1 - Quindi il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 «Ordina a' figli di Israele che mandino via dagli accampamenti tutti i lebbrosi, chi ha perdite seminali e chi è immondo per aver toccato un morto.	2 'Order the Israelites to expel from the camp al those suffering from a contagious skin-disease or froma discharge, or who have become unclean by touching a corpse.
3 Uomo o donna che sia, mandatelo fuori dal campo, acciò non lo contamini mentre io v'abiterò con voi».	3 Whether man or woman, you will expel them; you wil expel them from the camp, so that they do notpollute their encampments, in the heart of which I dwel .'
4 Così fecero i figli d'Israele, e li mandarono via dagli accampamenti, come aveva comandato il Signore a Mosè.	4 The Israelites did so: they expel ed them from the camp. The Israelites did as Yahweh had told Moses.
5 Poi, il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:	5 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
6 «Ai figliuoli d'Israele dirai: - L'uomo o la donna che abbiano commesso uno di que' peccati ne' quali gli uomini sogliono cadere, abbiano trasgredito per negligenza un comandamento del Signore, ed abbiano mancato,	6 'Speak to the Israelites: "If a man or woman commits any of the sins by which people break faith withYahweh, that person incurs guilt.
7 confesseranno il proprio peccato e renderanno tutto il capitale con la quinta parte in più a colui contro il quale peccarono.	7 "The person must confess the sin committed and restore in ful the amount owed, with one-fifth added.Payment is to be made to the person wronged.
8 Se poi non vi sarà a chi rendere, lo daranno al Signore, e sarà del sacerdote, oltre all'ariete che si offre per espiazione ed ostia di perdono.	8 "If, however, the latter has no relation to whom restitution can be made, the restitution due to Yahwehreverts to the priest, apart from the ram of expiation with which the priest makes expiation for the guilty party.
9 Anche tutte le primizie offerte da' figliuoli d'Israele spettano al sacerdote;	9 For of everything the Israelites consecrate and bring to the priest he has a right to the portion setaside.
10 e tutto quello che da ciascuno vien offerto nel santuario e dato in mano al sacerdote, sarà del sacerdote -».	10 Whatever anyone consecrates is his own; whatever is given to the priest belongs to the priest." '
11 Parlò ancora a Mosè il Signore, dicendo:	11 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
12 «Parla ai figliuoli di Israele, e di' loro così: - Se la moglie d'uno avrà peccato, e disprezzando il marito	12 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "If anyone has a wife who goes astray and is unfaithful to him,
13 si sarà data ad un altro uomo, ed il marito non l'ha potuto sapere, che anzi l'adulterio rimane nascosto e non può provarsi con testimoni perchè essa non è stata colta in flagrante;	13 if some other man sleeps with the woman without the husband's knowledge, and she secretly makesherself unclean, without any witness against her, and without anyone catching her in the act;
14 o se lo spirito di gelosia inciterà il marito contro la moglie, che questa abbia davvero peccato, o che sia sospettata falsamente;	14 if, then, a spirit of suspicion comes over the husband and makes him suspicious of the wife who hasdisgraced herself, or again if this spirit of suspicion comes over him and makes him suspicious of his wife evenwhen she is innocent,
15 egli la condurrà al sacerdote, ed offrirà come oblazione per essa la decima parte d'una misura di farina d'orzo. Non vi verserà sopra olio ne vi imporrà incenso, perchè è sacrifizio mosso da gelosia, ed oblazione fatta per investigare un adulterio.	15 the man wil bring his wife before the priest, and on her behalf make an offering of one-tenth of anephah of barley meal. He will not pour oil over it or put incense on it, because this is a cereal offering for a caseof suspicion, a memorial offering to recal guilt to mind.
16 Il sacerdote dunque presenterà e farà stare [quella donna] dinanzi al Signore;	16 "The priest will then bring the woman forward and place her before Yahweh.
17 poi prenderà dell'acqua santa in un vaso di coccio, e vi metterà un poco di terra del suolo del tabernacolo.	17 The priest wil then take fresh water in an earthen jar, and on the water throw dust that he has takenfrom the floor of the Dwel ing.
18 Stando dunque la donna davanti al Signore, [il sacerdote] le scoprirà il capo, e le porrà nelle mani la materia del sacrifizio per investigazione e dell'offerta per gelosia; egli poi terrà quelle acque amarissime, sulle quali avrà scaricato con scongiuri le sue maledizioni.	18 After he has placed the woman before Yahweh, he will unbind her hair and put the commemorativecereal offering (that is, the cereal offering for a case of suspicion) into her hands. In his own hands the priest wilhold the water of bitterness and cursing.
19 E la scongiurerà dicendo: " Se nessun uomo estraneo è stato con te, nè ti sei macchiata abbandonando il talamo coniugale, non ti faranno alcun male queste acque amarissime sulle quali ho versato le mie maledizioni.	19 "The priest will then put the woman on oath. He will say to her: If it is not true that a man has sleptwith you, that you have gone astray and made yourself unclean while under your husband's authority, may thiswater of bitterness and cursing do you no harm.
20 Ma se ti sviasti dal tuo marito, e ti sei macchiata, e ti sei data ad un altr'uomo	20 But if it is true that you have gone astray while under your husband's authority, that you have madeyourself unclean and that a man other than your husband has slept with you . . .
21 soggiacerai a queste maledizioni: Ti faccia il Signore diventare oggetto di maledizione e d'esempio a tutti nel popolo suo; faccia marcire il tuo fianco, gonfiare e crepare il tuo ventre;	21 Here the priest wil impose an imprecatory oath on the woman. He wil say to her: . . . May Yahwehmake you the object of your people's execration and curses, by making your sexual organs shrivel and your bel yswel !
22 penetrino nelle tue viscere le acque maledette, e gonfiandoti il ventre, ti marcisca il fianco ". E la donna risponderà: "Così sia".	22 May this water of cursing entering your bowels, make your belly swell and your sexual organs shrivel!To which the woman will reply: Amen! Amen!
23 Poi il sacerdote scriverà sopra un foglietto queste maledizioni, le farà sciogliere nell'acque amarissime sulle quali adunò le sue maledizioni,	23 "Having written these curses on a scrol and washed them off in the water of bitterness,
24 e gliele darà a bere. Dopo che essa le avrà inghiottite,	24 the priest wil make the woman drink the water of bitterness and cursing; when the water of cursingenters into her, it wil become bitter.
25 il sacerdote le prenderà di mano la materia del sacrifizio di gelosia, la eleverà innanzi al Signore, e la porrà sull'altare, in maniera però che prima	25 "The priest will then take the cereal offering for a case of suspicion from the woman's hands, and holdit up before Yahweh with a gesture of offering, and so carry it up to the altar.
26 tolga dall'offerta il pugnellino pel sacrifizio e lo bruci sull'altare, poi dia in bevanda alla donna le acque amarissime.	26 He will take a handful of it as a memorial and burn it on the altar. "After this, he wil make the woman drink the water.
27 Quando le avrà bevute, se è macchiata e rea d'adulterio in disprezzo del marito, le acque maledette la pervaderanno e gonfiatole il ventre le marcirà il fianco; sarà quella donna oggetto di maledizione e d'esempio a tutto il popolo.	27 After he has made her drink it, if it is true that she has made herself unclean and been unfaithful toher husband, the water of cursing then entering into her wil indeed be bitter: her bel y wil swel and her sexualorgans shrivel, and she wil be an object of execration to her people.
28 Ma se non era colpevole, non risentirà alcun danno, e tornerà a fare dei figli».	28 But if she has not made herself unclean, but is clean, then she will go unscathed and wil bearchildren.
29 È questa la legge per gelosia, se una donna s'è sviata dal suo marito e contaminata,	29 "Such is the ritual in cases of suspicion, when a woman has gone astray and made herself uncleanwhile under her husband's authority,
30 o se il marito agitato dallo spirito di gelosia l'ha presentata al cospetto del Signore, quando il sacerdote le abbia fatto secondo tutto quello che è stato scritto,	30 or when a spirit of suspicion has come over a man and made him suspicious of his wife. When ahusband brings such a woman before Yahweh, the priest will apply this ritual to her in full.
31 il marito non avrà più colpa [del suo sospetto], ed essa [se rea] pagherà la sua iniquità.	31 The husband wil be guiltless, but the woman wil bear the consequences of her guilt." '
