1 - Io già feci, o Teofilo, la prima narrazione di tutto quel che Gesù prese a fare e a insegnare,	1 In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught
2 sino al giorno che fu assunto, dopo aver dato per mezzo dello Spirito Santo i suoi ordini agli apostoli che aveva eletti.	2 until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
3 A' quali Egli, dopo la sua passione, si diè a veder vivo con prove manifeste della sua risurrezione, apparendo ad essi durante quaranta giorni, e ragionando del regno di Dio.	3 He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
4 Quando si trovava con essi, comandò loro di non allontanarsi da Gerusalemme, ma d'aspettarvi la promessa dal Padre; - della quale (disse) m'avete udito parlare.	4 While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak;
5 Sì, Giovanni battezzò con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati con lo Spirito Santo, di qui a non molti giorni. -	5 for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy Spirit."
6 Quelli poi si dettero a domandargli: «Signore, è questo il tempo che ristabilirai il regno d'Israele?».	6 When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
7 Egli rispose: «Non sta a voi di sapere i tempi e i momenti; il Padre li ha serbati nella sua potestà:	7 He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.
8 ma voi riceverete forza di Spirito Santo, quando verrà su di voi; e mi sarete testimoni in Gerusalemme, e in tutta la Giudea e la Samaria, e fino alle estremità della terra».	8 But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
9 E, detto questo, mentr'essi guardavano, si levò in alto, e una nuvola lo nascose agli occhi loro.	9 When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.
10 E come essi avevano ancora gli occhi fissi in cielo mentr'egli se ne andava, ecco due uomini in bianche vesti presentarsi,	10 While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them.
11 e dire: «Uomini di Galilea, che cosa state riguardando in cielo? Questo Gesù, che è stato assunto in cielo di mezzo a voi, verrà nella medesima maniera che lo avete visto andare al cielo».	11 They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."
12 Allora essi tornarono a Gerusalemme dal monte che si chiama dell'Uliveto, il quale è vicino a Gerusalemme e ne dista il cammino di un sabato.	12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day's journey away.
13 Entrati che furono in città, salirono nella stanza superiore della casa ove solevano ritrovarsi. C'erano Pietro e Giovanni, Giacomo e Andrea, Filippo e Tommaso, Bartolomeo e Matteo, Giacomo d'Alfeo, Simone Zelota, e Giuda di Giacomo.	13 When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
14 Tutti questi perseveravano concordi nella preghiera, assieme con le donne, e con Maria, madre di Gesù, e coi fratelli di lui.	14 All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
15 E in que' giorni, levatosi Pietro in mezzo a' fratelli (il numero delle persone adunate era di circa centoventi), disse:	15 During those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers (there was a group of about one hundred and twenty persons in the one place). He said,
16 «Fratelli; bisognava s'adempisse quel che lo Spirito Santo aveva predetto nella Scrittura per bocca di David, intorno a Giuda, il guidatore di quelli che presero Gesù.	16 "My brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled which the holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus.
17 Egli era de' nostri, egli aveva ricevuto la sorte dello stesso nostro ministero.	17 He was numbered among us and was allotted a share in this ministry.
18 Egli acquistò sì un campo, ma col salario della sua iniquità; e, impiccatosi, crepò per mezzo e si sparsero tutte le sue viscere.	18 He bought a parcel of land with the wages of his iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle, and all his insides spilled out.
19 La cosa è risaputa da tutti in Gerusalemme, per modo che quel campo fu chiamato nella loro lingua "Aceldama", cioè "Campo di sangue".	19 This became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem, so that the parcel of land was called in their language 'Akeldama,' that is, Field of Blood.
20 Ora sta scritto nel libro de' Salmi: "Divenga la sua abitazione deserta, nè ci sia chi abiti in essa; e l'ufficio di lui lo prenda un altro".	20 For it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'Let his encampment become desolate, and may no one dwell in it.' And: 'May another take his office.'
21 Bisogna dunque che di questi uomini che sono stati con noi per tutto il tempo che il Signore Gesù è andato e venuto tra noi,	21 Therefore, it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and went among us,
22 a cominciare dal battesimo di Giovanni fino al giorno in cui è stato assunto d'in mezzo a noi, uno di questi diventi con noi testimone della risurrezione di lui».	22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection."
23 Ne furon proposti due: Giuseppe, detto Barsaba, soprannominato il Giusto, e Mattia.	23 So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.
24 E nel pregare dissero: «Tu, Signore, che conosci il cuore di tutti, mostra quale di questi due tu hai scelto	24 Then they prayed, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen
25 per ricevere in questo ministero e apostolato il posto da cui traviò Giuda per andare al luogo suo».	25 to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place."
26 E li tirarono a sorte; e la sorte cadde su Mattia, che fu aggregato agli undici apostoli.	26 Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles.
