BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E Balaam vedendo esser grato al signore che egli benedicesse Israele, non andò come pel passato a cercare l‘augurio: ma volse la sua faccia al deserto.	1 Balaam then saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel. He did not go as before to seek omens butturned towards the desert.
2 e, alzati gli occhi, vidi Israele nelle tende accampato per tribù, e, venutogli addosso lo spirito di Dio, presa la parabola, disse:	2 Raising his eyes Balaam saw Israel settled tribe by tribe; the spirit of God came on him
3 « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor, parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso,	3 and he declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
4 parola di colui che ode la parola di Dio, che contempla la visione dell'Onnipotente, che cade e gli si aprono gli occhi:	4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receivesthe divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
5 quanto son belli i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe, e le tue tende, o Israele!	5 How fair your tents are, Jacob, how fair your dwel ings, Israel,
6 Sono come valli selvose, come giardini in riva ad un fiume, come Tabernacolo piantato dal Signore, come cedri lungo le acque.	6 like val eys that stretch afar, like gardens by the banks of a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, likecedars beside the waters!
7 L'acqua traboccherà dalla sua secchia, la sua semenza, avrà abbondanza di acque, il suo re sarà rigettato a causa d'Agag, e sarà tolto il suo regno.	7 A hero arises from their stock, he reigns over countless peoples. His king is greater than Agag, andhis kingship held in honour.
8 Dio lo ha, tratto fuori dall'Egitto, e la sua forza è come quella del rinoceront. Divorerà le genti sue nemiche, spezzerà le loro ossa, le trafiggerà colle frecci	8 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him. He devours the corpses of hisenemies, breaking their bones, piercing them with his arrows.
9 si sdraia e dorme come un leone e come una leonessa che nessuno oserà svegliare. Chi ti benedirà sarà benedetto e compreso nella maledizione chi ti maledirà ».	9 He has crouched, he has lain down, like a lion, like a lioness; who dare rouse him? Blessed be thosewho bless you, and accursed be those who curse you!
10 Ma Balac, sdegnatosi contro Balam, disse, battendo le mani: « Ti ho chiamato a maledire i miei nemici, e tu invece li hai benedetti tre volte!	10 Balak flew into a rage with Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to Balaam, 'I brought youto curse my enemies, and you have insisted on blessing them three times over!
11 Torna casa tua. M'ero proposto di colmarti d'onori; ma il Signore ti ha privato dei preparati onori ».	11 So now go home as fast as your legs can carry you. I promised to load you with honours. Yahwehhimself has deprived you of them.'
12 Balaam rispose a Balac: « E non lo dissi ai messaggeri che mi mandasti:	12 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel the messengers you sent me,
13 Quand'anche mi desse Balac la sua casa piena d'argento e d'oro, non potrei trasgredire l'ordine del Signore Dio mio, per far di mia testa qualche cosa di bene o di male; ma dirò tutto quello che avrà detto il Signore?	13 "Even if Balak gave me his house ful of gold and silver I could not go against Yahweh's order anddo anything of my own accord, whether for good or il ; whatever Yahweh says is what I shal say"?
14 Ebbene, torno al mio popolo; ma avanti ti darò un consiglio su ciò che il tuo popolo deve fare a questo popolo negli ultimi tempi ».	14 Now that I am going back to my own folk, let me warn you what this people wil do to your people, indays to come.'
15 Presa adunque la parabola di nuovo, disse: « Parola di Balaam figlio di Beor; parola dell'uomo dall'occhio chiuso;	15 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
16 parola di colui che ode le parole di Dio, che conosce la dottrina dell'Altissimo, e contempla le visioni dell'Onnipotente, che cadendo ha gli occhi aperti.	16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, of one who knows the knowledge of the MostHigh. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receives the divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
17 Io lo vedrò, ma non ora: lo contemplerò, ma non da vicino: UNA STELLA NÀSCERÀ da Giacobbe, e una verga si leverà da Israele, e percuoterà i capi di Moab, e rovinerà tutti i figli di Set.	17 I see him -- but not in the present. I perceive him -- but not close at hand: a star is emerging fromJacob, a sceptre is rising from Israel, to strike the brow of Moab, the skul s of al the children of Seth.
18 E l'Idumea sarà suo possesso, l'eredità di Seir pas? serà ai suoi nemici, ma Israele agirà con fortezza.	18 Edom too wil be a conquered land, Seir too wil be a conquered land, when Israel exerts hisstrength,
19 Da Giacobbe uscirà il dominatore che sterminerà gli avanzi della città ».	19 when Jacob tramples on his enemies and destroys the last survivors of Ar.
20 E avendo visto Amalec, prese la parabola e disse: « Amalec è la prima delle nazioni; ma finirà collo sterminio ».	20 Balaam then looked at Amalek and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Amalek, the earliest of nations!But his posterity wil perish forever.
21 E visto anche il Cineo, prese la parabola e disse: « La tua dimora è veramente solida, ma sebbene tu abbia posto il tuo nido nella, rupe asia stato l'eletto della stirpe di Cin, quanto tempo potrai sussistere? Assur ti prenderà ».	21 He then looked at the Kenites and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Your dwel ing was firm, Kain,your nest perched high in the rock.
22 E presa la parabola, disse ancora: « Ahi! chi sarà vivo quando Dio farà queste cose? sverranno sulle triremi dall'Italia: vinceranno gli Assiri, devasteranno gli Ebrei, e alla fine periranno anch'essi ».	22 But the nest belongs to Beor; how long wil you be Asshur's captive?
23 E Balaam si alzò e tornò a casa sua; ed anche Balac se ne andò per la strada per cui era venuto.	23 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The Sea-people are gathering in the north,
	24 the vessels from the coasts of Kittim. They wil bear down on Asshur, bear down on Eber; he too willperish forever.
	25 Balaam then got up, left and went home, and Balak too went his way.
