Vangelo secondo Matteo 11

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando Gesù ebbe terminato di dare queste istruzioni ai suoi dodici discepoli, partì di là per insegnare e predicare nelle loro città.	1 When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples he moved on from there to teach and preachin their towns.
2 Giovanni, che era in carcere, avendo sentito parlare delle opere del Cristo, per mezzo dei suoi discepoli mandò	2 Now John had heard in prison what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him,
3 a dirgli: «Sei tu colui che deve venire o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?».	3 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to expect someone else?'
4 Gesù rispose loro: «Andate e riferite a Giovanni ciò che udite e vedete:	4 Jesus answered, 'Go back and tel John what you hear and see;
5 i ciechi riacquistano la vista, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono purificati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, ai poveri è annunciato il Vangelo.	5 the blind see again, and the lame walk, those suffering from virulent skin-diseases are cleansed, andthe deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor;
6 E beato è colui che non trova in me motivo di scandalo!».	6 and blessed is anyone who does not find me a cause of falling.'
7 Mentre quelli se ne andavano, Gesù si mise a parlare di Giovanni alle folle: «Che cosa siete andati a vedere nel deserto? Una canna sbattuta dal vento?	7 As the men were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John, 'What did you go out into thedesert to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No?
8 Allora, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un uomo vestito con abiti di lusso? Ecco, quelli che vestono abiti di lusso stanno nei palazzi dei re!	8 Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Look, those who wear fine clothes areto be found in palaces.
9 Ebbene, che cosa siete andati a vedere? Un profeta? Sì, io vi dico, anzi, più che un profeta.	9 Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet:
10 Egli è colui del quale sta scritto: Ecco, dinanzi a te io mando il mio messaggero, davanti a te egli preparerà la tua via.	10 he is the one of whom scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you toprepare your way before you.
11 In verità io vi dico: fra i nati da donna non è sorto alcuno più grande di Giovanni il Battista; ma il più piccolo nel regno dei cieli è più grande di lui.	11 'In truth I tel you, of al the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12 Dai giorni di Giovanni il Battista fino ad ora, il regno dei cieli subisce violenza e i violenti se ne impadroniscono.	12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of Heaven has been subjected toviolence and the violent are taking it by storm.
13 Tutti i Profeti e la Legge infatti hanno profetato fino a Giovanni.	13 Because it was towards John that al the prophecies of the prophets and of the Law were leading;
14 E, se volete comprendere, è lui quell’Elia che deve venire.	14 and he, if you wil believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.
15 Chi ha orecchi, ascolti!	15 Anyone who has ears should listen!
16 A chi posso paragonare questa generazione? È simile a bambini che stanno seduti in piazza e, rivolti ai compagni, gridano:	16 'What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit inthe market place:
17 “Vi abbiamo suonato il flauto e non avete ballato, abbiamo cantato un lamento e non vi siete battuti il petto!”.	17 We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't bemourners.
18 È venuto Giovanni, che non mangia e non beve, e dicono: “È indemoniato”.	18 'For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, "He is possessed."
19 È venuto il Figlio dell’uomo, che mangia e beve, e dicono: “Ecco, è un mangione e un beone, un amico di pubblicani e di peccatori”. Ma la sapienza è stata riconosciuta giusta per le opere che essa compie».	19 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend oftax col ectors and sinners." Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.'
20 Allora si mise a rimproverare le città nelle quali era avvenuta la maggior parte dei suoi prodigi, perché non si erano convertite:	20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because theyrefused to repent.
21 «Guai a te, Corazìn! Guai a te, Betsàida! Perché, se a Tiro e a Sidone fossero avvenuti i prodigi che ci sono stati in mezzo a voi, già da tempo esse, vestite di sacco e cosparse di cenere, si sarebbero convertite.	21 'Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done inTyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Ebbene, io vi dico: nel giorno del giudizio, Tiro e Sidone saranno trattate meno duramente di voi.	22 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on Judgement Day than for you.
23 E tu, Cafàrnao, sarai forse innalzata fino al cielo? Fino agli inferi precipiterai! Perché, se a Sòdoma fossero avvenuti i prodigi che ci sono stati in mezzo a te, oggi essa esisterebbe ancora!	23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be raised as high as heaven? You shal be flung down tohell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.
24 Ebbene, io vi dico: nel giorno del giudizio, la terra di Sòdoma sarà trattata meno duramente di te!».	24 Stil , I tel you that it wil be more bearable for Sodom on Judgement Day than for you.'
25 In quel tempo Gesù disse: «Ti rendo lode, Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, perché hai nascosto queste cose ai sapienti e ai dotti e le hai rivelate ai piccoli.	25 At that time Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding thesethings from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children.
26 Sì, o Padre, perché così hai deciso nella tua benevolenza.	26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.
27 Tutto è stato dato a me dal Padre mio; nessuno conosce il Figlio se non il Padre, e nessuno conosce il Padre se non il Figlio e colui al quale il Figlio vorrà rivelarlo.	27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father,just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 Venite a me, voi tutti che siete stanchi e oppressi, e io vi darò ristoro.	28 'Come to me, al you who labour and are overburdened, and I wil give you rest.
29 Prendete il mio giogo sopra di voi e imparate da me, che sono mite e umile di cuore, e troverete ristoro per la vostra vita.	29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you wil find rest foryour souls.
30 Il mio giogo infatti è dolce e il mio peso leggero».	30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'
