BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non sia turbato il vostro cuore. Abbiate fede in Dio e abbiate fede anche in me.	1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.
2 Nella casa del Padre mio vi sono molte dimore. Se no, vi avrei mai detto: “Vado a prepararvi un posto”?	2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,
3 Quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un posto, verrò di nuovo e vi prenderò con me, perché dove sono io siate anche voi.	3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.
4 E del luogo dove io vado, conoscete la via».	4 You know the way to the place where I am going.
5 Gli disse Tommaso: «Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo conoscere la via?».	5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'
6 Gli disse Gesù: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.	6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
7 Se avete conosciuto me, conoscerete anche il Padre mio: fin da ora lo conoscete e lo avete veduto».	7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.
8 Gli disse Filippo: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».	8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,
9 Gli rispose Gesù: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre. Come puoi tu dire: “Mostraci il Padre”?	9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?
10 Non credi che io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso; ma il Padre, che rimane in me, compie le sue opere.	10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.
11 Credete a me: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me. Se non altro, credetelo per le opere stesse.	11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.
12 In verità, in verità io vi dico: chi crede in me, anch’egli compirà le opere che io compio e ne compirà di più grandi di queste, perché io vado al Padre.	12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.
13 E qualunque cosa chiederete nel mio nome, la farò, perché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.	13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 Se mi chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome, io la farò.	14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.
15 Se mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti;	15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.
16 e io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Paràclito perché rimanga con voi per sempre,	16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,
17 lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete perché egli rimane presso di voi e sarà in voi.	17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.
18 Non vi lascerò orfani: verrò da voi.	18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.
19 Ancora un poco e il mondo non mi vedrà più; voi invece mi vedrete, perché io vivo e voi vivrete.	19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.
20 In quel giorno voi saprete che io sono nel Padre mio e voi in me e io in voi.	20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.
21 Chi accoglie i miei comandamenti e li osserva, questi è colui che mi ama. Chi ama me sarà amato dal Padre mio e anch’io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».	21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'
22 Gli disse Giuda, non l’Iscariota: «Signore, come è accaduto che devi manifestarti a noi, e non al mondo?».	22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'
23 Gli rispose Gesù: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola e il Padre mio lo amerà e noi verremo a lui e prenderemo dimora presso di lui.	23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.
24 Chi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi ascoltate non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato.	24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.
25 Vi ho detto queste cose mentre sono ancora presso di voi.	25 I have said these things to you while still with you;
26 Ma il Paràclito, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, lui vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto ciò che io vi ho detto.	26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.
27 Vi lascio la pace, vi do la mia pace. Non come la dà il mondo, io la do a voi. Non sia turbato il vostro cuore e non abbia timore.	27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
28 Avete udito che vi ho detto: “Vado e tornerò da voi”. Se mi amaste, vi rallegrereste che io vado al Padre, perché il Padre è più grande di me.	28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 Ve l’ho detto ora, prima che avvenga, perché, quando avverrà, voi crediate.	29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.
30 Non parlerò più a lungo con voi, perché viene il principe del mondo; contro di me non può nulla,	30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,
31 ma bisogna che il mondo sappia che io amo il Padre, e come il Padre mi ha comandato, così io agisco. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui».	31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.
