| 1 Passarono tre anni tranquilli, senza guerra tra Aram e Israele. | 1 And there passed three years without war between Syria and Israel. |
| 2 Il terzo anno, Joshafat, re di Giuda, venne dal re di Israele. | 2 And in the third year, Josaphat king of Juda came down to the king of Israel. |
| 3 Così parlò il re di Israele ai suoi servitori: « Non sapete che Ramot di Galaad è nostra? E noi ce ne stiamo inattivi, senza strapparla dalle mani del re di Aram! ». | 3 (And the king of Israel said to his servants: Know ye not-that Ramoth Galaad is ours, and we neglect to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?) |
| 4 Disse poi a Joshafat: « Vuoi venire con me a combattere per Ramot di Galaad? ». Joshafat rispose al re di Israele: « Io sono come te, il mio popolo come il tuo, i miei cavalli come i tuoi». | 4 And he said to Josaphat: Wilt thou come with me to battle to Ramoth Galaad ? |
| 5 Però Joshafat disse al re di Israele: « Consulta oggi stesso Jahve ». | 5 And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: As I am, so art thou: my people and thy people are one: and my horsemen, thy horsemen. And Josaphat said to the king of Israel: Inquire, I beseech thee, this day, the word of the Lord. |
| 6 Allora il re di Israele radunò circa quattrocento profeti e disse loro: « Devo andare a combattere a Ramot di Galaad o devo astenermene? ». Quelli risposero: « Sali pure, Jahve infatti la metterà in potere del re! ». | 6 Then the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them: Shall I go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall I forbear? They answered: Go up, and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king. |
| 7 Ma Joshafat replicò: «Non c’è qui anche un altro profeta di Jahve, perchè possiamo consultarlo per mezzo suo?» | 7 And Josaphat said: Is there not here some prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire by him? |
| 8 Il re di Israele rispose a Joshafat: « C’è ancora un uomo per mezzo del quale consultare Jahve: Michea; io però lo odio, perchè non mi profetizza mai nulla di buono, ma solo del male. Costui è Michea figlio di Jimla! ». Joshafat replicò: «Il re non dica così! ». | 8 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man left, by whom we may inquire of the Lord: Micheas the son of Jemla; but I hate him, for he doth not prophesy good to me, but evil. And Josaphat said: Speak not so, O king. |
| 9 Allora il re di Israele chiamò un eunuco e gli ordinò: « Chiamami subito Michea figlio di Jimla ». | 9 Then the king of Israel called an eunuch, and said to him: Make haste, and bring hither Micheas the son of Jemla. |
| 10 Il re di Israele e Joshafat, re di Giuda, rivestiti dei loro abiti, sedevano sul loro trono sull’aia, alla soglia della porta di Samaria, e quei profeti in massa se ne stavano profetando innanzi a loro. | 10 Then the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda, sat each on his throne clothed with royal robes, in a court by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets prophesied before them. |
| 11 Sedecia, figlio di Chenaana, si. era fatto ‘corni di ‘ferro e: andava’ dicendo:” « Così dice Jahve: ‘“ Con questi tu cozzerai contro Aram finchè non lo avrai sterminato ” ». | 11 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana made himself horns of iron, and said: Thus saith the Lord: With these shalt thou push Syria, till thou destroy it. |
| 12 Ugualmente, tutti i profeti profetavano dicendo: « Sali pure a Ramot di Galaad, perchè sarai vittorioso e Jahve la metterà in potere del re!». | 12 And all the prophets prophesied in like manner, saying: Go up to Ramoth Galaad, and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hands. |
| 13 Il messaggero dunque, che era andato in cerca di Michea, gli disse: « Senti: le parole dei profeti ad una voce sono favorevoli al re; anche a tua parola sia come una delle loro e annuncia del bene ». | 13 And the messenger, that went to call Micheas, spoke to him, saying: Behold the words of the prophets with one month declare good things to the king: let thy word therefore be like to theirs, and speak that which is good. |
| 14 Michea però rispose: « Per la vita di Jahve, io proferirò solo ciò che Jahve mi suggerirà ». | 14 But Micheas said to him: As the Lord liveth, whatsoever the Lord shall say to me, that will I speak. |
| 15 Quindi si portò dal re e il re gli chiese: « Michea, dobbiamo andare a combattere contro Ramot di Galaad oppure desistere dall’impresa? ». Gli rispose: « Sali pure, perchè sarai vittorioso e Jahve la metterà in potere del re». | 15 So he came to the king, and the king said to him: Micheas, shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to battle, or shall we forbear? He answered him: Go up, and prosper, and the Lord shall deliver it into the king's hands. |
| 16 Ma il re gli replicò: « Quante volte devo scongiurarti di non dirmi che la pura verità nel nome di Jahve? ». | 16 But the king said to him: I adjure thee again and again, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord. |
| 17 Quegli disse: «Ho visto tutto Israele disperso sui monti, come un gregge di pecore senza pastore. E Jahve dice: ‘“ Essi non hanno padrone: ciascuno ritorni tranquillo a casa!” ». | 17 And he said: I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, like sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said: These have no master: let every man of them return to his house in peace. |
| 18 Allora il re di Israele fece osservare a Joshafat: «Non ti avevo detto che costui non mi avrebbe predetto del bene, ma solo del male? ». | 18 (Then the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee, that he prophesieth no good to me, but always evil ?) |
| 19 Il profeta però soggiunse: «Non è vero! Ascolta la parola di Jahve: ho visto Jahve seduto sul trono, mentre tutto l’esercito del cielo stava in piedi vicino a lui, a destra e a sinistra. | 19 And he added and said: Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left: |
| 20 Jahve parlò: ‘“ Chi vuole seguire Akhab perchè salga e cada a Ramot di Galaad?”. L’uno rispondeva in un modo; l’altro in un altro. | 20 And the Lord said: Who shall deceive Achab king of Israel, that he may go up, and fall at Ramoth Galaad? And one spoke words of this manner, and another otherwise. |
| 21 Finalmente uscì lo spirito, il quale, in piedi al cospetto di Jahve, disse: “ Lo voglio sedurre! ”. Jahve gli domandò: ‘“ Come farai? ”. | 21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said: I will deceive him. And the Lord said to him: By what means? |
| 22 Quegli rispose: “ Uscirò per diventare uno spirito menzognero in bocca dei suoi profeti”. Jahve gli confermò: “ Tu lo sedurrai; ne sei anche capace. Esci e agisci in tal modo! ”. | 22 And he said: I will go forth, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said: Thou shalt deceive him, and shalt prevail: a go forth, and do so. |
| 23 Ora dunque Jahve ha posto uno spirito menzognero sulla bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti, poichè Jahve ha deciso una sciagura a tuo riguardo! ». | 23 Now therefore behold the Lord hath given a lying spirit in the mouth of all thy prophets that are here, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee. |
| 24 Allora Sedecia, figlio di Chenaana, si avvicinò e colpì Michea sulla guancia dicendo: «Come mai lo spirito: di Jahve si è allontanato da me per venire a parlare con te? ». | 24 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana came, and struck Micheas on the cheek, and said: Hath then the spirit of the Lord left me, and spoken to thee? |
| 25 Michea rispose: « Ecco, tu stesso lo esperimenterai in quel giorno, quando passerai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti! ». | 25 And Micheas said: Thou shalt see in the day when thou shalt go into a chamber within a chamber to hide thyself. |
| 26 Il re di Israele ordinò: « Prendimi Michea e conducilo da Amon, capo della città, e da Joash, figlio del re, | 26 And the king of Israel said: Take Micheas, and let him abide with Ammon the governor of the city, and with Joas the son of Amalech. |
| 27 e riferirai: “ Così dice il re: Mettete costui in prigione e limitategli quanto più è possibile il pane e l’acqua fino al mio felice ritorno ” ». | 27 And tell them: Thus saith the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction, and water of distress, till I return in peace. |
| 28 Michea però soggiunse: «Se tu veramente ritornerai sano e salvo, Jahve non ha parlato per mezzo mio! ». | 28 And Micheas said: If thou return in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said: Hear, all ye people. |
| 29 Il re di Israele e Joshafat re di Giuda salirono dunque contro Ramot di Galaad. | 29 So the king of Israel, and Josaphat king of Juda went up to Ramoth Galaad. |
| 30 Qui il re di Israele disse a Joshafat: «Io mi travestirò ed entrerò in battaglia, ma tu rimani pure vestito dei tuoi abiti ». Il re di Israele si travestì ed entrò in battaglia. | 30 And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Take armour, and go into the battle, and put on thy own garments. But the king of Israel changed his dress, and went into the battle. |
| 31 Ora il re di Aram aveva dato quest’ordine ai capi dei suoi carri, in numero di trentadue: «Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma solo contro il re di Israele ». | 31 And the king of Syria had commanded the two and thirty captains of the chariots, saying: You shall not fight against any, small or great, but against the king of Israel only. |
| 32 Perciò, appena i capi dei carri videro Joshafat, esclamarono: « Certamente quegli è il re di Israele! ». Uscirono dalla mischia per investirlo, ma Joshafat gettò un grido. | 32 So when the captains of the chariots saw Josaphat, they suspected that he was the king of Israel, and making a violent assault they fought against him: and Josaphat cried out. |
| 33 I capi dei carri si accorsero che quegli non era il re di Israele e desistettero dall’inseguirlo. | 33 And the captains of the chariots perceived that he was not the king of and they turned away from him. |
| 34 Ma un uomo scoccò a caso una freccia dall’arco e colpì il re di Israele tra le maglie dell’armatura e la corazza. Allora questi ordinò al suo cocchiere: « Gira con la mano e portami fuori della mischia, perchè sto male ». | 34 And a certain man bent his bow, shooting at a venture, and chanced to strike the king of Israel between the lungs and the stomach. But he said to the driver of his chariot: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the army, for I am grievously wounded. |
| 35 La battaglia infuriò tutto quel giorno e il re se ne stette in piedi sul carro di fronte ad Aram e morì verso sera. Il sangue della ferita era colato nella cavità del carro. | 35 And the battle was fought that day, and the king of Israel stood in his chariot against the Syrians, and he died in the evening: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot. |
| 36 Al tramonto del sole, un grido corse nell’accampamento: « Ognuno alla sua città e ognuno al suo paese | 36 And the herald proclaimed through all the army before the sun set, saying: Let every man return to his own city, and to his own country. |
| 37 perchè il re è morto! ». Tornarono a Samaria e vi seppellirono il re. | 37 And the king died, b and was carried into Samaria: and they buried the king in Samaria. |
| 38 il carro fu risciacquato nella piscina di Samaria, dove si lavavano le prostitute, e i cani ne lambirono il sangue, secondo la parola che Jahve aveva pronunciato. | 38 And they washed his chariot in the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and they washed the reins, according to the word of the Lord which he had spoken. |
| 39 Il resto degli atti di Akhab, tutto ciò che ha fatto, la casa d’avorio che ha costruito, le città che ha edificato forse non sono cose scritte nel libro degli Annali 'dei re di Israele? | 39 But the rest of the acts of Achab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel? |
| 40 Akhab si addormentò con i suoi padri e Okhozia suo figlio regnò al suò posto. | 40 So Achab slept with his fathers, and Ochozias his son reigned in his stead. |
| 41 Joshafat, figlio di Asa, cominciò a regnare su Giuda il quarto anno di Akhab, re di Israele. | 41 But Josaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Juda in the fourth year of Achab king of Israel. |
| 42 Joshafat aveva tre anni quando divenne re e regnò venticinque anni, a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si; chiamava Azuba, figlia di Shilkhi. | 42 He was five and thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned five and twenty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Azuba the daughter of Salai. |
| 43 Egli seguì completamente la via di Asa suo padre e non se ne allontanò, compiendo ciò che è retto agli occhi di Jahve. | 43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father, and he declined not from it: and he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. |
| 44 Le alture però non scomparvero; il popolo offriva ancora sacrifici e bruciava profumi sulle alture. | 44 Nevertheless he took not away the high places: for as Set the people offered sacrifices and burnt incense in the high places. |
| 45 Joshafat visse in pace con il re di Israele. | 45 And Josaphat had peace with the king of Israel. |
| 46 Il resto degli atti di Joshafat, il valore che ha dimostrato e con cui ha combattuto, forse non sono cose scritte nel libro degli Annali dei re di Giuda? | 46 But the rest of the acts of Josaphat, and his works which he did, and his batties, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? |
| 47 Egli liberò anche il paese dal resto dei prostituti sacri che erano rimasti durante la vita di Asa suo padre. | 47 And the remnant also of the effeminate, who remained in the days of Asa his father, he took out of the land. |
| 48 Poichè non c’era alcun re in Edom, un prefetto del re | 48 And there was then no king appointed in Edom. |
| 49 costruì navi di Tarsis per andare a Ofir in cerca di oro. Egli però non potè salpare, perchè le navi furono infrante a Ezion-Gheber. | 49 But king Josaphat made navies on the sea, to sail into Ophir for gold: but they could not go, for the ships were broken in Asiongaber. |
| 50 Allora Okhozia, figlio di Akhab, disse a Joshafat: « Permetti che i miei marinai vadano con i tuoi marinai sulle navi ». Egli non acconsentì, | 50 Then Ochozias the ton of Achab said to Josaphat: Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. And Josaphat would not. |
| 51 Joshafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di David suo padre insieme con fio. Suo figlio Joram regnò al suo posto, | 51 And Josaphat slept with his fathers. and was buried with them in the city of David his father: and Joram his son reigned in his stead. |
| 52 Okhozia, figlio di Akhab, divenne re di Israele a Samaria l’anno decimosettimo di Joshafat re di Giuda. Regnò su Israele due anni, | 52 And Ochozias the son of Achab began to reign over Israel in Samaria, in the seventeenth gear of Josaphat king of Juda, and he reigned over Israel two years, |
| 53 Fece il male agli occhi di Jahve, seguendo ja via di suo padre, di sua madre e di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, che fece peccare Israele. | 53 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father and his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin. |
| 54 Servì Baal, si prostrò innanzi a lui e irritò Jahve, Dio di Israele, come aveva fatto suo padre. | 54 He served also Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked the Lord the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done. |
