BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - L'anno ventesimo terzo di Joas figlio di Ocozia, re di Giuda, regnò Joacaz figlio di Jeu sopra Israele in Samaria per diciassette anni.	1 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king ofIsrael in Samaria. He reigned for seventeen years.
2 E fece il male al cospetto del Signore e seguì i peccati di Geroboamo figliuolo di Nabat, e fece prevaricare Israele e non se ne ritrasse.	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and copied the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had ledIsrael; he did not give it up.
3 Perciò lo sdegno del Signore s'accese contro Israele e lo abbandonò nelle mani di Azael, re di Siria, e in quelle di Benadad figlio di Azael, per tutto quel tempo.	3 This aroused Yahweh's anger against the Israelites, and he delivered them without respite into thepower of Hazael king of Aram and of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael.
4 Joacaz allora implorò il Signore e il Signore lo esaudì, poichè vide l'oppressione sotto la quale il re di Siria teneva Israele.	4 Jehoahaz, however, tried to placate Yahweh, and Yahweh heard him, for he had seen the oppressionwhich the king of Aram was inflicting on Israel.
5 E il Signore mandò un salvatore a Israele, e questi fu liberato dalle mani del re di Siria; e i figli di Israele abitarono nelle loro tende, come per l'addietro.	5 Yahweh gave Israel a saviour who freed them from the grip of Aram, and the Israelites lived in theirtents as in the past.
6 Ma non si allontanarono però dai peccati della casa di Geroboamo che aveva fatto peccare Israele, ma vi persistettero, tantochè anche in Samaria si continuò ad avere un bosco consacrato.	6 But they did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam had led Israel; they persisted in it, and even thesacred pole stayed standing in Samaria.
7 Di tutto l'esercito non erano rimasti a Joacaz che cinquanta cavalieri, dieci carri e diecimila pedoni, perchè il re di Siria li aveva distrutti e li aveva ridotti come la polvere dell'aia, quando si batte il grano.	7 Of Jehoahaz's army Yahweh left only fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers. Theking of Aram had destroyed them, making them like dust trampled under foot.
8 Il resto delle azioni di Joacaz e tutto ciò che fece, e le sue imprese, non furono scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?	8 The rest of the history of Jehoahaz, his entire career, his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?
9 Joacaz poi dormì co' suoi padri e fu sepolto in Samaria e regnò Joas suo figlio in luogo di lui.	9 Then Jehoahaz fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria; his son Joash succeededhim.
10 Nell'anno trentesimo settimo di Joas, re di Giuda, salì sul trono d'Israele in Samaria Joas, figlio di Joacaz e vi restò sedici anni;	10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel inSamaria. He reigned for sixteen years.
11 egli fece il male al cospetto del Signore, e non si ritrasse da alcuno dei peccati di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, che fece peccare Israele, ma camminò in essi.	11 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, he did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebathad led Israel; he persisted in it.
12 Il resto delle azioni di Joas e tutto quello che fece e le sue imprese e il modo col quale combattè contro Amasia, re di Giuda, non è stato forse scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?	12 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah king ofJudah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?
13 E Joas si addormentò co' suoi padri, mentre Geroboamo si assise sul trono. Joas fu poi sepolto in Samaria coi re d'Israele.	13 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and Jeroboam ascended his throne. Joash was buried inSamaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Eliseo era infermo della malattia per la quale morì. Venne a lui Joas, re di Israele, e piangendo al suo cospetto diceva: «Padre mio, padre mio, carro d'Israele e suo condottiero!».	14 When Elisha had fal en il of the il ness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to himand shedding tears over him said, 'Father! Father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!'
15 Eliseo gli disse: «Portami un arco e delle frecce». Essendogli stato portato un arco e delle frecce,	15 Elisha said to him, 'Bring bow and arrows,' and he sent for a bow and arrows.
16 disse al re d'Israele: «Metti la mano sopra l'arco». E quando il re vi ebbe posta la mano, Eliseo pose le sue mani su quella del re	16 Then Elisha said to the king, 'Draw the bow,' and he drew it. Elisha put his hands over the hands ofthe king,
17 e disse: «Apri la finestra a levante». Avendola egli aperta, Eliseo disse: «Tira una freccia», ed egli tirò. Soggiunse Eliseo: «È la freccia della salvezza del Signore, e la freccia della salvezza contro la Siria. Tu batterai la Siria in Afec fino allo sterminio»;	17 then he said, 'Open the window towards the east,' and he opened it. Then Elisha said, 'Shoot!' And heshot. Elisha said, 'Arrow of victory over Aram! You wil defeat Aram at Aphek-completely.'
18 poi soggiunse: «Prendi altre saette». E avendole prese, Eliseo disse al re d'Israele: «Batti con una contro terra». E avendo percosso tre volte il suolo, si fermò,	18 Elisha said, 'Take the arrows,' and he took them. Then he said to the king, 'Strike the ground,' and hestruck it three times, then stopped.
19 onde adirato l'uomo di Dio contro di lui gli disse: «Se tu avessi percosso la terra cinque o sei o sette volte, tu avresti percosso la Siria fino allo sterminio, mentre ora non la vincerai che tre volte».	19 At this the man of God grew angry with him. 'You should have struck half a dozen times,' he said, 'andyou would have beaten Aram completely; now you wil beat Aram only three times.'
20 Eliseo morì e venne sepolto. L'anno stesso, dei predoni di Moab penetrarono nel paese.	20 Elisha died and was buried. Bands of Moabites were making incursions into the country every year.
21 Alcuni che portavano a seppellire videro i predoni, e gettarono il cadavere nel sepolcro di Eliseo. Come il cadavere ebbe toccate le ossa di Eliseo, il morto rivisse e si levò in piedi.	21 Some people happened to be carrying a man out for burial; at the sight of one of these bands, theyflung the man into the tomb of Elisha and made off. The man had no sooner touched the bones of Elisha than hecame to life and stood up on his feet.
22 Azael, re di Siria, adunque oppresse i figli di Israele durante tutto il tempo della vita di Joacaz;	22 Hazael king of Aram had oppressed the Israelites throughout the lifetime of Jehoahaz,
23 e il Signore ebbe alfine misericordia di essi e si rivolse a loro, memore del suo patto contratto con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe e non li volle disperdere nè fino al presente rigettare dalla sua faccia.	23 but Yahweh was kind and took pity on them. Because of the covenant which he had made withAbraham, Isaac and Jacob, he relented towards them; he had no wish to destroy them, he did not cast them outof his presence.
24 Morì poi Azael, re di Siria, e regnò in sua vece Benadad suo figliuolo.	24 Hazael king of Aram died, and his son Ben-Hadad succeeded him.
25 Ora Joas figlio di Joacaz tolse dalle mani di Benadad figlio di Azael le città che erano state tolte dalle mani di Joacaz, padre suo, durante la guerra. Joas lo battè tre volte e riebbe le città d'Israele.	25 From Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured the towns which Hazael hadseized from his father Jehoahaz by force of arms. Joash defeated him three times and recovered the Israelitetowns.
