Lettera di Giacomo 1

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Giacomo, servo di Dio e del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù che sono nella dispersione, salute!	1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.
2 Voi, fratelli miei, dovete stimare vero gaudio le diverse prove alle quali vi troverete esposti,	2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,
3 sapendo che la vostra fede sperimentata produce la pazienza.	3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and
4 La pazienza poi rende l'opera perfetta, onde siate perfetti, completi, senza che nulla vi manchi.	4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.
5 Se poi tra voi vi è qualcuno che ha bisogno di sapienza, la chieda a Dio, che dà a tutti abbondantemente e non rimprovera; e gli sarà data.	5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.
6 Chieda però con fede, senza per nulla esitare, perchè chi esita è simile all'onda del mare, mossa e agitata dal vento.	6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.
7 Un tal uomo adunque non si pensi di ottenere cosa alcuna dal Signore.	7 That sort of person, in two minds,
8 L'uomo d'animo doppio è incostante in tutte le sue vie.	8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
9 Ma il fratello umile si glorii della sua esaltazione;	9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,
10 e il ricco [si glorii] della sua umiliazione, perchè egli passerà come fior d'erba.	10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;
11 Infatti si levò il sole cocente e fece seccare l'erba; il suo fiore cadde e la sua appariscente bellezza svanì; così anche il ricco appassirà nelle sue imprese.	11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.
12 Beato l'uomo che sopporta la prova, perchè quando sarà stato provato, riceverà la corona della vita, promessa da Dio a coloro che lo amano.	12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
13 Nessuno, quando è sottoposto alla prova, dica che è tentato da Dio; perchè Dio non è tentatore di male, e non tenta nessuno.	13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .
14 Ma ciascun di noi è tentato dalla propria concupiscenza, che lo attrae e lo alletta.	14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.
15 Indi la concupiscenza, quando ha concepito, dà alla luce il peccato; il peccato poi, commesso che sia, produce la morte.	15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.
16 Non vogliate adunque errare, fratelli miei dilettissimi.	16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:
17 Ogni ottima cosa data e ogni dono perfetto vien dal cielo e scende dal Padre de' lumi, nel quale non vi è mutamento nè ombra di variazione.	17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.
18 Egli infatti di sua volontà ci ha generati mediante la parola di verità, affinchè noi siamo, in certo qual modo, le primizie delle sue creature.	18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.
19 Voi lo sapete, fratelli miei dilettissimi. Ognuno sia pronto ad ascoltare, lento a parlare e lento all'ira,	19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;
20 perchè l'ira dell'uomo non opera ciò che è giusto dinanzi a Dio.	20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;
21 Rigettando perciò ogni immondezza e la malizia ridondante, accogliete con docilità la parola [in voi] seminata, la quale può salvare le anime nostre.	21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.
22 State quindi operatori della parola e non semplici uditori, ingannando voi stessi.	22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.
23 Perchè se uno ascolta la parola e non la mette in pratica, egli sarà simile a un uomo, che mira in uno specchio il nativo suo volto,	23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,
24 e, dopo essersi mirato, se ne va e dimentica subito quale egli fosse.	24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.
25 Invece chi si specchierà nella legge perfetta della libertà, e in essa persevererà, non come uditore smemorato, ma come operatore di fatti, questi sarà beato nel suo operare.	25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.
26 Se uno poi crede di essere religioso, e non tiene a freno la lingua, e anzi seduce il suo cuore, la sua religione è vana.	26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.
27 La religione pura e immacolata, agli occhi di Dio e del Padre, è questa: Visitare gli orfani e le vedove nelle loro tribolazioni e conservarsi puro da questo mondo.	27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.
