1 - Ora, i capi delle famiglie di Galaad figlio di Machir figlio di Manasse, della stirpe de' figliuoli di Giuseppe, si fecero avanti, e dissero a Mosè, in presenza de' capi d'Israele:	1 Then the leaders of the families of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the stock of the sons of Joseph, approached and spoke to Moses before the leaders of Israel, and they said:
2 «Il Signore comandò a te, signor nostro, di dividere a sorte la terra tra i figli d'Israele, e di dare alle figlie di Salfaad nostro fratello la parte dovuta al padre loro.	2 “The Lord has instructed you, our ruler, so that you would divide the land by lot to the sons of Israel, and so that you would give to the daughters of Zelophehad, our brother, the possession owed to their father.
3 Ora, se uomini d'altra tribù le pigliano in mogli, esse porteran seco i loro beni, e questi, passando in altra tribù, diminuiranno l'eredità della nostra.	3 But if men of another tribe receive them as wives, their possession will follow them, and having been transferred to another tribe, there will be a reduction in our inheritance.
4 Così accadrà che al venire del giubileo, cioè dell'anno cinquantesimo e della remissione, rimarrà alterata la distribuzione delle sorti, ed il possesso degli uni passerà agli altri».	4 And so it may be that, when the Jubilee of remission, that is, the fiftieth year, has arrived, the distribution by lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall be transferred to others.”
5 Mosè rispose a' figli d'Israele, e per comando del Signore disse: «La tribù de' figli di Giuseppe ha parlato saviamente	5 Moses answered the sons of Israel, and, at the instruction of the Lord, he said: “The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken correctly.
6 ed ecco la legge data dal Signore riguardo alle figlie di Salfaad: "Si maritino a chi vogliono: soltanto però ad uomini della loro tribù,	6 And so, this is the law which has been promulgated by the Lord about the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them marry whomever they may wish, but only among the men of their own tribe,
7 affinchè i possedimenti de' figli di Israele non si mescolino da una tribù ad un'altra". Tutti gli uomini dunque prenderanno una moglie della loro tribù e casata;	7 lest the possession of the sons of Israel become commingled, from tribe to tribe. For all men shall take wives from their own tribe and kinship;
8 e tutte le donne prenderanno mariti della loro stessa tribù, acciò l'eredità rimanga nelle famiglie,	8 and all women shall take husbands from their same tribe, so that the inheritance may remain within the families,
9 e le tribù non si mescolino fra di loro, ma così restino	9 and so that the tribes may not be mingled together, but may remain such as they were separated by the Lord.”
10 come son state divise dal Signore». Fecero dunque le figlie di Salfaad come era stato loro comandato.	10 And the daughters of Zelophehad acted according to what was ordered.
11 Maala, Tersa, Hegla, Melca e Noa si sposarono a de' figli del loro zio,	11 And Mahlah, and Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noa were wed to the sons of their paternal uncle,
12 della stirpe di Manasse figlio di Giuseppe; e così, la parte ch'era stata loro assegnata rimase nella tribù e casata del padre loro.	12 from the family of Manasseh, who was a son of Joseph. And the possession which had been distributed to them remained in the tribe and family of their father.
13 Questi sono i comandamenti e le leggi che il Signore dette per mezzo di Mosè a' figli d'Israele, nelle pianure di Moab, lungo il Giordano, di contro a Gerico.	13 These are the commandments and judgments which the Lord ordered by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel, in the plains of Moab, above the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
