1 « Or io, fin dall'anno primo di Dario il Modo, mi tenni presso di lui a sostenerlo e fortificarlo.	1 standing as a reinforcement and a bulwark for me.
2 Ed ora ti annunzierò la verità. Ecco vi saranno ancora tre re nella Persia, e il quarto sorpasserà tutti gli altri per le più grandi ricchezze, e quando sarà potente per le sue ricchezze, inciterà tutti contro il regno della Grecia.	2 Now I shall tell you the truth. "Three kings of Persia are yet to come; and a fourth shall acquire the greatest riches of all. Strengthened by his riches, he shall rouse all the kingdom of Greece.
3 Ma sorgerà un re forte che dominerà con grande potenza e farà quello che gli piacerà.	3 But a powerful king shall appear and rule with great might, doing as he pleases.
4 Ed esaltato che sia, il suo regno sarà infranto, e sarà diviso ai quattro venti del cielo, ma non ai suoi discendenti, e senza la potenza colla quale egli aveva dominato, perchè il suo regno sarà smembrato in mano di stranieri, eccettuati questi.	4 No sooner shall he appear than his kingdom shall be broken and divided in four directions under heaven; but not among his descendants or in keeping with his mighty rule, for his kingdom shall be torn to pieces and belong to others than they.
5 E il re del Mezzodì diverrà potente; ma uno dei suoi principi diverrà più forte di lui e dominerà con potenza, chè grande sarà il suo dominio.	5 "The king of the south shall grow strong, but one of his princes shall grow stronger still and govern a domain greater than his.
6 E passati varii anni faranno alleanza, e la figlia del re del Mezzodì andrà al re del Settentrione, per stabilire l'amicizia; ma non otterrà la fortezza del braccio, e non sarà stabile la sua stirpe, ed essa sarà messa a morte con la gioventù che l'aveva condotta e che l'aveva confortata in quei tempi.	6 After some years they shall become allies: the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north in the interest of peace. But her bid for power shall fail: and her line shall not be recognized, and she shall be given up, together with those who brought her, her son and her husband. But later
7 Ma un germe delle sue radici sorgerà, e verrà con un esercito ed entrerà negli stati del re del Settentrione, e li maltratterà e ne diverrà padrone.	7 a descendant of her line shall succeed to his rank, and shall come against the rampart and enter the stronghold of the king of the north, and conquer them.
8 E condurrà prigioni in Egitto i loro dèi, le statue, i vasi preziosi d'argento e d'oro: egli trionferà contro il re del Settentrione.	8 Even their gods, with their molten images and their precious vessels of silver and gold, he shall carry away as booty into Egypt. For years he shall have nothing to do with the king of the north.
9 Ed enfierà nel regno il re del Mezzodì, e tornerà alla sua terra.	9 Then the latter shall invade the land of the king of the south, and return to his own country.
10 Ma i suoi figli, irritati, raduneranno moltitudini di numerosi eserciti, e uno verrà velocemente, inonderà, e ritornerà e s'animerà e combatterà contro le forze di lui.	10 "But his sons shall prepare and assemble a great armed host, which shall advance like a flood, then withdraw. When it returns and surges around the stronghold,
11 E il re del Mezzodì, provocato, uscirà in campo, e combatterà contro il re del Settentrione, e metterà in ordine grandi eserciti, e una moltitudine sarà data nelle sue mani.	11 the king of the south, provoked, shall go out to fight against the king of the north, whose great host shall make a stand but shall be given into his hand
12 E farà moltitudine di prigionieri e s'insuperbirà il suo cuore, e farà cadere molte migliaia, ma non trionferà.	12 and be carried off. In the pride of his heart, he shall lay low tens of thousands, but he shall not triumph.
13 Perchè il re del Settentrione radunerà di nuovo eserciti molto maggiori di quelli di prima, e dopo vari anni si metterà in veloce marcia con grande esercito e immense ricchezze.	13 For the king of the north shall raise another army, greater than before; after some years he shall attack with this large army and great resources.
14 E in quel tempo molti sorgeranno contro il re del Mezzodì, ed anche i figli dei prevaricatori del tuo popolo insorgeranno per adempire la visione, e cadranno.	14 In those times many shall resist the king of the south, and outlaws of your people shall rise up in fulfillment of vision, but they shall fail.
15 E verrà il re del Settentrione, e innalzerà dei bastioni, e prenderà le città più fortificate, e le forze del Mezzodì non potranno resistere; le sue truppe scelte sorgeranno per resistere, ma saran senza forza.	15 When the king of the north comes, he shall set up siegeworks and take the fortified city by storm. The power of the south shall not withstand him, and not even his picked troops shall have the strength to resist.
16 E venendo sopra di lui farà quello che gli parrà, e nessuno gli potrà stare contro, ed egli starà nella terra illustre, che andrà in rovina nelle sue mani.	16 He shall attack him and do as he pleases, with no one to withstand him. He shall stop in the glorious land, dealing destruction.
17 E si proporrà di farsi avanti per occupare tutto il regno di lui, e farà dei patti giusti con lui, e gli darà la figlia delle (sue) donne per rovinarlo, ma non riuscirà ed (essa) non sarà per lui.	17 He shall set himself to penetrate the entire strength of his kingdom. He shall conclude an agreement with him and give him a daughter in marriage in order to destroy the kingdom, but this shall not succeed in his favor.
18 Poi si rivolgerà contro le isole e ne prenderà molte; ma un principe da lui disprezzato lo farà arrestare, e il suo obbrobrio ricadrà sopra di lui.	18 He shall turn to the coastland and take many, but a leader shall put an end to his shameful conduct, so that he cannot renew it against him.
19 E tornerà nella terra del suo impero e inciamperà e cadrà e scomparirà.	19 He shall turn to the strongholds of his own land, but shall stumble and fall, to be found no more.
20 E succederà a lui un uomo vilissimo, indegno della maestà reale, e in pochi giorni sarà infranto, non dal furore, nè in battaglia.	20 In his stead one shall arise who will send a tax collector through the glorious kingdom, but he shall soon be destroyed, though not in conflict or in battle.
21 E gli succederà uno disprezzato, a cui non sarà dato l'onore di re, e verrà di nascosto, e con frode s'impadronirà del regno.	21 "There shall rise in his place a despicable person, to whom the royal insignia shall not be given. By stealth and fraud he shall seize the kingdom.
22 Ma le forze di chi combatterà DAN(contro di lui) saran vinte e infrante davanti a lui, ed anche il capo dell'alleanza.	22 Armed might shall be completely overwhelmed by him and crushed, and even the prince of the covenant.
23 E dopo aver fatta amicizia con lui agirà con frode, si metterà in marcia, vincerà con poca gente.	23 After allying with him, he shall treacherously rise to power with a small party.
24 Ed entrerà nelle città più popolose e ricche, e farà quel che non fecero i suoi padri, nè i padri dei suoi padri: rapine, saccheggi, e dissiperà le loro ricchezze, e formerà dei disegni contro le foltezze, e ciò fino a un dato tempo.	24 By stealth he shall enter prosperous provinces and do that which his fathers or grandfathers never did; he shall distribute spoil, booty, and riches among them and devise plots against their strongholds; but only for a time.
25 E la sua forza e il suo coraggio lo inciterà ad andare con grande esercito contro il re del Mezzodì; e il re del Mezzodì sarà eccitato alla guerra dai molti e fortissimi aiuti; ma non gli varranno, perchè si macchineranno contro di lui delle insidie;	25 He shall call on his strength and cleverness to meet the king of the south with a great army; the king of the south shall prepare for battle with a very large and strong army, but he shall not succeed because of the plots devised against him.
26 I suoi commensali lo manderanno in rovina, il suo esercito sarà oppresso, e moltissimi cadranno uccisi.	26 Even his table companions shall seek to destroy him, his army shall be overwhelmed, and many shall fall slain.
27 Ed anche i due re non penseranno che a farsi del male, ad una medesima tavola si diranno menzogne, ma non riusciranno, perchè la fine è differita ad altro tempo.	27 The two kings, resolved on evil, shall sit at table together and exchange lies, but they shall have no success, because the appointed end is not yet.
28 Ed egli tornerà nella sua terra con molte ricchezze, e avrà disegni contro il testamento santo, e li eseguirà, e tornerà nella sua terra.	28 "He shall turn back toward his land with great riches, his mind set against the holy covenant; he shall arrange matters and return to his land.
29 Nel tempo stabilito tornerà di nuovo contro il Mezzodì, ma quest'ultima volta non avverrà come la prima;	29 At the time appointed he shall come again to the south, but this time it shall not be as before.
30 che verranno addosso a lui le triremi e i Romani, e sarà colpito, e tornerà indietro, e, pieno d'ira contro il testamento del santuario, la sfogherà, e formerà dei disegni contro coloro che abbandonarono il testamento del santuario.	30 When ships of the Kittim confront him, he shall lose heart and retreat. Then he shall direct his rage and energy against the holy covenant; those who forsake it he shall once more single out.
31 E le forze (mandate) da lui staran salde e contamineranno il santuario della fortezza, e toglieranno il sacrifizio perpetuo, e vi porranno l'abominazione della desolazione.	31 Armed forces shall move at his command and defile the sanctuary stronghold, abolishing the daily sacrifice and setting up the horrible abomination.
32 E gli empi agiranno con simulazione e frode contro il testamento; ma il popolo, che conosce il suo Dio, prevarrà ed agirà.	32 By his deceit he shall make some who were disloyal to the covenant apostatize; but those who remain loyal to their God shall take strong action.
33 Ed i sapienti del popolo illumineranno moltissimi, ma cadranno sotto la spada, nelle fiamme, nella schiavitù e nel dispogl lamento per un certo tempo.	33 The nation's wise men shall instruct the many; though for a time they will become victims of the sword, of flames, exile, and plunder.
34 E nella loro caduta saran rialzati da piccolo soccorso, e un gran numero s'unirà ad essi con frode.	34 When they fall, few people shall help them, but many shall join them out of treachery.
35 E dei sapienti cadranno, per essere provati col fuoco, resi eletti e candidi fino al tempo stabilito, che rimane ancora del tempo.	35 Of the wise men, some shall fall, so that the rest may be tested, refined, and purified, until the end time which is still appointed to come.
36 E il re farà quello che gli piacerà, e s'innalzerà e si magnificherà contro ogni dio, e parlerà con arroganza contro il Dio degli dèi, e gli riuscirà finché non sia sfogata tutta la collera, chè è eseguito ciò che è stato deciso.	36 "The king shall do as he pleases, exalting himself and making himself greater than any god; he shall utter dreadful blasphemies against the God of gods. He shall prosper only till divine wrath is ready, for what is determined must take place.
37 Egli non farà alcun conto del Dio dei suoi padri, e sarà preso dalla libidine delle donne, e non si curerà d'alcun Dio, perchè s'innalzerà contro tutte le cose.	37 He shall have no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one in whom women delight; for no god shall he have regard, because he shall make himself greater than all.
38 Ma onorerà in suo luogo il dio Maozim, questo dio ignoto ai suoi padri l'onorerà coll'oro, coll'argento, colle pietre' preziose, e con (altre) cose di pregio.	38 Instead, he shall give glory to the god of strongholds; a god unknown to his fathers he shall glorify with gold, silver, precious stones, and other treasures.
39 E farà sì di difendere Maozim con Dio straniero, e quelli che lo riconosceranno li colmerà di onori, darà loro potestà sopra molti, e distribuirà gratuitamente la terra.	39 To defend the strongholds he shall station a people of a foreign god. Whoever acknowledges him he shall provide with abundant honor; he shall make them rule over the many and distribute the land as a reward.
40 E nel tempo stabilito il re del Mezzodì gli farà guerra, e il re del Settentrione piomberà sopra di lui come tempesta con cocchi, cavalieri e grande fletta, e ne invaderà le terre, e distruggerà e passerà avanti.	40 "At the appointed time the king of the south shall come to grips with him, but the king of the north shall overwhelm him with chariots and horsemen and a great fleet, passing through the countries like a flood.
41 Ed entrerà nella terra illustre, e molte genti cadranno: queste sole si salveranno dalle sue mani: Edom, Moab, e il principio dei figli d'Ammon.	41 He shall enter the glorious land and many shall fall, except Edom, Moab, and the chief part of Ammon, which shall escape from his power.
42 E stenderà la sua mano sulle terre, e la terra d'Egitto non avrà scampo.	42 He shall extend his power over the countries, and not even the land of Egypt shall escape.
43 E s'impadronirà dei tesori d'oro e d'argento e di tutte le cose preziose dell'Egitto, e passerà anche per la Libia e per l'Etiopia.	43 He shall control the riches of gold and silver and all the treasures of Egypt; Libya and Ethiopia shall be in his train.
44 Ma verrrano a turbarlo delle notizie dall'oriente e dal settentrione, e partirà con grandi eserciti per distruggere e far grande strage.	44 When news from the east and the north terrifies him, he shall set out with great fury to slay and to doom many.
45 E pianterà la tenda della sua dimora tra i mari, sopra il monte illustre e santo, e salirà fino alla sua cima, ma nessuno gli recherà aiuto.	45 He shall pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the sea and the glorious holy mountain, but he shall come to his end with none to help him.
