| 1 Ed entrò di nuovo nella sinagoga, dove si trovava un uomo che aveva una mano secca. | 1 Again he entered the synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand. |
| 2 I farisei lo osservavano per vedere se lo avrebbe guarito in giorno di sabato, per poterlo accusare. | 2 They watched him closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him. |
| 3 Egli disse all’uomo che aveva la mano secca:« Vieni qui in mezzo! ». | 3 He said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up here before us." |
| 4 Poi disse loro: « Che cosa è lecito in giorno di sabato: fare del bene o fare del male? salvare uno o lasciarlo perire? ». E quelli tacevano. | 4 Then he said to them, "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" But they remained silent. |
| 5 Allora li guardò in giro indignato e, rattristato per l’indurimento del loro Cuore, disse all’uomo: « Stendi la mano! ». Quegli la stese è la mano ridivenne sana. | 5 Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out and his hand was restored. |
| 6 Appena usciti, i farisei tennero consiglio con gli erodiani contro Gesù, sul modo come farlo perire. | 6 The Pharisees went out and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him to put him to death. |
| 7 Gesù si ritirò con i suoi discepoli presso il mare e una gran folla venuta dalla Galilea lo seguì; | 7 Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people (followed) from Galilee and from Judea. |
| 8 anche dalla Giudea, da Gerusalemme, dall’Idumea, dall’oltre Giordano e dal paese di Tiro e di Sidone una gran folla, avendo appreso tutto ciò che egli faceva, venne a lui. | 8 Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. |
| 9 Egli disse, perciò, ai suoi discepoli di tener sempre a sua disposizione una barca, per non essere oppresso dalla folla. | 9 He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. |
| 10 Aveva, infatti, guarito molti, e tutti gli afflitti da malanni si precipitavano su di lui per toccarlo. | 10 He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. |
| 11 E gli spiriti immondi, vedendolo, cadevano ai suoi piedi gridando: « Tu sei il Figlio di Dio! ». | 11 And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, "You are the Son of God." |
| 12 Ma egli intimava loro aspramente di non manifestare chi era lui. | 12 He warned them sternly not to make him known. |
| 13 Poi salì sulla montagna e chiamò a sè quelli che egli volle, ed essi andarono a lui. | 13 He went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. |
| 14 E ne costituì dodici perchè stessero con lui, e per mandarli a predicare | 14 He appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach |
| 15 col potere di cacciare i demoni. | 15 and to have authority to drive out demons: |
| 16 Costituì, dunque, i dodici: Simone, al quale diede il nome di Pietro; | 16 (he appointed the twelve:) Simon, whom he named Peter; |
| 17 Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni, fratello di Giacomo, ai quali diede il nome di « Boanerghes », cioè figli del tuono; | 17 James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; |
| 18 Andrea, Filippo Bartolomeo, Matteo, ‘Tommaso, Giacomo figlio di Alfeo, Taddeo, Simone il Cananeo | 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, |
| 19 e Giuda Iscariota, quello che poi lo tradì. | 19 and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him. |
| 20 Poi tornò a casa, e di nuovo si radunò tanta folla che non potevano neppure mangiare. | 20 He came home. Again (the) crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. |
| 21 I suoi, avendolo saputo, partirono per impadronirsi di lui, perchè dicevano: « È fuori di sè! ». | 21 When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, "He is out of his mind." |
| 22 Gli scribi che erano discesi da Gerusalemme dicevano: « È posseduto da Beelzebul. Scaccia i demoni per virtù del capo dei demoni! ». | 22 The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons." |
| 23 Chiamandoli, allora, Gesù disse loro in parabole: « Come Satana può scacciare Satana? | 23 Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables, "How can Satan drive out Satan? |
| 24 Se un regno è in discordia contro se stesso, questo regno non può sussistere. | 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. |
| 25 E se una casa è in discordia contro se stessa, questa casa non può sussistere. | 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. |
| 26 Se, dunque, Satana è insorto contro se stesso ed è in discordia, non può sussistere; anzi è finito. | 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that is the end of him. |
| 27 Nessuno può entrare nella casa di colui che è forte e saccheggiargli le masserizie se prima non lo abbia legato; allora soltanto potrà saccheggiargli la casa. | 27 But no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house. |
| 28 In verità vi dico: ai figli degli uomini saranno perdonati tutti i peccati e tutte le bestemmie che avranno detto; | 28 Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. |
| 29 ma chi avrà bestemmiato contro lo Spirito Santo non avrà perdono in eterno, ma è reo di peccato eterno». | 29 But whoever blasphemes against the holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin." |
| 30 Giacchè dicevano: « È posseduto da uno spirito immondo ». | 30 For they had said, "He has an unclean spirit." |
| 31 Arrivano intanto sua madre e i suoi fratelli, e, fermatisi fuori, lo fanno chiamare. | 31 His mother and his brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent word to him and called him. |
| 32 La folla gli stava seduta intorno, e gli dicono: « Ecco, tua madre e i tuoi fratelli sono di fuori e ti cercano». | 32 A crowd seated around him told him, "Your mother and your brothers (and your sisters) are outside asking for you." |
| 33 Ma egli risponde: « Chi è mia madre e chi sono i miei fratelli? ». | 33 But he said to them in reply, "Who are my mother and (my) brothers?" |
| 34 E guardando in giro quelli che gli sedevano intorno dice: « Ecco mia madre e i miei fratelli! | 34 And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. |
| 35 Chiunque, infatti, fa la volontà di Dio, quegli mi è fratello e sorella e madre ». | 35 (For) whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother." |
