BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E adesso Signore onnipotente, Dio di Israele, l'anima angustiata, e lo spirito afflitto alza le voci a te:	1 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, a soul in anguish, a troubled heart now cries to you:
2 Ascolta, o Signore, ed abbi pietà, perché tu se' Dio di misericordia, e fa misericordia con noi, perché abbiamo peccato davanti a te.	2 Listen and have pity, Lord, for we have sinned before you.
3 Perocché tu se' in eterno; e noi dovrem perire per sempre?	3 You sit enthroned for ever, while we are perishing for ever.
4 Signore onnipotente. Dio di Israele ascolta adesso l'orazione dei morti d'Israele, e de' figliuoli di quegli, i quali peccarono dinanzi a te, e non ascoltarono la voce del Signor Dio loro, onde si attaccarono a noi tutti i mali.	4 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, hear the prayer of the dead of Israel, of the children of those who havesinned against you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God; hence the disasters which dog us.
5 Non ti ricordare delle iniquittà de' padri nostri, ma ricordati di tua possanza, e del nome tuo in questo tempo:	5 Do not cal to mind the misdeeds of our ancestors, but remember instead your power and your name.
6 Perocché tu se' il Signor Dio no tro, e noi ti darem lode, o Signore:	6 You are indeed the Lord our God and we wil praise you, Lord,
7 Conciossiachè per questo tu di timore hai ripieni i nostri cuori, affinchè invochiamo il tuo nome, e ti diamo lode nella nostra cattività; perocché noi abbiamo in odio l'iniquità de' padri nostri, che peccarono dinanzi a te.	7 since you have put respect for you in our hearts to encourage us to cal on your name. We long topraise you in our exile, for we have rid our hearts of the wickedness of our ancestors who sinned against you.
8 Ed ecco che noi siamo oggi nella nostra cattività, dove tu ci hai dispersi ad esser lo scherno, la maledizione, la feccia de' peccatori, secondo tutte la iniquità de' padri nostri, i quali si allontanaron da te, Signore Dio nostro.	8 Look, today we are still in exile where you have scattered us as something contemptible, accursed,condemned, for al the misdeeds of our ancestors who had abandoned the Lord our God.
9 Ascolta, o Israele, i comandamenti di vita: porgi le orecchie ad imparare prudenza.	9 Listen, Israel, to commands that bring life; hear, and learn what knowledge means.
10 Qual è il motivo, o Israele, per cui tu se' in terra nemica.	10 Why, Israel, why are you in the country of your enemies, growing older and older in an alien land,
11 Invecchi in paese straniero, se' contaminato trai morti: se' stato con fuso con quegli, che scendono nell'inferno?	11 defiling yourselves with the dead, reckoned with those who go to Sheol?
12 Tu abbandonasti la fonte della sapienza:	12 It is because you have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!
13 Imperocché se tu per la via di Dio avessi camminato, saresti vissuto in una pace sempiterna.	13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would be living in peace for ever.
14 Impara dove sia la prudenza, dove sia la fortezza, dove sia la intelligenza, affin di sapere a un tempo dove sia la lunghezza della vita, e il nudrimento, dove sia il lume degli occhi, e la pace.	14 Learn where knowledge is, where strength, where understanding, and so learn where length of days is,where life, where the light of the eyes and where peace.
15 Chi trovò la sede di lei? e chi nè tesori di lei penetrò?	15 But who has found out where she lives, who has entered her treasure house?
16 Dove sono i principi delle nazioni, e coloro, che dominano sopra le bestie della terra?	16 Where now are the leaders of the nations and those who ruled even the beasts of earth,
17 Coloro, che scherzano co' volatili del cielo,	17 those who sported with the birds of heaven, those who accumulated silver and gold on which alpeople rely, and whose possessions had no end,
18 Coloro, che tesoreggiano argento, ed oro, in cui confidano gli uomini, né mai finiscono di procacciarsene; color,che lavoran l'argento, e gran pensier se ne danno, e non hanno termine le opere loro?	18 those who worked so carefully in silver -but of whose works no trace is to be found?
19 Furono sterminati, e discesero nell'inferno, ed altri subentraron nel luogo loro.	19 They have vanished, gone down to Sheol. Others have risen to their places,
20 Questi giovani vider la luce, e abitarono sopra la terra, ma non conobber la via della disciplina.	20 more recent generations have seen the day and peopled the earth in their turn, but the way ofknowledge they have not found;
21 E noti ne compresero le direzioni, né i loro figli la abbracciarono: Ella andò lungi da essi.	21 they have not recognised the paths she treads. Nor have their children had any grasp of her, remainingfar from her way.
22 Di lei non si udì parola nella terra di Chanaan, né fu veduta in Theman.	22 Nothing has been heard of her in Canaan, nothing has been seen of her in Teman;
23 I figli ancora di Agar, che cercano la prudeuza, che vien dalla terra, e i negozianti di Merrha, e di Theman, e i favoleggiatori, e discopritori della prudenza, e della intelligenza, la via non conobber della sapienza, né delle direzioni di lei fecer menzione.	23 the children of Hagar in search of worldly wisdom, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the tale-spinners and the philosophers have none of them found the way to wisdom or remembered the paths shetreads.
24 O Israele, quanto è mai grande in casa di Dio, e quanto grande è il luogo del suo dominio!	24 How great, Israel, is the house of God, how wide his domain,
25 Egli è grande, e non ha termine, eccelso, e immenso.	25 immeasurably wide, infinitely lofty!
26 Ivi furono que' giganti famosi, che furon da principio, di statura grande, maestri di guerra.	26 In it were born the giants, famous from the beginning, immensely tal , expert in war;
27 Non iscelse questi il Signore, uè questi trovarono la via della disciplina; per questo perirono.	27 God's choice did not fall on these, he did not show them the way of knowledge;
28 E percbè non ebbero la sapienza, perirono per la loro stoltezza.	28 they perished for lack of wisdom, perished by their own folly.
29 Chi salì al cielo, e ne fece acquisto, e chi dalle nubi la trasse?	29 Who has ever climbed the sky and seized her to bring her down from the clouds?
30 Chi valicò il mare, e trovolla, e la portò a preferenza dell'oro più lino!	30 Who has ever crossed the ocean and found her to bring her back in exchange for the finest gold?
31 Non è chi le vie di lei possa conoscere, né chi gli andamenti di lei comprenda:	31 No one can learn the way to her, no one can understand the path she treads.
32 Ma colui, che tutto sa, ei la conosce, e la discoprì colla sua prudenza: colui, che fondò, la terra per l'eternità, e la riempiè di animali, e di quadrupedi.	32 But the One who knows al discovers her, he has grasped her with his own intel ect, he has set theearth firm for evermore and filled it with four-footed beasts,
33 Colui, che spedisce la luce, ed ella va: e la chiama, e a lui con tremore ubbidisce.	33 he sends the light -- and it goes, he recal s it -- and trembling it obeys;
34 Le stelle diffusero il loro lume nelle loro stazioni, e ne furon liete,	34 the stars shine joyful y at their posts;
35 Chiamate, dissero, eccoci: e con gioia risplenderon per lui, che le creò.	35 when he cal s them, they answer, 'Here we are'; they shine to delight their Creator.
36 Questi è il nostro Dio, e nissun altro sarà messo in paragone con lui.	36 It is he who is our God, no other can compare with him.
37 Questi fu l'inventore della via della disciplina, e insegnolla a Giacobbe mio servo, e ad Israele suo diletto.	37 He has uncovered the whole way of knowledge and shown it to his servant Jacob, to Israel his wel -beloved;
38 Dopo tali cose egli si è veduto sopra la terra, ed ha conversato cogli uomini.	38 only then did she appear on earth and live among human beings.
