1 Paolo, chiamato a essere apostolo di Cristo Gesù per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Sòstene,	1 Paul, cal ed by the wil of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and Sosthenes, our brother,
2 alla Chiesa di Dio che è a Corinto, a coloro che sono stati santificati in Cristo Gesù, santi per chiamata, insieme a tutti quelli che in ogni luogo invocano il nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, Signore nostro e loro:	2 to the church of God in Corinth, to those who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and cal ed to beGod's holy people, with al those everywhere who cal on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord as wel asours.
3 grazia a voi e pace da Dio Padre nostro e dal Signore Gesù Cristo!	3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Rendo grazie continuamente al mio Dio per voi, a motivo della grazia di Dio che vi è stata data in Cristo Gesù,	4 I am continual y thanking God about you, for the grace of God which you have been given in ChristJesus;
5 perché in lui siete stati arricchiti di tutti i doni, quelli della parola e quelli della conoscenza.	5 in him you have been richly endowed in every kind of utterance and knowledge;
6 La testimonianza di Cristo si è stabilita tra voi così saldamente	6 so firmly has witness to Christ taken root in you.
7 che non manca più alcun carisma a voi, che aspettate la manifestazione del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	7 And so you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed;
8 Egli vi renderà saldi sino alla fine, irreprensibili nel giorno del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	8 he will continue to give you strength till the very end, so that you will be irreproachable on the Day ofour Lord Jesus Christ.
9 Degno di fede è Dio, dal quale siete stati chiamati alla comunione con il Figlio suo Gesù Cristo, Signore nostro!	9 You can rely on God, who has called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Vi esorto pertanto, fratelli, per il nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, a essere tutti unanimi nel parlare, perché non vi siano divisioni tra voi, ma siate in perfetta unione di pensiero e di sentire.	10 Brothers, I urge you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to have factions among yourselves butal to be in agreement in what you profess; so that you are perfectly united in your beliefs and judgements.
11 Infatti a vostro riguardo, fratelli, mi è stato segnalato dai familiari di Cloe che tra voi vi sono discordie.	11 From what Chloe's people have been telling me about you, brothers, it is clear that there are seriousdifferences among you.
12 Mi riferisco al fatto che ciascuno di voi dice: «Io sono di Paolo», «Io invece sono di Apollo», «Io invece di Cefa», «E io di Cristo».	12 What I mean is this: every one of you is declaring, 'I belong to Paul,' or 'I belong to Apollos,' or 'Ibelong to Cephas,' or 'I belong to Christ.'
13 È forse diviso il Cristo? Paolo è stato forse crocifisso per voi? O siete stati battezzati nel nome di Paolo?	13 Has Christ been split up? Was it Paul that was crucified for you, or was it in Paul's name that you werebaptised?
14 Ringrazio Dio di non avere battezzato nessuno di voi, eccetto Crispo e Gaio,	14 I am thankful I did not baptise any of you, except Crispus and Gaius,
15 perché nessuno possa dire che siete stati battezzati nel mio nome.	15 so that no one can say that you were baptised in my name.
16 Ho battezzato, è vero, anche la famiglia di Stefanàs, ma degli altri non so se io abbia battezzato qualcuno.	16 Yes, I did baptise the family of Stephanas, too; but besides these I do not think I baptised anyone.
17 Cristo infatti non mi ha mandato a battezzare, ma ad annunciare il Vangelo, non con sapienza di parola, perché non venga resa vana la croce di Cristo.	17 After al , Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel; and not by means of wisdom oflanguage, wise words which would make the cross of Christ pointless.
18 La parola della croce infatti è stoltezza per quelli che si perdono, ma per quelli che si salvano, ossia per noi, è potenza di Dio.	18 The message of the cross is fol y for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are onthe road to salvation it is the power of God.
19 Sta scritto infatti: Distruggerò la sapienza dei sapienti e annullerò l’intelligenza degli intelligenti.	19 As scripture says: I am going to destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing theunderstanding of any who understand.
20 Dov’è il sapiente? Dov’è il dotto? Dov’è il sottile ragionatore di questo mondo? Dio non ha forse dimostrato stolta la sapienza del mondo?	20 Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do younot see how God has shown up human wisdom as fol y?
21 Poiché infatti, nel disegno sapiente di Dio, il mondo, con tutta la sua sapienza, non ha conosciuto Dio, è piaciuto a Dio salvare i credenti con la stoltezza della predicazione.	21 Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's ownpleasure to save believers through the fol y of the gospel.
22 Mentre i Giudei chiedono segni e i Greci cercano sapienza,	22 While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,
23 noi invece annunciamo Cristo crocifisso: scandalo per i Giudei e stoltezza per i pagani;	23 we are preaching a crucified Christ: to the Jews an obstacle they cannot get over, to the gentilesfoolishness,
24 ma per coloro che sono chiamati, sia Giudei che Greci, Cristo è potenza di Dio e sapienza di Dio.	24 but to those who have been cal ed, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is both the powerof God and the wisdom of God.
25 Infatti ciò che è stoltezza di Dio è più sapiente degli uomini, e ciò che è debolezza di Dio è più forte degli uomini.	25 God's fol y is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
26 Considerate infatti la vostra chiamata, fratelli: non ci sono fra voi molti sapienti dal punto di vista umano, né molti potenti, né molti nobili.	26 Consider, brothers, how you were cal ed; not many of you are wise by human standards, not manyinfluential, not many from noble families.
27 Ma quello che è stolto per il mondo, Dio lo ha scelto per confondere i sapienti; quello che è debole per il mondo, Dio lo ha scelto per confondere i forti;	27 No, God chose those who by human standards are fools to shame the wise; he chose those who byhuman standards are weak to shame the strong,
28 quello che è ignobile e disprezzato per il mondo, quello che è nulla, Dio lo ha scelto per ridurre al nulla le cose che sono,	28 those who by human standards are common and contemptible -- indeed those who count for nothing-- to reduce to nothing al those that do count for something,
29 perché nessuno possa vantarsi di fronte a Dio.	29 so that no human being might feel boastful before God.
30 Grazie a lui voi siete in Cristo Gesù, il quale per noi è diventato sapienza per opera di Dio, giustizia, santificazione e redenzione,	30 It is by him that you exist in Christ Jesus, who for us was made wisdom from God, and saving justiceand holiness and redemption.
31 perché, come sta scritto, chi si vanta, si vanti nel Signore.	31 As scripture says: If anyone wants to boast, let him boast of the Lord.
