1 I figli d'Israele fecero di nuovo del male nel cospetto del Signore, dopo la morte di Aod.	1 Once Ehud was dead, the Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes,
2 E il Signore li diede nelle mani di Iabin, re cananeo che regnava in Asor, ed aveva a capo del suo esercito uno chiamato Sisara, che abitava in Aroset delle genti.	2 and Yahweh handed them over to Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned at Hazor. The commander of hisarmy was Sisera, who lived in Haroshet-ha-Goi m.
3 I figli d'Israele gridarono al Signore, perchè Iabin aveva novecento carri falcati e li opprimeva con violenza già da vent'anni.	3 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh; for Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots and had cruel y oppressedthe Israelites for twenty years.
4 Colei che giudicava il popolo in quel tempo era la profetessa Debora, moglie di Lapidot.	4 Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.

March to Mount Tabor and with you take ten thousand of the sons of Naphtali and thesons of Zebulun.
7 Io poi condurrò a te, nella valle del torrente Cison, Sisara capo dell'esercito di Iabin, i suoi carri e tutta la sua gente, e te li darò nelle mani ».	7 I shall entice Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to encounter you at the Torrent of Kishon with hischariots and troops; and I shal put him into your power"? '
8 E Barac le disse: « Se tu vieni con me, andrò; ma non altrimenti ».	8 Barak replied, 'If you come with me, I shall go; if you will not come, I shal not go, for I do not know howto choose the day when the angel of Yahweh will grant me success.'
9 Debora rispose: « Ebbene, io verrò con te; ma allora non sarà attribuita a te la vittoria, perchè Sisara sarà dato nelle mani di una donna ». E Debora si alzò e andò con Barac in Cedes.	9 'I shall go with you then,' she said, 'but, the way you are going about it, the glory wil not be yours; forYahweh wil deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.' Deborah then stood up and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 Barac, chiamati a sè Zàbulon e Nettali, salì con dieci mila uomini, accompagnato da Debora.	10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali. Ten thousand men marched behind him, and Deborah wentwith him.
11 Or Aber Cineo si era da qualche tempo diviso dagli altri Cinei suoi fratelli, figli di Obab parente di Mosè, ed aveva tese le sue tende fino alla valle detta di Sennini, nei dintorni di Cedes.	11 Heber the Kenite had parted company with the tribe of Kain and with the sons of Hobab, father-in-lawof Moses; he had pitched his tent near the Oak of Zaanannim, not far from Kedesh.
12 Sisara, appena seppe che Barac figlio di Abinoem era salito sul monte Tabor,	12 Sisera was informed that Barak son of Abinoam had encamped on Mount Tabor.
13 adunò i novecento carri falcati e tutto l'esercito da Aroset delle genti al torrente Cison.	13 Sisera summoned all his chariots -- nine hundred iron chariots -- and al the troops he had, fromHarosheth-ha-Goi m to the Torrent of Kishon.
14 Allora Debora disse a Barac: « Alzati: ecco il giorno in cui il Signore dà Sisara nelle tue mani, ecco il Signore stesso è tua guida! » E Barac scese dal Tabor con i dieci mila combattenti,	14 Deborah said to Barak, 'Up! For today is the day when Yahweh has put Sisera into your power. Is notYahweh marching at your head?' And Barak charged down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men behindhim.
15 Il Signore, gettando lo spavento sopra Sisara, sopra i suoi carri e tutta la sua gente, li fe' passare a fìl di spada davanti a Barac, in modo che Sisara, balzato giù dal carro, se ne fuggì a piedi.	15 At Barak's advance, Yahweh struck terror into Sisera, all his chariots and his entire army. Sisera leaptdown from his chariot and fled on foot.
16 Barac inseguì i carri che fuggivano e l'esercito fino ad Aroset delle genti e tutta la turba dei nemici perì fino allo sterminio.	16 Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-ha-Goiim. Sisera's whole army fel bythe edge of the sword; not one man was spared.
17 Or Sisara, fuggendo, arrivò alla tenda di Giaele moglie di Aber Cineo, essendovi pace tra Iabin re di Asor e la casa di Aber Cineo.	17 Sisera meanwhile fled on foot towards the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. For there waspeace between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.
18 Giaele, uscita incontro a Sisara, gli disse: « Entra da me, signor mio, entra, non temere ». Ed egli entrò nella tenda di lei, ove, dopo essere da lei ricoperto con un mantello,	18 Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, 'Stay here, my lord, with me; do not be afraid!' She opened the skin of milk,gave him some to drink and covered him up again.
20 Sisara le disse: « Sta innanzi alla porta della tenda, e se venisse qualcuno a interrogarti e a dire: Vi è forse qualcuno qui? rispondi: Non c'è nessuno ».	20 Then he said to her, 'Stand at the tent door, and if anyone comes and questions you -- if he asks, "Isthere a man here?" say, "No." '
21 Poi Giaele, moglie di Aber, preso il chiodo della tenda e un martello, entrata di nascosto e in silenzio, applicò il chiodo sulla tempia del capo di Sisara e con un colpo di martello lo conficcò nel cervello fino a terra. Sisara, passando dal sonno alla morte' venne meno e morì.	21 But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent-peg and picked up a mallet; she crept up softly to him and drovethe peg into his temple right through to the ground. He was lying fast asleep, worn out; and so he died.
22 Or come arrivò Barac che lo inseguiva, Giaele, uscitagli incontro, gli disse: « Vieni, e ti farò vedere l'uomo che cerchi ». Entrato che fu da lei, vide Sisara che giaceva morto col chiodo fitto nella tempia.	22 And now Barak came up in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to meet him and said, 'Come in, and I wilshow you the man you are looking for.' He went into her tent; and there was Sisera dead, with the tent-pegthrough his temple.
23 In quel giorno Dio umiliò Iabin re di Canaan dinanzi ai figli d'Israele,	23 Thus God that day humbled Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites.
24 Ì quali, divenendo ogni giorno più potenti, appesantirono la mano sopra Iabin re di Canaan fino a distruggerlo completamente.	24 And the Israelites bore down more and more heavily on that king of Canaan, Jabin, until he was utterlydestroyed.
