Ester 13

1 Artaserse, il gran re, ai principi ed ai governatori delle centoventisette provincie, dall'india all'Etiopia, soggette al suo impero: salute.	1 “Artaxerxes, the great king from India all the way to Ethiopia, to the generals and leaders of the one hundred twenty-seven provinces that obey our command: greetings, he says.
2 Benchè io comandi a moltissime nazioni, e abbia assoggettata al mio dominio tutta la terra, non ho voluto abusare della grandezza della mia potenza, ma governare con clemenza e bontà i sudditi, affinchè menando tranquilla e senza alcun timore la loro vita, godano la pace, bramata da tutti i mortali.	2 In arrogance, many have abused the goodness of leaders and the honor that has been bestowed on them,
3 Or, cercando io dai miei consiglieri in qual modo ciò si possa ottenere, uno chiamato Aman, il primo fra tutti gli altri in saviezza e fedeltà, il secondo dopo il re,	3 and they strive, not only to oppress the king’s subjects, but, not acting according to the glory given to them, set in motion a plan to ambush those very ones who gave it.

5 Noi, avendo ciò saputo, e vedendo come una sola nazione, ribelle a tutto il genere umano, segue leggi perverse, disobbedisce ai nostri ordini, turba la concordia e la pace delle provincie a noi soggette,	5 And they rush forth in such insanity that they attempt to subvert by filthy lies those who carefully fulfill the offices delegated to them and so perform everything that is deserving of the praise of all.

17 Esaudisci la mia preghiera e sii propizio alla tua parte, alla tua porzione, e muta in allegrezza il nostro lutto, affinchè, vivendo, o Signore, celebriamo il tuo nome: non chiudere la bocca di coloro che ti lodano ».	17 Therefore, you should understand to be null and void those letters that he administered under our name.
