1 Como nieve en verano y lluvia en la siega, así de mal le sienta la gloria al insensato.	1 Like snow in summer, or rain in harvest, honor for a fool is out of place.
2 Como se escapa el pájaro y vuela la golondrina, así no se realiza la maldición sin motivo.	2 Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flight, a curse uncalled-for arrives nowhere.
3 Látigo para el caballo, brida para el asno y vara para la espalda de los necios.	3 The whip for the horse, the bridle for the ass, and the rod for the back of fools.
4 No respondas al necio según su necedad, no sea que tú también te vuelvas como él.	4 Answer not the fool according to his folly, lest you too become like him.
5 Responde al necio según su necedad, no vaya a creerse que es un sabio.	5 Answer the fool according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.
6 Se corta los pies, se empapa de amargura, el que envía un recado en mano de necio.	6 He cuts off his feet, he drinks down violence, who sends messages by a fool.
7 Como las piernas vacilantes del cojo, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.	7 A proverb in the mouth of a fool hangs limp, like crippled legs.
8 Como sujetar una piedra en la honda, es conceder honores a un necio.	8 Like one who entangles the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.
9 Como espino que va a parar a mano de borracho, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.	9 Like a thorn stick brandished by the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
10 Como arquero que a todos hiere, es el que toma a sueldo al necio y al borracho que pasan.	10 Like an archer wounding all who pass by is he who hires a drunken fool.
11 Como el perro vuelve a su vómito, vuelve el necio a su insensatez.	11 As the dog returns to his vomit, so the fool repeats his folly.
12 ¿Has visto a un hombre que se cree sabio? Más se puede esperar de un necio que de él.	12 You see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13 Dice el perezoso: «¡Un león en el camino! ¡Un león en la plaza!»	13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the street, a lion in the middle of the square!"
14 La puerta gira en los goznes, y el perezoso en la cama.	14 The door turns on its hinges, the sluggard, on his bed!
15 El perezoso hunde la mano en el plato; pero le fatiga llevarla a la boca.	15 The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he is too weary to lift it to his mouth.
16 El perezoso se tiene por más sabio que siete personas que responden con tacto.	16 The sluggard imagines himself wiser than seven men who answer with good sense.
17 Agarra por las orejas a un perro que pasa el que se mete en litigio que no le incumbe.	17 Like the man who seizes a passing dog by the ears is he who meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18 Como un loco que arroja saetas escondidas, flechas y muerte,	18 Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows
19 tal es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo, y dice: «¿No ves que estaba bromeando?»	19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, "I was only joking."
20 Cuando se acaba la leña, se apaga el fuego, cuando no hay chismoso, se apacigua la disputa.	20 For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides.
21 Carbón sobre brasas y leña sobre fuego, es el pleiteador para atizar querellas.	21 What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife.
22 Las palabras del delator son golosinas que bajan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.	22 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.
23 Plata con escorias esmaltada sobre arcilla, son los labios dulces con corazón perverso.	23 Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart.
24 El que odia, disimula con sus labios, pero en su interior comete perfidia;	24 With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit;
25 si da a su voz un tono amable, no te fíes, porque hay siete abominaciones en su corazón.	25 When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart.
26 Encubrirá su odio con engaño, pero en la asamblea se descubrirá su malicia.	26 A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly.
27 El que excava una fosa caerá en ella, el que hace rodar una piedra se le vendrá encima.	27 He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it.
28 La lengua mentirosa odia a sus víctimas, la boca melosa labra la ruina.	28 The lying tongue is its owner's enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin.
