1 Apri, Libano, le tue porte, e il fuoco divori i tuoi cedri.	1 Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars!
2 Urla, cipresso, perché il cedro è caduto, gli splendidi alberi sono distrutti. Urlate, querce di Basan, perché la foresta impenetrabile è abbattuta!	2 Wail, you cypress trees, for the cedars are fallen, the mighty have been despoiled. Wail, you oaks of Bashan, for the impenetrable forest is cut down!
3 Si ode il lamento dei pastori, perché la loro gloria è distrutta! Si ode il ruggito dei leoncelli, perché è devastata la magnificenza del Giordano!	3 Hark! the wailing of the shepherds, their glory has been ruined. Hark! the roaring of the young lions, the jungle of the Jordan is laid waste.
4 Così parla il Signore, mio Dio: «Pascola quelle pecore da macello	4 Thus said the LORD, my God: Shepherd the flock to be slaughtered.
5 che i compratori sgozzano impunemente e di cui i venditori dicono: “Sia benedetto il Signore, mi sono arricchito”, e i loro pastori non ne hanno pietà.	5 For they who buy them slay them with impunity; while those who sell them say, "Blessed be the LORD, I have become rich!" Even their own shepherds do not feel for them.
6 Neppure io perdonerò agli abitanti del paese. Oracolo del Signore. Ecco, io abbandonerò gli uomini ognuno in balìa del suo vicino e del suo re, perché devastino il paese, e non mi curerò di liberarli dalle loro mani».	6 (Nor shall I spare the inhabitants of the earth any more, says the LORD. Yes, I will deliver each of them into the power of his neighbor, or into the power of his king; they shall crush the earth, and I will not deliver it out of their power.)
7 Io dunque mi misi a pascolare le pecore da macello per conto dei mercanti di pecore. Presi due bastoni: uno lo chiamai Benevolenza e l’altro Unione, e condussi al pascolo le pecore.	7 So I became the shepherd of the flock to be slaughtered for the sheep merchants. I took two staffs, one of which I called "Favor," and the other, "Bonds," and I fed the flock.
8 Nel volgere di un solo mese eliminai tre pastori. Ma io mi irritai contro di esse, perché anch’esse mi detestavano.	8 In a single month I did away with the three shepherds. I wearied of them, and they behaved badly toward me.
9 Perciò io dissi: «Non sarò più il vostro pastore. Chi vuole morire muoia, chi vuole perire perisca, quelle che rimangono si divorino pure fra loro!».	9 "I will not feed you," I said. "What is to die, let it die; what is to perish, let it perish, and let those that are left devour one another's flesh."
10 Presi il bastone chiamato Benevolenza e lo spezzai: ruppi così l’alleanza da me stabilita con tutti i popoli.	10 Then I took my staff "Favor" and snapped it asunder, breaking off the covenant which I had made with all peoples;
11 Lo ruppi in quel medesimo giorno; i mercanti di pecore che mi osservavano, riconobbero che quello era l’ordine del Signore.	11 that day it was broken off. The sheep merchants who were watching me understood that this was the word of the LORD.
12 Poi dissi loro: «Se vi pare giusto, datemi la mia paga; se no, lasciate stare». Essi allora pesarono trenta sicli d’argento come mia paga.	12 I said to them, "If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, let it go." And they counted out my wages, thirty pieces of silver.
13 Ma il Signore mi disse: «Porta al fonditore questa grandiosa somma, con cui sono stato da loro valutato!». Io presi i trenta sicli d’argento e li portai al fonditore della casa del Signore.	13 But the LORD said to me, "Throw it in the treasury, the handsome price at which they valued me." So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the treasury in the house of the LORD.
14 Poi feci a pezzi il secondo bastone chiamato Unione, per rompere così la fratellanza fra Giuda e Israele.	14 Then I snapped asunder my other staff, "Bonds," breaking off the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
15 Quindi il Signore mi disse: «Prendi ancora gli attrezzi di un pastore insensato,	15 The LORD said to me: This time take the gear of a foolish shepherd.
16 poiché ecco, io susciterò nel paese un pastore che non avrà cura di quelle che si perdono, non cercherà le giovani, non curerà le malate, non nutrirà quelle ancora sane; mangerà invece le carni delle più grasse e strapperà loro persino le unghie.	16 For I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will take no note of those that perish, nor seek the strays, nor heal the injured, nor feed what survives--he will eat the flesh of the fat ones and tear off their hoofs!
17 Guai al pastore stolto che abbandona il gregge! Una spada colpisca il suo braccio e il suo occhio destro. Tutto il suo braccio si inaridisca e tutto il suo occhio destro resti accecato».	17 Woe to my foolish shepherd who forsakes the flock! May the sword fall upon his arm and upon his right eye; Let his arm wither away entirely, and his right eye be blind forever!
