale viene lo scandalo!	7 Alas for the world that there should be such causes of fal ing! Causes of falling indeed there must be,but alas for anyone who provides them!
8 Se la tua mano o il tuo piede ti è motivo di scandalo, taglialo e gettalo via da te. È meglio per te entrare nella vita monco o zoppo, anziché con due mani o due piedi essere gettato nel fuoco eterno.	8 'If your hand or your foot should be your downfal , cut it off and throw it away: it is better for you toenter into life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
9 E se il tuo occhio ti è motivo di scandalo, cavalo e gettalo via da te. È meglio per te entrare nella vita con un occhio solo, anziché con due occhi essere gettato nella Geènna del fuoco.	9 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away: it is better for you to enter intolife with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hel of fire.
10 Guardate di non disprezzare uno solo di questi piccoli, perché io vi dico che i loro angeli nei cieli vedono sempre la faccia del Padre mio che è nei cieli.	10 'See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tel you that theirin heaven are continually inthe presence of my Father in heaven.

12 Che cosa vi pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e una di loro si smarrisce, non lascerà le novantanove sui monti e andrà a cercare quella che si è smarrita?	12 'Tel me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray?
13 In verità io vi dico: se riesce a trovarla, si rallegrerà per quella più che per le novantanove che non si erano smarrite.	13 In truth I tel you, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at al .
14 Così è volontà del Padre vostro che è nei cieli, che neanche uno di questi piccoli si perda.	14 Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.
15 Se il tuo fratello commetterà una colpa contro di te, va’ e ammoniscilo fra te e lui solo; se ti ascolterà, avrai guadagnato il tuo fratello;	15 'If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. Ifhe listens to you, you have won back your brother.
16 se non ascolterà, prendi ancora con te una o due persone, perché ogni cosa sia risolta sulla parola di due o tre testimoni.	16 If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: whatever the misdemeanour, theevidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain the charge.
17 Se poi non ascolterà costoro, dillo alla comunità; e se non ascolterà neanche la comunità, sia per te come il pagano e il pubblicano.	17 But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to thecommunity, treat him like a gentile or a tax col ector.
18 In verità io vi dico: tutto quello che legherete sulla terra sarà legato in cielo, e tutto quello che scioglierete sulla terra sarà sciolto in cielo.	18 'In truth I tel you, whatever you bind on earth wil be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earthwil be loosed in heaven.
19 In verità io vi dico ancora: se due di voi sulla terra si metteranno d’accordo per chiedere qualunque cosa, il Padre mio che è nei cieli gliela concederà.	19 'In truth I tel you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at al , it wil be granted toyou by my Father in heaven.
20 Perché dove sono due o tre riuniti nel mio nome, lì sono io in mezzo a loro».	20 For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'
21 Allora Pietro gli si avvicinò e gli disse: «Signore, se il mio fratello commette colpe contro di me, quante volte dovrò perdonargli? Fino a sette volte?».	21 Then Peter went up to him and said, 'Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? Asoften as seven times?'
22 E Gesù gli rispose: «Non ti dico fino a sette volte, ma fino a settanta volte sette.	22 Jesus answered, 'Not seven, I tel you, but seventy-seven times.
23 Per questo, il regno dei cieli è simile a un re che volle regolare i conti con i suoi servi.	23 'And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts withhis servants.
24 Aveva cominciato a regolare i conti, quando gli fu presentato un tale che gli doveva diecimila talenti.	24 When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents;
25 Poiché costui non era in grado di restituire, il padrone ordinò che fosse venduto lui con la moglie, i figli e quanto possedeva, e così saldasse il debito.	25 he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wifeand children and al his possessions, to meet the debt.
26 Allora il servo, prostrato a terra, lo supplicava dicendo: “Abbi pazienza con me e ti restituirò ogni cosa”.	26 At this, the servant threw himself down at his master's feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and Iwil pay the whole sum."
27 Il padrone ebbe compassione di quel servo, lo lasciò andare e gli condonò il debito.	27 And the servant's master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancel ed the debt.
28 Appena uscito, quel servo trovò uno dei suoi compagni, che gli doveva cento denari. Lo prese per il collo e lo soffocava, dicendo: “Restituisci quello che devi!”.	28 Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fel ow-servant who owed him one hundreddenari ; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me."
29 Il suo compagno, prostrato a terra, lo pregava dicendo: “Abbi pazienza con me e ti restituirò”.	29 His fel ow-servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I wil pay you."
30 Ma egli non volle, andò e lo fece gettare in prigione, fino a che non avesse pagato il debito.	30 But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison til he should pay thedebt.
31 Visto quello che accadeva, i suoi compagni furono molto dispiaciuti e andarono a riferire al loro padrone tutto l’accaduto.	31 His fel ow-servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went totheir master and reported the whole affair to him.
32 Allora il padrone fece chiamare quell’uomo e gli disse: “Servo malvagio, io ti ho condonato tutto quel debito perché tu mi hai pregato.	32 Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt ofyours when you appealed to me.
33 Non dovevi anche tu aver pietà del tuo compagno, così come io ho avuto pietà di te?”.	33 Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?"
34 Sdegnato, il padrone lo diede in mano agli aguzzini, finché non avesse restituito tutto il dovuto.	34 And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers til he should pay al his debt.
35 Così anche il Padre mio celeste farà con voi se non perdonerete di cuore, ciascuno al proprio fratello».	35 And that is how my heavenly Father wil deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from yourheart.'
