BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Perciò, lasciando da parte il discorso iniziale su Cristo, passiamo a ciò che è completo, senza gettare di nuovo le fondamenta: la rinuncia alle opere morte e la fede in Dio,	1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,
2 la dottrina dei battesimi, l’imposizione delle mani, la risurrezione dei morti e il giudizio eterno.	2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.
3 Questo noi lo faremo, se Dio lo permette.	3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.
4 Quelli, infatti, che sono stati una volta illuminati e hanno gustato il dono celeste, sono diventati partecipi dello Spirito Santo	4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,
5 e hanno gustato la buona parola di Dio e i prodigi del mondo futuro.	5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come
6 Tuttavia, se sono caduti, è impossibile rinnovarli un’altra volta portandoli alla conversione, dal momento che, per quanto sta in loro, essi crocifiggono di nuovo il Figlio di Dio e lo espongono all’infamia.	6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.
7 Infatti, una terra imbevuta della pioggia che spesso cade su di essa, se produce erbe utili a quanti la coltivano, riceve benedizione da Dio;	7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;
8 ma se produce spine e rovi, non vale nulla ed è vicina alla maledizione: finirà bruciata!	8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.
9 Anche se a vostro riguardo, carissimi, parliamo così, abbiamo fiducia che vi siano in voi cose migliori, che portano alla salvezza.	9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.
10 Dio infatti non è ingiusto tanto da dimenticare il vostro lavoro e la carità che avete dimostrato verso il suo nome, con i servizi che avete reso e che tuttora rendete ai santi.	10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.
11 Desideriamo soltanto che ciascuno di voi dimostri il medesimo zelo perché la sua speranza abbia compimento sino alla fine,	11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,
12 perché non diventiate pigri, ma piuttosto imitatori di coloro che, con la fede e la costanza, divengono eredi delle promesse.	12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.
13 Quando infatti Dio fece la promessa ad Abramo, non potendo giurare per uno superiore a sé, giurò per se stesso	13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:
14 dicendo: Ti benedirò con ogni benedizione e renderò molto numerosa la tua discendenza.	14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.
15 Così Abramo, con la sua costanza, ottenne ciò che gli era stato promesso.	15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.
16 Gli uomini infatti giurano per qualcuno maggiore di loro, e per loro il giuramento è una garanzia che pone fine a ogni controversia.	16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.
17 Perciò Dio, volendo mostrare più chiaramente agli eredi della promessa l’irrevocabilità della sua decisione, intervenne con un giuramento,	17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath
18 affinché, grazie a due atti irrevocabili, nei quali è impossibile che Dio mentisca, noi, che abbiamo cercato rifugio in lui, abbiamo un forte incoraggiamento ad afferrarci saldamente alla speranza che ci è proposta.	18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.
19 In essa infatti abbiamo come un’àncora sicura e salda per la nostra vita: essa entra fino al di là del velo del santuario,	19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain
20 dove Gesù è entrato come precursore per noi, divenuto sommo sacerdote per sempre secondo l’ordine di Melchìsedek.	20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.
