Siracide 11

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 La sapienza dell'umile gli farà tenere alta la testa, gli permetterà di sedere tra i grandi.	1 Wisdom enables the poor to stand erect, and gives to the poor a place with the great.
2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua bellezza e non detestare un uomo per il suo aspetto.	2 Do not praise anyone for good looks, nor dislike anyone for mere appearance.
3 L'ape è piccola tra gli esseri alati, ma il suo prodotto ha il primato fra i dolci sapori.	3 Smal among winged creatures is the bee but her produce is the sweetest of the sweet.
4 Non ti vantare per le vesti che indossi e non insuperbirti nel giorno della gloria, poiché stupende sono le opere del Signore, eppure sono nascoste agli uomini le opere sue.	4 Do not grow proud when people honour you; for the works of the Lord are wonderful but hidden fromhuman beings.
5 Molti sovrani sedettero sulla polvere e uno sconosciuto cinse il loro diadema.	5 Many monarchs have been made to sit on the ground, and the person nobody thought of has worn thecrown.
6 Molti potenti furono umiliati profondamente; uomini illustri furono consegnati in potere altrui.	6 Many influential people have been utterly disgraced, and prominent people have fal en into the power ofothers.
7 Non biasimare prima di avere indagato, prima rifletti e quindi condanna.	7 Do not find fault before making thorough enquiry; first reflect, then give a reprimand.
8 Non rispondere prima di avere ascoltato, in mezzo ai discorsi non intrometterti.	8 Listen before you answer, and do not interrupt a speech before it is finished.
9 Per una cosa di cui non hai bisogno non litigare, non immischiarti nelle liti dei peccatori.	9 Do not wrangle about something that does not concern you, do not interfere in the quarrels of sinners.
10 Figlio, la tua attività non abbracci troppe cose; se esageri, non sarai esente da colpa; anche se corri, non arriverai e non riuscirai a scampare con la fuga.	10 My child, do not take on a great amount of business; if you multiply your interests, you are bound to suffer for it; hurry as fast as you can, yet you wil never arrive, nor wil you escape by running away.
11 C'è chi lavora, fatica e si affanna: eppure resta tanto più indietro.	11 Some people work very hard at top speed, only to find themselves fal ing further behind.
12 C'è chi è debole e ha bisogno di soccorso, chi è privo di beni e ricco di miseria: eppure il Signore lo guarda con benevolenza, lo solleva dalla sua bassezza	12 Or there is the slow kind of person, needing help, poor in possessions and rich in poverty; and theLord turns a favourable eye on him, lifts him out of his wretched condition,
13 e lo fa stare a testa alta, sì che molti ne sono stupiti.	13 and enables him to hold his head high, thus causing general astonishment.
14 Bene e male, vita e morte, povertà e ricchezza, tutto proviene dal Signore.	14 Good and bad, life and death, poverty and wealth, al come from the Lord.
15 Sapienza, senno e conoscenza della legge vengono dal Signore; carità e rettitudine sono dono del Signore.	15
16 Errore e tenebre sono per gli empi e il male resta per i malvagi.	16
17 Il dono del Signore è assicurato ai pii e il suo favore li rende felici per sempre.	17 To the devout the Lord's gift remains constant, and his favour will be there to lead them for ever.
18 C'è chi è ricco a forza di attenzione e di risparmio; ed ecco la parte della sua ricompensa:	18 Others grow rich by pinching and scraping, and here is the reward they receive for it:
19 mentre dice: "Ho trovato riposo; ora mi godrò i miei beni", non sa quanto tempo ancora trascorrerà; lascerà tutto ad altri e morirà.	19 although they say, 'Now I can sit back and enjoy the benefit of what I have got,' they do not know howlong this wil last; they will have to leave their goods to others and die.
20 Sta' fermo al tuo impegno e fanne la tua vita, invecchia compiendo il tuo lavoro.	20 Stick to your job, work hard at it and grow old at your work.
21 Non ammirare le opere del peccatore, confida nel Signore e persevera nella fatica, perché è facile per il Signore arricchire un povero all'improvviso.	21 Do not admire the achievements of sinners, trust the Lord and mind your own business; since it is atrifle in the eyes of the Lord, in a moment, suddenly to make the poor rich.
22 La benedizione del Signore è la ricompensa del pio; in un istante Dio farà sbocciare la sua benedizione.	22 The blessing of the Lord is the reward of the devout, in a moment God brings his blessing to flower.
23 Non dire: "Di che cosa ho bisogno e di quali beni disporrò d'ora innanzi?".	23 Do not say, 'What are my needs, how much shal I have in the future?'
24 Non dire: "Ho quanto mi occorre; che cosa potrà ormai capitarmi di male?".	24 And do not say, 'I am self-sufficient, what disaster can affect me now?'
25 Nel tempo della prosperità si dimentica la sventura; nel tempo della sventura non si ricorda la prosperità.	25 In prosperous times, disasters are forgotten and in times of disaster, no one remembers prosperity.
26 È facile per il Signore nel giorno della morte rendere all'uomo secondo la sua condotta.	26 Yet it is a trifle for the Lord on the day someone dies to repay him as his conduct deserves.
27 L'infelicità di un'ora fa dimenticare il benessere; alla morte di un uomo si rivelano le sue opere.	27 A moment's adversity, and pleasures are forgotten; in a person's last hour his deeds wil standrevealed.
28 Prima della fine non chiamare nessuno beato; un uomo si conosce veramente alla fine.	28 Cal no one fortunate before his death; it is by his end that someone wil be known.
29 Non portare in casa qualsiasi persona, perché sono molte le insidie del fraudolento.	29 Do not bring everyone home with you, for many are the traps of the crafty.
30 Una pernice da richiamo in gabbia, tale il cuore del superbo; come una spia egli attende la tua caduta.	30 Like a captive partridge in a cage, so is the heart of the proud: like a spy he watches for your downfal ,
31 Cambiando il bene in male tende insidie, troverà difetti anche nelle cose migliori.	31 ever on the look-out, turning good into bad and finding fault with what is praiseworthy.
32 Con una scintilla di fuoco si riempie il braciere, il peccatore sta in agguato per spargere sangue.	32 A hearthful of glowing coals starts from a single spark, and the sinner lurks for the chance to spilblood.
33 Guàrdati dal malvagio, poiché egli il male prepara, che non contamini per sempre anche te.	33 Beware of a scoundrel and his evil contrivances, in case he puts a smear on you for ever.
34 Ospita un estraneo, ti metterà sottosopra ogni cosa e ti renderà estraneo ai tuoi.	34 Give a home to a stranger and he wil start trouble and estrange you from your own family.
