το λημμα ο ειδεν αμβακουμ ο προφητης1 The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
εως τινος κυριε κεκραξομαι και ου μη εισακουσης βοησομαι προς σε αδικουμενος και ου σωσεις2 How long, O Lord, shall I cry out, and you will not heed? Shall I shout to you while suffering violence, and you will not save?
ινα τι μοι εδειξας κοπους και πονους επιβλεπειν ταλαιπωριαν και ασεβειαν εξ εναντιας μου γεγονεν κρισις και ο κριτης λαμβανει3 Why have you revealed to me iniquity and hardship, to see plunder and injustice opposite me? And there has been judgment, but the opposition is more powerful.
δια τουτο διεσκεδασται νομος και ου διεξαγεται εις τελος κριμα οτι ο ασεβης καταδυναστευει τον δικαιον ενεκεν τουτου εξελευσεται το κριμα διεστραμμενον4 Because of this, the law has been torn apart, and judgment does not persevere to its conclusion. For the impious prevail against the just. Because of this, a perverse judgment is issued.
ιδετε οι καταφρονηται και επιβλεψατε και θαυμασατε θαυμασια και αφανισθητε διοτι εργον εγω εργαζομαι εν ταις ημεραις υμων ο ου μη πιστευσητε εαν τις εκδιηγηται5 Gaze among the nations, and see. Admire, and be astounded. For a work has been done in your days, which no one will believe when it is told.
διοτι ιδου εγω εξεγειρω εφ' υμας τους χαλδαιους τους μαχητας το εθνος το πικρον και το ταχινον το πορευομενον επι τα πλατη της γης του κατακληρονομησαι σκηνωματα ουκ αυτου6 For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift people, marching across the width of the earth, to possess tabernacles not their own.
φοβερος και επιφανης εστιν εξ αυτου το κριμα αυτου εσται και το λημμα αυτου εξ αυτου εξελευσεται7 It is dreadful and terrible. From themselves, judgment and their burden will issue.
και εξαλουνται υπερ παρδαλεις οι ιπποι αυτου και οξυτεροι υπερ τους λυκους της αραβιας και εξιππασονται οι ιππεις αυτου και ορμησουσιν μακροθεν και πετασθησονται ως αετος προθυμος εις το φαγειν8 Their horses are more nimble than leopards and swifter than wolves in the evening; their horsemen will spread out. And then their horsemen will approach from far away; they will fly like the eagle, hurrying to devour.
συντελεια εις ασεβεις ηξει ανθεστηκοτας προσωποις αυτων εξ εναντιας και συναξει ως αμμον αιχμαλωσιαν9 They will all approach towards the prey; their face is like a burning wind. And they will gather captives together like sand.
και αυτος εν βασιλευσιν εντρυφησει και τυραννοι παιγνια αυτου και αυτος εις παν οχυρωμα εμπαιξεται και βαλει χωμα και κρατησει αυτου10 And concerning kings, he will triumph, and sovereign rulers will be his laughingstock, and he will laugh over every fortress, and he will transport a rampart and seize it.
τοτε μεταβαλει το πνευμα και διελευσεται και εξιλασεται αυτη η ισχυς τω θεω μου11 Then his spirit will be altered, and he will cross over and fall. Such is his strength from his god.
ουχι συ απ' αρχης κυριε ο θεος ο αγιος μου και ου μη αποθανωμεν κυριε εις κριμα τεταχας αυτον και επλασεν με του ελεγχειν παιδειαν αυτου12 Have you not existed from the beginning, Lord my God, my holy one, and so we shall not die? Lord, you have stationed him for judgment, and you have establish that his strength will be swept away.
καθαρος οφθαλμος του μη οραν πονηρα και επιβλεπειν επι πονους ου δυνηση ινα τι επιβλεπεις επι καταφρονουντας παρασιωπηση εν τω καταπινειν ασεβη τον δικαιον13 Your eyes are pure, you do not behold evil, and you cannot look towards iniquity. Why do you look upon the agents of iniquity, and remain silent, while the impious is devouring one who is more just than himself?
και ποιησεις τους ανθρωπους ως τους ιχθυας της θαλασσης και ως τα ερπετα τα ουκ εχοντα ηγουμενον14 And you will make men like the fish of the sea and like the creeping things that have no ruler.
συντελειαν εν αγκιστρω ανεσπασεν και ειλκυσεν αυτον εν αμφιβληστρω και συνηγαγεν αυτον εν ταις σαγηναις αυτου ενεκεν τουτου ευφρανθησεται και χαρησεται η καρδια αυτου15 He lifted up everything with his hook. He drew them in with his dragnet, and gathered them into his netting. Over this, he will rejoice and exult.
ενεκεν τουτου θυσει τη σαγηνη αυτου και θυμιασει τω αμφιβληστρω αυτου οτι εν αυτοις ελιπανεν μεριδα αυτου και τα βρωματα αυτου εκλεκτα16 For this reason, he will offer victims to his dragnet, and he will sacrifice to his netting. For through them, his portion has been made fat, and his meals elite.
δια τουτο αμφιβαλει το αμφιβληστρον αυτου και δια παντος αποκτεννειν εθνη ου φεισεται17 Because of this, therefore, he expands his dragnet and will not be lenient in continually putting to death the peoples.
