1 Quando divenne re, Ioas aveva sette anni.	1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.
2 Divenne re nell’anno settimo di Ieu e regnò quarant’anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre, di Bersabea, si chiamava Sibìa.	2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.
3 Ioas fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore per tutta la sua vita, perché lo aveva istruito il sacerdote Ioiadà.	3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.
4 Ma non scomparvero le alture, dal momento che il popolo sacrificava e offriva ancora incenso sulle alture.	4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.
5 Ioas disse ai sacerdoti: «Tutto il denaro delle cose sacre, che viene portato nel tempio del Signore, il denaro corrente versato da ognuno come riscatto della persona e tutto il denaro delle libere offerte di ciascuno al tempio del Signore,	5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--
6 lo ritirino per sé i sacerdoti, ognuno dai propri addetti; ed essi riparino le parti danneggiate del tempio, ovunque vi trovino danni».	6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."
7 Ora nell’anno ventitreesimo del re Ioas i sacerdoti non avevano ancora riparato le parti danneggiate del tempio.	7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.
8 Il re Ioas convocò il sacerdote Ioiadà con i sacerdoti e disse loro: «Perché non avete riparato le parti danneggiate del tempio? D’ora innanzi non dovrete più ritirare il denaro dai vostri addetti, ma lo consegnerete direttamente per le parti danneggiate del tempio».	8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."
9 I sacerdoti acconsentirono a non ricevere più il denaro dal popolo e a non curare il restauro del tempio.	9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.
10 Il sacerdote Ioiadà prese una cassa, vi fece un buco nel coperchio e la pose a lato dell’altare, a destra di chi entra nel tempio del Signore. I sacerdoti custodi della soglia depositavano ivi tutto il denaro portato al tempio del Signore.	10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.
11 Quando vedevano che nella cassa c’era molto denaro, saliva lo scriba del re, insieme con il sommo sacerdote, ed essi raccoglievano e contavano il denaro trovato nel tempio del Signore.	11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.
12 Consegnavano il denaro controllato nelle mani degli esecutori dei lavori, sovrintendenti al tempio del Signore. Costoro lo distribuivano ai falegnami e ai costruttori che lavoravano nel tempio del Signore,	12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,
13 ai muratori, agli scalpellini, per l’acquisto di legname e pietre da taglio, per riparare le parti danneggiate del tempio del Signore e per tutto quanto era necessario per riparare il tempio.	13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.
14 Ma con il denaro portato al tempio del Signore non si dovevano fare nel tempio del Signore né coppe d’argento, né coltelli, né vasi per l’aspersione, né trombe, nessun oggetto d’oro o d’argento.	14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.
15 Esso infatti era consegnato solo agli esecutori dei lavori, perché riparassero il tempio del Signore.	15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.
16 Non si controllavano coloro nelle cui mani veniva consegnato il denaro da dare agli esecutori dei lavori, perché lavoravano con onestà.	16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.
17 Il denaro del sacrificio di riparazione e del sacrificio per il peccato non era portato nel tempio del Signore, ma era per i sacerdoti.	17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.
18 In quel tempo Cazaèl, re di Aram, salì per combattere contro Gat e la conquistò. Poi Cazaèl si accinse a salire a Gerusalemme.	18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.
19 Ioas, re di Giuda, prese tutti gli oggetti consacrati da Giòsafat, da Ioram e da Acazia, suoi padri, re di Giuda, e quelli consacrati da lui stesso, insieme con tutto l’oro trovato nei tesori del tempio del Signore e della reggia; egli mandò tutto ciò a Cazaèl, re di Aram, che si allontanò da Gerusalemme.	19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.
20 Le altre gesta di Ioas e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?	20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
21 I suoi ufficiali si sollevarono organizzando una congiura; colpirono Ioas a Bet-Millo, nella discesa verso Silla.	21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.
22 Iozabàd, figlio di Simeàt, e Iozabàd, figlio di Somer, suoi ufficiali, lo colpirono ed egli morì. Lo seppellirono con i suoi padri nella Città di Davide e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Amasia.	22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
