| 2 E che, figlio mio? E che, figlio delle mie viscere? E che, figlio dei miei voti? | 2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? |
| 3 Non gettare il tuo vigore alle donne né i tuoi costumi alle corruttrici dei re. | 3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. |
| 4 Non si addice ai re, o Lemuel, non si addice ai re bere vino né ai governanti la bevanda inebriante. | 4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: |
| 5 Se no, bevendo, dimentica le leggi e tradisce il diritto di tutti i figli della miseria. | 5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. |
| 6 Date bevanda inebriante al misero e il vino all’afflitto: | 6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. |
| 7 berrà e dimenticherà la miseria né ricorderà più gli affanni. | 7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. |
| 8 Apri la bocca in favore del muto, a difesa d’ogni derelitto; | 8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. |
| 9 apri la tua bocca, giudica con giustizia, da ragione al misero e al povero. | 9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. |
| 10 Una brava donna chi sa trovarla? Il suo pregio sorpassa quello delle perle. | 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. |
| 11 Il cuore del marito confida in lei e non manca mai roba. | 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. |
| 12 Gli dà piacere e non disgusto, mai, tutti i giorni della sua vita. | 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. |
| 13 Si procura lana e lino : e lavora alacremente con le sue mani. | 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. |
| 14 Essa è simile alla nave dei mercanti: fa venire il suo vitto fino da lontano. | 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. |
| 15 Si alza quando è ancora notte, distribuisce il cibo alla sua casa | e il lavoro alle giovani. | 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. |
| 16 Adocchiato un podere lo compera; con il guadagno delle sue mani pianta una vigna. | 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. |
| 17 Si cinge i fianchi di energia e fortifica le sue braccia. | 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. |
| 18 Vede con gioia che il suo lavoro rende bene; neppure di notte si spegne la sua fiaccola. | 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. |
| 19 Mette mano alla conocchia, le sue dita fanno prillare il fuso. | 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. |
| 20 Stende la mano al misero, allunga le palme verso il povero. | 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. |
| 21 Non teme la neve per la sua casa, perché tutti in casa hanno vestito doppio. | 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. |
| 22 Si fa cuscini morbidi, ha vesti di bisso e di porpora. | 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. |
| 23 Suo marito è noto alle porte, quando siede con gli anziani del paese. | 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. |
| 24 Lavora tela fine e la vende; e dà cinture al Cananeo. | 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. |
| 25 Forza e dignità sono la sua veste; ridente va incontro all’avvenire, | 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. |
| 26 Apre la bocca con saggezza; per la sua lingua la dolcezza è legge. | 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. |
| 27 Sorveglia l’andamento della casa e non mangia pane di ozio. | 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. |
| 28 Sorgono i suoi figli e la dicono beata; e anche suo marito la loda: | 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. |
| 29 «Molte figlie hanno fatto prodezze, ma tu le hai superate tutte». | 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. |
| 30 La grazia è fallace, la bellezza è un soffio; ma la donna che teme Jahvè, essa è da lodare. | 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. |
| 31 Datele i frutti del suo lavoro e la celebrino alle porte le sue opere. | 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. |
