Proverbios 29

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El hombre que, reprendido, endurece la cerviz, será pronto deshecho y sin remedio.	1 Whoever is stiff-necked under reproof wil be suddenly and irremediably broken.
2 Cuando los justos se multiplican, el pueblo se alegra, cuando dominan los malos, el pueblo gime.	2 When the upright are on the increase, the people rejoice; when the wicked are in power, the peoplegroan.
3 El que ama la sabiduría, da alegría a su padre, el que anda con prostitutas, disipa su fortuna.	3 The lover of Wisdom makes his father glad, but the patron of prostitutes fritters his wealth away.
4 El rey, con la equidad, mantiene el país, el hombre exactor lo arruina.	4 A king gives a country stability by justice, an extortioner brings it to ruin.
5 El hombre que adula a su prójimo pone una red bajo sus pasos.	5 Whoever flatters his companion spreads a net for his feet.
6 En el pecado del malo hay una trampa, pero el justo se regocija y alegra.	6 In the sin of the wicked lies a snare, but the upright exults and rejoices.
7 El justo conoce la causa de los débiles, el malo no tiene inteligencia para conocerla.	7 The upright understands the cause of the weak, the wicked has not the wit to understand it.
8 Los arrogantes turban la ciudad, los sabios alejan la cólera.	8 Scoffers set a city in ferment, but the wise moderate anger.
9 Cuando el sabio tiene un pleito con el necio, ya se exaspere o se ría, no logrará sosiego.	9 Let someone wise argue with a fool, anger and good humour alike wil be wasted.
10 Los hombres sanguinarios odian al intachable, los rectos van en busca de su persona.	10 The bloodthirsty hate the honest, but the upright seek them out.
11 El necio da salida a toda su pasión; el sabio la reprime y apacigua.	11 The fool blurts out every angry feeling, but the wise subdues and restrains them.
12 Si un jefe hace caso de las palabras mentirosas, todos sus servidores serán malos.	12 When a ruler listens to false reports, al his ministers wil be scoundrels.
13 El pobre y el opresor se encuentran, Yahveh da la luz a los ojos de ambos.	13 Poor and oppressor are found together, Yahweh gives light to the eyes of both.
14 El rey que juzga con verdad a los débiles, asegura su trono para siempre.	14 The king who judges the weak with equity sees his throne set firm for ever.
15 Vara y reprensión dan sabiduría, muchacho dejado a sí mismo, avergüenza a su madre.	15 The stick and the reprimand bestow wisdom, a young man left to himself brings shame on his mother.
16 Cuando se multiplican los malos, se multiplican los delitos, pero los justos contemplarán su caída.	16 When the wicked are on the increase, sin multiplies, but the upright wil witness their downfal .
17 Corrige a tu hijo y te dejará tranquilo; y hará las delicias de tu alma.	17 Correct your child, and he wil give you peace of mind; he will delight your soul.
18 Cuando no hay visiones, el pueblo se relaja, pero el que guarda la ley es dichoso.	18 Where there is no vision the people get out of hand; happy are they who keep the law.
19 No se corrige a un siervo con palabras, porque aunque las entienda, no las cumple.	19 Not by words is a slave corrected: even if he understands, he will take no notice.
20 ¿Has visto un hombre dispuesto siempre a hablar? más se puede esperar de un necio que de él.	20 You see someone too ready of speech? There is more to be hoped for from a fool!
21 Si se mima a un esclavo desde niño, al final será un ingrato.	21 If a slave is pampered from childhood, he wil prove ungrateful in the end.
22 El hombre violento provoca querellas, el hombre airado multiplica los delitos.	22 The hot-head provokes disputes, someone in a rage commits al sorts of sins.
23 El orgullo del pobre lo humillará; el humilde de espíritu obtendrá honores.	23 Pride brings humiliation, whoever humbles himself will win honour.
24 El que reparte con ladrón se odia a sí mismo, oye la imprecación, pero no revela nada.	24 To hear the curse and disclose nothing is to share with the thief and to hate oneself.
25 Temblar ante los hombres es un lazo; el que confía en Yahveh está seguro.	25 To be afraid of human beings is a snare, whoever trusts in Yahweh is secure.
26 Son muchos los que buscan el favor del jefe, pero es Yahveh el que juzga a cada uno.	26 Many people seek a ruler's favour, but the rights of each come from Yahweh.
27 Abominación para los justos es el hombre inicuo abominación para el malo el de recto camino.	27 Abhorrent to the upright is the sinful, abhorrent to the wicked is one whose way is straight.
