| 1 Di nuovo si mise a insegnare in riva al mare. Una grandissima folla gli si era radunata intorno, sicchè egli, salito in barca, stava in mare, mentre tutta la folla era a terra, sulla riva. | 1 Again he began to teach them by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he gotinto a boat on the water and sat there. The whole crowd were at the lakeside on land. |
| 2 E insegnava loro molte cose in parabole, e nel suo insegnamento diceva: | 2 He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them, |
| 3 « Ascoltate! Ecco, il seminatore uscì a seminare. | 3 'Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow. |
| 4 Mentre seminava, parte della sementa cadde lungo la via, e venuti gli uccelli se la mangiarono. | 4 Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds cameand ate it up. |
| 5 Altra cadde in suolo roccioso, dove non c’era molta terra, e subito spuntò perchè non aveva terrà in profondità, | 5 Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and at once sprang up, because there was nodepth of earth; |
| 6 ma quando si levò il sole bruciò e per difetto di radice seccò. | 6 and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away. |
| 7 Altra sementa cadde fra le spine, e quando crebbero le spine la soffocarono e così non diede frutto. | 7 Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop. |
| 8 Altra, infine, cadde nella terra buona e diede frutto che crebbe e granì e produsse quale il trenta, quale il sessanta, quale il cento ». | 8 And some seeds fell into rich soil, grew tal and strong, and produced a good crop; the yield was thirty,sixty, even a hundredfold.' |
| 9 È diceva: « Chi ha orecchie per intendere, intenda! ». | 9 And he said, 'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!' |
| 10 E quando fu solo, quelli che lo attorniavano con i dodici lo interrogarono a proposito delle parabole. | 10 When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what theparables meant. |
| 11 Ed egli disse loro: «A voi è dato il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a quelli che sono di fuori tutto è proposto in parabole, affinchè | 11 He told them, 'To you is granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outsideeverything comes in parables, |
| 12 guardando tutt’occhi non vedano, è ascoltando tutt’orecchi non discernano, perchè non si convertano e venga loro perdonato ». | 12 so that they may look and look, but never perceive; listen and listen, but never understand; to avoidchanging their ways and being healed.' |
| 13 E disse loro: « Non comprendete questa parabola? e come comprenderete tutte le parabole? | 13 He said to them, 'Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of theparables? |
| 14 Il seminatore semina la Parola. | 14 What the sower is sowing is the word. |
| 15 Ora, quelli che sono lungo la via, sono coloro nei quali la Parola è seminata, e quando l’hanno udita subito viene Satana e porta via la Parola seminata in essi | 15 Those on the edge of the path where the word is sown are people who have no sooner heard it thanSatan at once comes and carries away the word that was sown in them. |
| 16 Similmente, quelli seminati in suolo roccioso sono coloro i quali, quando ascoltano la Parola, subito la accolgono con gioia, | 16 Similarly, those who are sown on patches of rock are people who, when first they hear the word,welcome it at once with joy. |
| 17 ma non hanno radice in se stessi e sono incostanti; viene una tribolazione, una persecuzione a causa della Parola, e soccombono. | 17 But they have no root deep down and do not last; should some trial come, or some persecution onaccount of the word, at once they fal away. |
| 18 Quelli che sono seminati tra le spine rappresentano altri: sono coloro che hanno ascoltato la Parola, | 18 Then there are others who are sown in thorns. These have heard the word, |
| 19 ma la preoccupazione materiale, la seduzione delle ricchezze ed altre cupidigie penetrano in loro e soffocano la Parola, che diventa sterile. | 19 but the worries of the world, the lure of riches and al the other passions come in to choke the word,and so it produces nothing. |
| 20 Quelli, infine, che sono seminati nella terra buona, sono coloro che ascoltano la Parola e l’accolgono, e danno frutto: chi trenta, chi sessanta, chi cento ». | 20 And there are those who have been sown in rich soil; they hear the word and accept it and yield aharvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.' |
| 21 E diceva loro: « Si porta forse la lucerna per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? O non piuttosto per metterla sul candelabro? | 21 He also said to them, 'Is a lamp brought in to be put under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put onthe lamp-stand? |
| 22 Poichè non c’è nulla di nascosto che non debba esser manifestato, e nulla è segreto che non venga in luce. | 22 For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. |
| 23 Chi ha orecchie per intendere, intenda! ». | 23 Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!' |
| 24 Diceva anche ad essi: « State attenti a ciò che udite. Con la misura con la quale misurerete vi sarà misurato; e a voi che ascoltate sarà dato di più. | 24 He also said to them, 'Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use wil be used for you-- and you wil receive more besides; |
| 25 Poichè a chi ha sarà dato, e a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha». | 25 anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, wil be deprived even of what he has.' |
| 26 Diceva ancora ad essi: « Così è il regno di Dio, come un uomo che getta in terra la sementa; | 26 He also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land. |
| 27 dorma o vegli, notte e giorno, la sementa germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come. | 27 Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he doesnot know. |
| 28 La terra produce da sè prima erba, poi spiga, poi grano pieno nella spiga. | 28 Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. |
| 29 E, quando il frutto si presta, subito vi si mette la falce perchè è venuta la mietitura ». | 29 And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come.' |
| 30 Diceva ancora: « A che cosa potremmo paragonare il regno di Dio o con quale parabola rappresentarlo? | 30 He also said, 'What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it? |
| 31 Come un granello di senapa: quando lo si semina in terra è il più piccolo di tutti i semi della terra; | 31 It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smal est of al the seeds on earth. |
| 32 ma, una volta seminato, cresce e diventa più grande di tutti gli ortaggi è mette rami così grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono rifugiarsi alla sua ombra ». | 32 Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them al and puts out big branches so that thebirds of the air can shelter in its shade.' |
| 33 E con molte parabole simili annunziava loro la Parola secondo che potevano capire, | 33 Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable ofunderstanding it. |
| 34 e non parlava loro senza parabole, ma in privato spiegava tutto ai discepoli. | 34 He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when theywere by themselves. |
| 35 Quel giorno stesso, fattasi sera, disse loro: « Passiamo all’altra riva ». | 35 With the coming of evening that same day, he said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side.' |
| 36 E lasciata la folla, essi lo condussero con loro così com’era nella barca, ed altre barche erano con lui. | 36 And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boatswith him. |
| 37 Sopravvenne un violento turbine di vento che spingeva le onde nella barca, in modo che essa ne era già piena. | 37 Then it began to blow a great gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almostswamped. |
| 38 Ed egli, a poppa, dormiva sopra un cuscino. Lo svegliarono e gli dissero: « Maestro, non l'importa che periamo? ». | 38 But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep. |
| 39 Ed egli, svegliatosì, minacciò il vento e disse al mare: « Taci! calmati! ». E il vento cadde e si fece grande bonaccia. | 39 They woke him and said to him, 'Master, do you not care? We are lost!' And he woke up and rebukedthe wind and said to the sea, 'Quiet now! Be calm!' And the wind dropped, and there followed a great calm. |
| 40 Poi disse loro: « Perchè avete paura così? Come! Non avete fede? ». | 40 Then he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened? Have you stil no faith?' |
| 41 Ed essi furono resi da gran timore e si dicevano tra loro: « Chi è dunque costui che anche il vento e il mare gli ubbidiscono? ». | 41 They were overcome with awe and said to one another, 'Who can this be? Even the wind and the seaobey him.' |
