BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Disse ancora ai suoi discepoli: C'era un ricco il quale aveva un fattore che fu accusato davanti a lui come dissipatore dei suoi beni.	1 He also said to his disciples, 'There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to himfor being wasteful with his property.
2 Ed egli, chiamatolo, gli disse: Che è mai quello che sento di te? Rendi conto della tua amministrazione, perchè non potrai più tenerla.	2 He called for the man and said, "What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of yourstewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer."
3 E il fattore disse fra sè: E ora, che farò, che il padrone mi leva la fattoria? A zappare non son buono, a limosinare mi vergogno.	3 Then the steward said to himself, "Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I todo? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed.
4 So ben io che farò, affinchè, levata che mi sia la fattoria, ci sia chi mi riceva in casa sua.	4 Ah, I know what I wil do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some towelcome me into their homes."
5 Chiamati pertanto ad uno ad uno i debitori del padrone, disse al 'primo: Tu quanto devi al mio padrone?	5 'Then he called his master's debtors one by one. To the first he said, "How much do you owe mymaster?"
6 E quello rispose: Cento barili d'olio. Ed egli: Prendi la tua scritta, siedi presto, e scrivi cinquanta.	6 "One hundred measures of oil," he said. The steward said, "Here, take your bond; sit down and quickly write fifty."
7 Poi chiese ad un altro: E tu quanto devi? E quello: Cento staia di grano. Gli dice: Prendi la tua carta, e scrivi ottanta.	7 To another he said, "And you, sir, how much do you owe?" "One hundred measures of wheat," hesaid. The steward said, "Here, take your bond and write eighty."
8 E il padrone lodò il fattore infedele, perchè aveva agito con accortezza; chè i figli di questo secolo sono, nel loro genere, più avveduti dei figli della luce.	8 'The master praised the dishonest steward for his astuteness. For the children of this world are moreastute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.'
9 Ed io vi dico: fatevi degli amici colle ricchezze ingiuste: affinchè quando veniate a mancare, quelli vi ricevano nelle tende eterne.	9 'And so I tel you this: use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when itfails you, they wil welcome you into eternal dwel ings.
10 Chi è fedele nel poco è fedele anche nel molto; e chi è ingiusto nel poco è ingiusto anche nel molto.	10 Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in littlethings is dishonest in great.
11 Se dunque non foste fedeli nelle ricchezze ingiuste chi vi fiderà le vere?	11 If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who wil trust you with genuine riches?
12 E se non siete stati fedeli nell'altrui, chi vi darà il vostro?	12 And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?
13 Nessun servo può servire a due padroni; che, o ne odierà uno e amerà l'altro, o si affezionerà al primo e disprezzerà il secondo. Non potete servire a Dio e a Mammona.	13 'No servant can be the slave of two masters: he wil either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.'
14 Ma i Farisei, che erano avari, ascoltando tutte queste cose, lo schernivano.	14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and jeered at him.
15 Ed egli disse loro: Voi siete di quelli che si mostrano giusti davanti agli uomini, ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori; e ciò che è grande secondo gli uomini è abominevole davanti a Dio.	15 He said to them, 'You are the very ones who pass yourselves off as upright in people's sight, but Godknows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed in human eyes is loathsome in the sight of God.
16 La legge e i profeti fino a Giovanni; d'allora in poi vien predicato lì regno di Dio, od ognuno si sforza d'entrarvi.	16 'Up to the time of John it was the Law and the Prophets; from then onwards, the kingdom of God hasbeen preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.
17 E' più facile che cielo e terra spariscano, piuttosto che cada un sol apice della legge.	17 'It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one little stroke to drop out of the Law.
18 Chi rimanda la propria maglio o ne sposa un'altra è adultero, o chi sposa una rimandata dal marito è adultero.	18 'Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery, and the man who marries awoman divorced by her husband commits adultery.
19 C'era un uomo ricco, il quale vestiva porpora e bisso e tutti i giorni banchettava splendidamente.	19 'There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day.
20 E c'era un mendico, chiamato Lazzaro, il quale, pieno di piaghe, giaceva all'uscio di lui,	20 And at his gate there used to lie a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores,
21 bramoso di sfamarsi colle briciole che cadevano dalla tavola del ricco, ma, nessuno gliele dava: venivano invece i cani a leccare le sue piaghe.	21 who longed to fil himself with what fel from the rich man's table. Even dogs came and licked hissores.
22 Or avvenne che il mendico morì, e fu portato dagli Angeli nel seno di Abramo. Morì anche il ricco e fu sepolto nell'inferno.	22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels into Abraham'sembrace. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 Allora alzando gli occhi, mentre era nei tormenti, egli vide lontano Àbramo, e Lazzaro nel suo seno.	23 'In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his embrace.
24 E disse, gridando: Padre Abramo, abbi pietà di me e manda Lazzaro a bagnar la punta del suo dito nell'acqua, per rinfrescarmi la lingua, perchè io spasimo in questa fiamma.	24 So he cried out, "Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water andcool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames."
25 Ma Abramo gli disse: Figliolo, ricordati che tu avesti i beni in vita, mentre Lazzaro allora ebbe dei mali: e quindi ora lui è consolato e tu soffri.	25 Abraham said, "My son, remember that during your life you had your fill of good things, just asLazarus his fill of bad. Now he is being comforted here while you are in agony.
26 E poi, tra noi e voi c'è un grande abisso, tale che quelli che vogliono di qui passare a voi non possono, nè di costà a noi possono valicare.	26 But that is not al : between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, to prevent those who want tocross from our side to yours or from your side to ours."
27 E quelle replicò: Allora, o padre, ti prego, che tu lo mandi a casa del padre mio,	27 'So he said, "Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father's house,
28 chè ho cinque fratelli, affinchè li avverta di queste cose e non vengano anoh'essi in questo luogo di tormenti.	28 since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too."
29 E Abramo gli rispose: Hanno Mosè ed i profeti: ascoltino quelli.	29 Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets, let them listen to them."
30 Replicò l'altro: No, padre Abramo, ma se un morto va da loro si ravvederanno.	30 The rich man replied, "Ah no, father Abraham, but if someone comes to them from the dead, they willrepent."
31 Ma Abramo gli rispose: Se non ascoltano Mosè ed i profeti, non crederanno nemmeno se uno risuscitasse dai morti.	31 Then Abraham said to him, "If they wil not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they wil not beconvinced even if someone should rise from the dead."
