Giona 3

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Fu rivolta a Giona una seconda volta questa parola del Signore:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to Jonah a second time.
2 «Àlzati, va’ a Ninive, la grande città, e annuncia loro quanto ti dico».	2 'Up!' he said, 'Go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to it as I shal tel you.'
3 Giona si alzò e andò a Ninive secondo la parola del Signore. Ninive era una città molto grande, larga tre giornate di cammino.	3 Jonah set out and went to Nineveh in obedience to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was a city greatbeyond compare; to cross it took three days.
4 Giona cominciò a percorrere la città per un giorno di cammino e predicava: «Ancora quaranta giorni e Ninive sarà distrutta».	4 Jonah began by going a day's journey into the city and then proclaimed, 'Only forty days more andNineveh will be overthrown.'
5 I cittadini di Ninive credettero a Dio e bandirono un digiuno, vestirono il sacco, grandi e piccoli.	5 And the people of Nineveh believed in God; they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from thegreatest to the least.
6 Giunta la notizia fino al re di Ninive, egli si alzò dal trono, si tolse il manto, si coprì di sacco e si mise a sedere sulla cenere.	6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his robe, put on sackclothand sat down in ashes.
7 Per ordine del re e dei suoi grandi fu poi proclamato a Ninive questo decreto: «Uomini e animali, armenti e greggi non gustino nulla, non pascolino, non bevano acqua.	7 He then had it proclaimed throughout Nineveh, by decree of the king and his nobles, as fol ows: 'Noperson or animal, herd or flock, may eat anything; they may not graze, they may not drink any water.
8 Uomini e animali si coprano di sacco, e Dio sia invocato con tutte le forze; ognuno si converta dalla sua condotta malvagia e dalla violenza che è nelle sue mani.	8 All must put on sackcloth and cal on God with al their might; and let everyone renounce his evil waysand violent behaviour.
9 Chi sa che Dio non cambi, si ravveda, deponga il suo ardente sdegno e noi non abbiamo a perire!».	9 Who knows? Perhaps God wil change his mind and relent and renounce his burning wrath, so that weshall not perish.'
10 Dio vide le loro opere, che cioè si erano convertiti dalla loro condotta malvagia, e Dio si ravvide riguardo al male che aveva minacciato di fare loro e non lo fece.	10 God saw their efforts to renounce their evil ways. And God relented about the disaster which he hadthreatened to bring on them, and did not bring it.
