Prima lettera ai Corinzi 14

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Seguite dunque l'amore. E ambite i doni spirituali, specialmente quello di profezia,	1 Make love your aim; but be eager, too, for spiritual gifts, and especial y for prophesying.
2 poichè chi parla in lingua, parla non agli uomini ma a Dio; nessuno l'intende, e in ispirito dice cose misteriose.	2 Those who speak in a tongue speak to God, but not to other people, because nobody understandsthem; they are speaking in the Spirit and the meaning is hidden.
3 Chi profetizza invece parla agli uomini, a edificazione ed esortazione e consolazione.	3 On the other hand, someone who prophesies speaks to other people, building them up and givingthem encouragement and reassurance.
4 Chi parla in lingua edifica se stesso; chi profetizza edifica la chiesa.	4 Those who speak in a tongue may build themselves up, but those who prophesy build up thecommunity.
5 Vorrei bene che tutti voi parlaste le lingue ma preferisco che siate profeti: è più grande il profeta che chi parla le lingue, salvo se faccia da interprete, affinchè la Chiesa ne abbia edificazione.	5 While I should like you all to speak in tongues, I would much rather you could prophesy; since thosewho prophesy are of greater importance than those who speak in tongues, unless they can interpret what theysay so that the church is built up by it.
6 Difatti, o fratelli, se io venissi a voi parlando le lingue, in che vi gioverei se non vi parlassi o con qualche rivelazione, o con la scienza, o con la profezia, o con qualche ammaestramento?	6 Now suppose, brothers, I come to you and speak in tongues, what good shal I do you if my speakingprovides no revelation or knowledge or prophecy or instruction?
7 Le cose inanimate che dànno un suono, ad esempio un flauto o una cetra, se non dessero una differenza di suoni, come si riconoscerebbe ciò che è sonato col flauto e ciò che si suona colla cetra?	7 It is the same with an inanimate musical instrument. If it does not make any distinction between notes,how can one recognise what is being played on flute or lyre?
8 E se la tromba di guerra desse un suono incerto, chi si preparerebbe al combattimento?	8 If the trumpet sounds a cal which is unrecognisable, who is going to get ready for the attack?
9 Così anche voi se per via del linguaggio non fate un discorso chiaro, come si capirà quel che dite? voi parlerete al vento.	9 It is the same with you: if you do not use your tongue to produce speech that can be readilyunderstood, how can anyone know what you are saying? You will be talking to the air.
10 Càpitano a essere tante le specie di dialetti nel mondo, ma nessuno è senza il suo significato;	10 However many the languages used in the world, al of them use sound;
11 se quindi non conosco il valore del suono, sarò un barbaro per chi parla, e chi parla per me sarà un barbaro.	11 but if I do not understand the meaning of the sound, I am a barbarian to the person who is speaking,and the speaker is a barbarian to me.
12 Così anche voi, poichè siete amanti dei doni spirituali, cercate di averne in abbondanza per l'edificazione della Chiesa.	12 So with you, as you are eager to have spiritual powers, aim to be rich in those which build up thecommunity.
13 Perciò chi parla le lingue preghi di poter essere interprete;	13 That is why anybody who speaks in a tongue must pray that he may be given the interpretation.
14 chè se io prego in lingua, il mio spirito sì prega, ma la mia mente, riman priva di frutto.	14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit may be praying but my mind derives no fruit from it.
15 Che cos'è dunque? pregherò collo spirito, ma pregherò anche coll'intelligenza, salmeggerò collo spirito e salmeggerò anche coll'intelligenza.	15 What then? I shal pray with the spirit, but I shall pray with the mind as wel : I shall sing praises withthe spirit and I shal sing praises with the mind as well.
16 Poichè se tu benedici in ispirito, chi tiene il posto del semplice uditore, come dirà «Amen» al tuo rendimento di grazie? perchè non capisce quel che tu dica,	16 Otherwise, if you say your blessing only with the spirit, how is the uninitiated person going to answer'Amen' to your thanksgiving, without understanding what you are saying?
17 tu fai bene sì il ringraziamento, ma l'altro non riceve edificazione.	17 You may be making your thanksgiving wel , but the other person is not built up at al .
18 Ringraziando Dio, io parlo le lingue di tutti voi;	18 I thank God that I speak with tongues more than any of you;
19 ma nell'adunanza preferisco dir cinque parole secondo il mio sentimento, onde io possa anche istruire altri, anzichè migliaia di parole in lingua.	19 al the same, when I am in the assembly I would rather say five words with my mind, to instructothers as wel , than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Fratelli, non siate fanciulli di animo, ma per quel che è malizia siate bambini, e nell'animo procurate diventar perfetti.	20 Brothers, do not remain children in your thinking; infants in wickedness-agreed, but in your thinkinggrown-ups.
21 Sta scritto nella legge: «In diversità di lingue e con labbra d'altri parlerò a questo popolo, ma neanche così mi ascolteranno», dice il Signore.	21 It says in the written Law: In strange tongues and in a foreign language I wil talk to this nation, andeven so they will refuse to listen, says the Lord.
22 Di guisa che le lingue son per segno non ai credenti ma agli increduli, e la profezia non è per gl'increduli ma per quei che credono.	22 So then, strange languages are significant not for believers, but for unbelievers; whereas on theother hand, prophesying is not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Quando dunque si raduni tutta la chiesa e tutti vi parlino le lingue, se entrino dentro dei profani o degli increduli, non direbbero che diventate matti?	23 Suppose that, if the whole congregation were meeting and al of them speaking in tongues, andsome uninitiated people or unbelievers were to come in, don't you think they would say that you were all raving?
24 E se tutti profetassero, ed entrasse un incredulo o un profano, egli è convinto da tutti, vien giudicato da tutti,	24 But if you were al prophesying when an unbeliever or someone uninitiated came in, he would findhimself put to the test by al and judged by al
25 i segreti del suo cuore si fanno palesi, e così prostrandosi faccia a terra adorerà Dio, proclamando che Iddio è realmente in voi.	25 and the secrets of his heart revealed; and so he would fal down on his face and worship God,declaring that God is indeed among you.
26 Che è dunque, o fratelli? quando vi adunate, ciascuno di voi ha chi il salmo, chi l'ammaestramento, chi la rivelazione da fare, o la lingua, o l'interpretazione; ebbene ogni cosa sia a scopo di edificazione.	26 Then what should it be like, brothers? When you come together each of you brings a psalm or someinstruction or a revelation, or speaks in a tongue or gives an interpretation. Let al these things be done in a waythat wil build up the community.
27 Se c'è chi parli le lingue, parlino in due o in tre al più, ciascuno a sua volta, e uno faccia la spiegazione;	27 If there are to be any people speaking in a tongue, then let there be only two, or at the most three,and those one at a time, and let one of these interpret.
28 e se non ci sia un interprete, tacciano nell'adunanza, e parlino seco stessi e con Dio.	28 If there is no interpreter, then let each of them be quiet in the assembly, and speak only to himselfand God.
29 I profeti, parlino due o tre, e gli altri giudichino:	29 Let two prophets, or three, speak while the rest weigh their words;
30 e se è stata fatta una rivelazione a un altro che sta a sedere, il primo si taccia.	30 and if a revelation comes to someone else who is sitting by, the speaker should stop speaking.
31 Poichè potete tutti ad uno ad uno profetare, affinchè tutti imparino e tutti ricevano consolazione.	31 You can al prophesy, but one at a time, then al wil learn something and al receive encouragement.
32 Gli spiriti dei profeti son soggetti ai profeti,	32 The prophetic spirit is to be under the prophets' control,
33 poichè non è del disordine Iddio, ma della pace, conforme io insegno in tutte le adunanze dei Santi.	33 for God is a God not of disorder but of peace. As in al the churches of God's holy people,
34 Le donne nelle assemblee tacciano, poichè non è loro permesso di parlare; ma stiano sottoposte, come anche dice la legge.	34 women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: theirs is asubordinate part, as the Law itself says.
35 E se vogliono imparar qualche cosa, in casa interroghino i proprii mariti; è cosa indecorosa per una donna parlare in un'assemblea.	35 If there is anything they want to know, they should ask their husbands at home: it is shameful for awoman to speak in the assembly.
36 Forse che da voi è uscita la parola di Dio, o a voi soli è pervenuta?	36 Do you real y think that you are the source of the word of God? Or that you are the only people towhom it has come?
37 Se qualcuno si tiene per profeta o per uomo ispirato, riconosca che le cose ch'io scrivo a voi, sono precetti del Signore;	37 Anyone who claims to be a prophet, or to have any spiritual powers must recognise that what I amwriting to you is a commandment from the Lord.
38 ma se qualcuno non lo sa, resti cosa ignorata.	38 If anyone does not recognise this, it is because that person is not recognised himself.
39 Conseguentemente, o fratelli miei, cercate di profetare, però non impedite si parlino le lingue;	39 So, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not suppress the gift of speaking in tongues.
40 ma tutto si faccia decorosamente e con ordine.	40 But make sure that everything is done in a proper and orderly fashion.
