1 Eliasìb, sommo sacerdote, con i suoi fratelli sacerdoti si misero a costruire la porta delle Pecore. La consacrarono e vi misero i battenti; la consacrarono fino alla torre dei Cento e fino alla torre di Cananèl.	1 And Eliashib, the great priest, rose up, with his brothers, the priests, and they built the gate of the flock. They sanctified it, and they set up its double doors, and as far as the tower of one hundred cubits, they sanctified it, even to the tower of Hananel.
2 Accanto a lui costruirono gli uomini di Gerico e accanto a lui costruì Zaccur, figlio di Imrì.	2 And beside him, the men of Jericho built. And beside them, Zaccur, the son of Imri, built.
3 I figli di Senaà costruirono la porta dei Pesci, la munirono di travi e vi posero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	3 But the sons of Hassenaah built the fish gate. They covered it, and they set up its double doors and locks and bars. And beside them, Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, built.
4 Accanto a loro lavorò al restauro Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Akkos; accanto a loro lavorò al restauro Mesullàm, figlio di Berechia, figlio di Mesezabèl; accanto a loro lavorò al restauro Sadoc, figlio di Baanà.	4 And beside him, Meshullam, the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel, built. And beside them, Zadok, the son of Baana, built.
5 Accanto a loro lavorarono al restauro quelli di Tekòa, ma i loro notabili non piegarono il collo a lavorare all’opera del loro Signore.	5 And beside them, the Tekoites built. But the nobles among them did not put their necks to the work of their Lord.
6 Ioiadà, figlio di Pasèach, e Mesullàm, figlio di Besodia, restaurarono la porta Vecchia, la munirono di travi e vi posero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	6 And Joiada, the son of Paseah, and Meshullam, the son of Besodeiah, built the old gate. They covered it, and they set up its double doors and locks and bars.
7 Accanto a loro lavorarono al restauro Melatia di Gàbaon, Iadon di Meronòt e gli uomini di Gàbaon e di Mispa, alle dipendenze della sede del governatore dell’Oltrefiume.	7 And beside them, Melatiah, a Gibeonite, and Jadon, a Meronothite, men from Gibeon and Mizpah, built, on behalf of the governor who was in the region across the river.
8 Accanto a loro lavorò al restauro Uzzièl, figlio di Caraià, uno degli orefici, e accanto a lui lavorò al restauro Anania, uno dei profumieri. Essi ricostruirono Gerusalemme fino al muro largo.	8 And beside him, Uzziel, the son of Harhaiah the goldsmith, built. And beside him, Hananiah, the son of the perfumer, built. And they left aside Jerusalem as far as the wall of the broad street.
9 Accanto a loro lavorò al restauro Refaià, figlio di Cur, capo della metà del distretto di Gerusalemme.	9 And beside him, Rephaiah, the son of Hur, leader of a street of Jerusalem, built.
10 Accanto a loro lavorò al restauro, di fronte alla sua casa, Iedaià, figlio di Carumàf, e accanto a lui lavorò al restauro Cattus, figlio di Casabnia.	10 And beside him, Jedaiah, the son of Harumaph, built, opposite his own house. And beside him, Hattush, the son of Hashabneiah, built.
11 Malchia, figlio di Carim, e Cassub, figlio di Pacat-Moab, restaurarono la parte seguente e la torre dei Forni.	11 Malchijah, the son of Harim, and Hasshub, the son of Pahath-moab, built one half part of the street and the tower of the furnaces.
12 Accanto a loro lavorò al restauro, insieme con le figlie, Sallum, figlio di Allochès, capo della metà del distretto di Gerusalemme.	12 And beside him, Shallum, the son of Hallohesh, the leader of one half part of a street of Jerusalem, built, he and his daughters.
13 Canun e gli abitanti di Zanòach restaurarono la porta della Valle; la costruirono, vi posero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Fecero inoltre mille cubiti di muro fino alla porta del Letame.	13 And Hanun built the gate of the valley, with the inhabitants of Zanoah. They built it, and they set up its double doors and locks and bars, with one thousand cubits of the wall, as far as the gate of the dunghill.
14 Malchia, figlio di Recab, capo del distretto di Bet-Cherem, restaurò la porta del Letame; la costruì, vi pose i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	14 And Malchijah, the son of Rechab, the leader of the street of Beth-haccherem, built the gate of the dunghill. He built it, and he set up its double doors and locks and bars.
15 Sallum, figlio di Col-Cozè, preposto del distretto di Mispa, restaurò la porta della Fonte; la ricostruì, la munì di tetto, vi pose i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Fece inoltre il muro della piscina di Sìloe, presso il giardino del re, fino alla scalinata per cui si scende dalla Città di Davide.	15 And Shallum, the son of Colhozeh, the leader of the district of Mizpah, built the gate of the fountain. He built it, and he covered it, and he set up its double doors and locks and bars, and the walls of the pool of Shelah at the garden of the king, and as far as the steps that descend from the City of David.
16 Dopo di lui Neemia, figlio di Azbuk, preposto della metà del distretto di Bet-Sur, lavorò al restauro fin davanti alle tombe di Davide, fino alla piscina artificiale e fino alla casa dei prodi.	16 After him, Nehemiah, the son of Azbuk, the leader of one half part of the street of Bethzur, built, as far as opposite the sepulcher of David, and even to the pool, which was constructed with great labor, and even to the house of the strong.
17 Dopo di lui lavorarono al restauro i leviti, con Recum, figlio di Banì, e accanto a lui lavorò al restauro, per il suo distretto, Casabia, preposto della metà del distretto di Keila.	17 After him, the Levites, Rehum, the son of Bani, built. 20 Dopo di lui Baruc, figlio di Zabbài, restaurò con impegno un’altra parte, dal Cantone fino alla porta della casa di Eliasìb, sommo sacerdote.	20 After him, at the mount, Baruch, the son of Zabbai, built another measure, from the corner even to the door of the house of Eliashib, the great priest.
21 Dopo di lui Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Akkos, restaurò un’altra parte, dalla porta della casa di Eliasìb fino all’estremità della casa di Eliasìb.	21 After him, Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, built another measure, from the door of the house of Eliashib, along the length of the house of Eliashib.

23 Dopo di loro Beniamino e Cassub lavorarono al restauro di fronte alla loro casa. Dopo di loro Azaria, figlio di Maasia, figlio di Anania, lavorò al restauro presso la sua casa.	23 After him, Benjamin and Hasshub built, opposite their own house. 24 Dopo di lui Binnùi, figlio di Chenadàd, restaurò un’altra parte delle mura, dalla casa di Azaria fino al Cantone e fino all’angolo.	24 After him, Binnui, the son of Henadad, built another measure, from the house of Azariah, even to the bend and to the corner.
25 Palal, figlio di Uzài, lavorò al restauro di fronte al Cantone e alla torre sporgente dalla parte superiore della reggia, che dà sul cortile della prigione. Dopo di lui Pedaià, figlio di Paros,	25 Palal, the son of Uzai, built, opposite the bend and the tower that projects from the high house of the king, that is, into the court of the prison. After him, Pedaiah, the son of Parosh, built.
26 e gli oblati che abitavano sull’Ofel lavorarono al restauro fin davanti alla porta delle Acque, verso oriente, e alla torre sporgente.	26 And the temple servants, who were living in Ophel, built to a point opposite the water gate, toward the east, and the tower that is prominent.
27 Dopo di loro quelli di Tekòa restaurarono un’altra parte, di fronte alla grande torre sporgente e fino al muro dell’Ofel.	27 After him, the Tekoites built another measure in the opposite area, from the great and prominent tower to the wall of the temple.
28 I sacerdoti lavorarono al restauro sopra la porta dei Cavalli, ciascuno di fronte alla propria casa.	28 Then, upward from the horse gate, the priests built, each one opposite his own house.
29 Dopo di loro lavorò al restauro Sadoc, figlio di Immer, di fronte alla sua casa, e dopo di lui Semaià, figlio di Secania, custode della porta Orientale.	29 After them, Zadok, the son of Immer, built, opposite his own house. 30 Dopo di lui Anania, figlio di Selemia, e Canun, sesto figlio di Salaf, restaurarono un’altra parte. Dopo di loro Mesullàm, figlio di Berechia, lavorò al restauro di fronte alla propria stanza.	30 After him, Hananiah, the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, built another measure. After him, Malchijah, the son of the goldsmith, built, even up to the house of the temple servants and of the sellers of small items, opposite the judgment gate, and even to the upper room of the corner.
31 Dopo di lui Malchia, uno degli orefici, lavorò al restauro fino alla casa degli oblati e dei mercanti, di fronte alla porta della Rassegna e fino al vano superiore dell’angolo.	31 And within the upper room of the corner, at the gate of the flock, the goldsmiths and the merchants built.
32 Gli orefici e i mercanti lavorarono al restauro fra il vano superiore dell’angolo e la porta delle Pecore.
33 Sanballàt, quando sentì che noi riedificavamo le mura, si adirò, si indignò molto, si fece beffe dei Giudei
34 e disse in presenza dei suoi fratelli e dei soldati di Samaria: «Che vogliono fare questi miserabili Giudei? Dobbiamo lasciarli fare? Offriranno sacrifici? Finiranno in un sol giorno? Vogliono far rivivere da mucchi di polvere delle pietre già consumate dal fuoco?».
35 Tobia l’Ammonita, che gli stava accanto, disse: «Edifichino pure! Se una volpe vi salta sopra, farà crollare il loro muro di pietra!».
36 Ascolta, o nostro Dio, come siamo disprezzati! Fa’ ricadere sul loro capo l’insulto e abbandonali al saccheggio in un paese di schiavitù!
37 Non coprire la loro colpa e non sia cancellato dalla tua vista il loro peccato, perché hanno offeso i costruttori.
38 Noi dunque ricostruimmo le mura, che furono ben consolidate fino a metà altezza, e al popolo stava a cuore il lavoro.
