1 Nell’anno diciottesimo del re Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, Abiam divenne re su Giuda.	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 Regnò tre anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maacà, figlia di Abisalòm.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 Egli imitò tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commesso prima di lui; il suo cuore non fu integro con il Signore, suo Dio, come il cuore di Davide, suo padre.	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 Ma, per amore di Davide, il Signore, suo Dio, gli concesse una lampada a Gerusalemme, facendo sorgere suo figlio dopo di lui e rendendo stabile Gerusalemme,	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 perché Davide aveva fatto ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore e non aveva deviato da quanto il Signore aveva ordinato, durante tutta la sua vita, se si eccettua il caso di Uria l’Ittita.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).

8 Abiam si addormentò con i suoi padri; lo seppellirono nella Città di Davide e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Asa.	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 Nell’anno ventesimo di Geroboamo, re d’Israele, Asa divenne re di Giuda.	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 Egli regnò quarantun anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maacà, figlia di Abisalòm.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Asa fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, come Davide, suo padre.	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 Eliminò i prostituti sacri dalla terra e allontanò tutti gli idoli che avevano fatto i suoi padri.	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 Privò anche sua madre Maacà del titolo di regina madre, perché ella aveva eretto ad Asera un’immagine infame; Asa demolì l’immagine infame e la bruciò nella valle del torrente Cedron.	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 Ma non scomparvero le alture, anche se il cuore di Asa si mantenne integro nei riguardi del Signore per tutta la sua vita.	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 Fece portare nel tempio del Signore le offerte consacrate da suo padre e quelle consacrate da lui stesso, consistenti in argento, oro e utensili.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Ci fu guerra fra Asa e Baasà, re d’Israele, per tutta la loro vita.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 Il re d’Israele, Baasà, salì contro Giuda; egli fortificò Rama per impedire il transito ad Asa, re di Giuda.	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa prese tutto l’argento e l’oro rimasti nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nei tesori della reggia, li consegnò ai suoi ministri, che li portarono per ordine del re Asa a Ben-Adàd, figlio di Tabrimmòn, figlio di Cheziòn, re di Aram, residente a Damasco, con questa proposta:	18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,
19 «Ci sia un’alleanza fra me e te, come tra mio padre e tuo padre. Ecco, ti mando un dono d’argento e d’oro. Su, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasà, re d’Israele, in modo che egli si ritiri da me».	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 Ben-Adàd ascoltò il re Asa; mandò contro le città d’Israele i comandanti del suo esercito, che colpirono Iion, Dan, Abel-Bet-Maacà e l’intera regione di Chinaròt, compreso tutto il territorio di Nèftali.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 Quando lo seppe, Baasà smise di fortificare Rama e tornò a Tirsa.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 Allora il re Asa convocò tutti quelli di Giuda, nessuno escluso; costoro andarono a prendere le pietre e il legname con cui Baasà stava fortificando Rama e con essi il re Asa fortificò Gheba di Beniamino e Mispa.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.
23 Tutte le altre gesta di Asa, tutta la sua potenza e tutte le sue azioni, le città che egli edificò, non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda? In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.

25 Nadab, figlio di Geroboamo, divenne re su Israele nell’anno secondo di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò su Israele due anni.	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.

27 Contro di lui congiurò Baasà, figlio di Achia, della casa di Ìssacar; Baasà lo colpì a Ghibbetòn, che apparteneva ai Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavano Ghibbetòn.	27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.
28 Baasà lo fece morire nell’anno terzo di Asa, re di Giuda, e divenne re al suo posto.	28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.
29 Appena divenuto re, egli colpì tutta la casa di Geroboamo: non risparmiò nessuno della stirpe di Geroboamo, fino ad estinguerla, secondo la parola del Signore pronunciata per mezzo del suo servo Achia di Silo,	29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,
30 a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo commise e fece commettere a Israele, e a causa dello sdegno a cui aveva provocato il Signore, Dio d’Israele.	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.
