Giosuè 3

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E Giosuè, alzatosi avanti giorno, levò il campo. Partiti da Setim, egli e tutti i figli d'Israele arrivarono al Giordano,ove si fermarono tre giorni.	1 Early in the morning, Joshua struck camp and set out from Shittim with al the Israelites. They went asfar as the Jordan and there they camped before they crossed.
2 Alla fine dei quali, gli araldi percorsero il campo	2 Three days later, the officials went through the camp
3 a gridare: « Quando vedrete l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore Dio vostro, portata dai sacerdoti della stirpe di Levi, partite anche voi e seguiteli;	3 and gave the people these instructions, 'When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your Godbeing carried by the levitical priests, you wil leave your position and fol ow it,so that you may know which way totake, since you have never gone this way before.
4 ma fra voi e l'arca vi sia un intervallo di duemila cubiti, affinchè possiate vedere dalontano e distinguere la strada per la quale dovete camminare, non essendovi mai passati; e badate di non avvicinarvi all'arca ».	4 Between you and the ark, however, keep a distance of about two thousand cubits: do not go near it.'
5 E Giosuè disse al popolo: « Santificatevi, perchè domani il Signore farà tra voi delle maraviglie ».	5 Joshua said to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves, since tomorrow Yahweh wil work wonders among you.'
6 E disse ai sacerdoti: « Prendete l'arca dell'alleanza e andate innanzi al popolo ». Ed essi, ese guendo gli ordini, la presero e camminarono avanti al popolo.	6 Joshua then said to the priests, 'Take up the ark of the covenant and cross at the head of the people.'They took up the ark of the covenant and moved to the head of the people.
7 E il Signore disse a Giosuè: « Oggi comincierò ad esaltarti dinanzi a tutto Israele, per far conoscere che sono con te come fui con Mosè.	7 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'This very day, I shal begin to make you great in the eyes of al Israel so thatthey will know that, as I was with Moses, so I shal be with you.
8 Ai sacerdoti che portano l'arca dell'alleanza dà quest'ordine: Appena sarete entrati dell'acqua del Giordano, fermatevi dentro l'acqua ».	8 Now, give this order to the priests carrying the ark of the covenant, "When you have reached the brinkof the waters of the Jordan, you must halt in the Jordan itself." '
9 Poi Giosuè disse ai figli d'Israele: « Accostatevi a sentire la parola del Signore Dio vostro ».	9 To the Israelites, Joshua then said, 'Come closer and hear the words of Yahweh your God.'
10 E disse: « Da questo conoscerete che il Signore, il Dio vivente, è in mezzo a voi e disperdederà dinanzi a voi il Cananeo, l'Eteo, l'Eveo, il Ferezeo, il Gergeseo, il Gebuseo, l'Amorreo.	10 Joshua said, 'By this, you are to know that the living God is with you and without a doubt wil expel theCanaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites before you.
11 Ecco, l'arca del Signore di tutta la terra passerà davanti a voi attraverso il Giordano.	11 Look, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth is about to move into the Jordan at yourhead.
12 Preparate dodici uomini fra le tribù d'Israele, uno per tribù.	12 Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe.
13 E quando i sacerdoti, che portan l'arca del Signore Dio di tutta la terra, avran messe le piante dei loro piedi nelle acque del Giordano, le acque che vanno in giù seguiteranno a scorrere e se ne andranno, ma quelle che vengon di sopra si fermeranno ammassate ».	13 As soon as the priests carrying the ark of Yahweh, Lord of the whole earth, have set the soles of theirfeet in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan wil be cut off; the upper waters flowing down wil stopas a single mass.'
14 Or quando il popolo uscì dalle sue tende per passare il Giordano, i sacerdoti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza, camminavano davanti a lui.	14 Accordingly, when the people left their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of thecovenant ahead of the people.
15 E appena essi entrarono nel Giordano e misero piedi nell'acqua (allora il Giordano era pieno fino all'orlo delle ripe, essendo i tempo della messe),	15 As soon as the bearers of the ark reached the Jordan and the feet of the priests carrying the arktouched the waters -- the Jordan is in spate throughout the harvest season-
16 le acque che scendevano di sopra si fermarodo in un sol luogo, e, alzandosi come un monte, apparivano da lontano, dalla città detta Adom fino al luogo di Sartan; e quelli che andavano in giù seguitarono verso il mare del deserto (detto ora dar Morto) e spariron del tutto.	16 the upper waters stood stil and formed a single mass over a great distance, at Adam, the town nearZarethan, while those flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely separated. Thepeople crossed opposite Jericho.
17 Mentre il popolo traversava per andare a Gerico, i sacerdoti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, stavan ritti sopra la terra asciutta nel mezzo del Giordano; e tutto il popolo passò per il letto disseccato.	17 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm on dry ground in mid-Jordan, whileal Israel crossed on dry ground, until the whole nation had completed its crossing of the Jordan.
