1 Il primo giorno della settimana, Maria di Màgdala si recò al sepolcro di mattino, quando era ancora buio, e vide che la pietra era stata tolta dal sepolcro.	1 It was very early on the first day of the week and stil dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb.She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb
2 Corse allora e andò da Simon Pietro e dall’altro discepolo, quello che Gesù amava, e disse loro: «Hanno portato via il Signore dal sepolcro e non sappiamo dove l’hanno posto!».	2 and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. 'They have takenthe Lord out of the tomb,' she said, 'and we don't know where they have put him.'
3 Pietro allora uscì insieme all’altro discepolo e si recarono al sepolcro.	3 So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb.
4 Correvano insieme tutti e due, ma l’altro discepolo corse più veloce di Pietro e giunse per primo al sepolcro.	4 They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first;
5 Si chinò, vide i teli posati là, ma non entrò.	5 he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in.
6 Giunse intanto anche Simon Pietro, che lo seguiva, ed entrò nel sepolcro e osservò i teli posati là,	6 Simon Peter, fol owing him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying on the ground
7 e il sudario – che era stato sul suo capo – non posato là con i teli, ma avvolto in un luogo a parte.	7 and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in aplace by itself.
8 Allora entrò anche l’altro discepolo, che era giunto per primo al sepolcro, e vide e credette.	8 Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed.
9 Infatti non avevano ancora compreso la Scrittura, che cioè egli doveva risorgere dai morti.	9 Til this moment they had stil not understood the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
10 I discepoli perciò se ne tornarono di nuovo a casa.	10 The disciples then went back home.
11 Maria invece stava all’esterno, vicino al sepolcro, e piangeva. Mentre piangeva, si chinò verso il sepolcro	11 But Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, as she wept, she stooped to lookinside,
12 e vide due angeli in bianche vesti, seduti l’uno dalla parte del capo e l’altro dei piedi, dove era stato posto il corpo di Gesù.	12 and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other atthe feet.
13 Ed essi le dissero: «Donna, perché piangi?». Rispose loro: «Hanno portato via il mio Signore e non so dove l’hanno posto».	13 They said, 'Woman, why are you weeping?' 'They have taken my Lord away,' she replied, 'and I don'tknow where they have put him.'
14 Detto questo, si voltò indietro e vide Gesù, in piedi; ma non sapeva che fosse Gesù.	14 As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise that itwas Jesus.
15 Le disse Gesù: «Donna, perché piangi? Chi cerchi?». Ella, pensando che fosse il custode del giardino, gli disse: «Signore, se l’hai portato via tu, dimmi dove l’hai posto e io andrò a prenderlo».	15 Jesus said to her, 'Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?' Supposing him to be thegardener, she said, 'Sir, if you have taken him away, tel me where you have put him, and I will go and removehim.'
16 Gesù le disse: «Maria!». Ella si voltò e gli disse in ebraico: «Rabbunì!» – che significa: «Maestro!».	16 Jesus said, 'Mary!' She turned round then and said to him in Hebrew, 'Rabbuni!' -- which meansMaster.
17 Gesù le disse: «Non mi trattenere, perché non sono ancora salito al Padre; ma va’ dai miei fratelli e di’ loro: “Salgo al Padre mio e Padre vostro, Dio mio e Dio vostro”».	17 Jesus said to her, 'Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to thebrothers, and tell them: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'
18 Maria di Màgdala andò ad annunciare ai discepoli: «Ho visto il Signore!» e ciò che le aveva detto.	18 So Mary of Magdala told the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord,' and that he had said these things toher.
19 La sera di quel giorno, il primo della settimana, mentre erano chiuse le porte del luogo dove si trovavano i discepoli per timore dei Giudei, venne Gesù, stette in mezzo e disse loro: «Pace a voi!».	19 In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room wherethe disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be withyou,'
20 Detto questo, mostrò loro le mani e il fianco. E i discepoli gioirono al vedere il Signore.	20 and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy atseeing the Lord,
21 Gesù disse loro di nuovo: «Pace a voi! Come il Padre ha mandato me, anche io mando voi».	21 and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you. 'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.'
22 Detto questo, soffiò e disse loro: «Ricevete lo Spirito Santo.	22 After saying this he breathed on them and said: Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 A coloro a cui perdonerete i peccati, saranno perdonati; a coloro a cui non perdonerete, non saranno perdonati».	23 If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained.
24 Tommaso, uno dei Dodici, chiamato Dìdimo, non era con loro quando venne Gesù.	24 Thomas, cal ed the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 Gli dicevano gli altri discepoli: «Abbiamo visto il Signore!». Ma egli disse loro: «Se non vedo nelle sue mani il segno dei chiodi e non metto il mio dito nel segno dei chiodi e non metto la mia mano nel suo fianco, io non credo».	25 So the other disciples said to him, 'We have seen the Lord,' but he answered, 'Unless I can see theholes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put myhand into his side, I refuse to believe.'
26 Otto giorni dopo i discepoli erano di nuovo in casa e c’era con loro anche Tommaso. Venne Gesù, a porte chiuse, stette in mezzo e disse: «Pace a voi!».	26 Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors wereclosed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said.
27 Poi disse a Tommaso: «Metti qui il tuo dito e guarda le mie mani; tendi la tua mano e mettila nel mio fianco; e non essere incredulo, ma credente!».	27 Then he spoke to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put itinto my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.'
28 Gli rispose Tommaso: «Mio Signore e mio Dio!».	28 Thomas replied, 'My Lord and my God!'
29 Gesù gli disse: «Perché mi hai veduto, tu hai creduto; beati quelli che non hanno visto e hanno creduto!».	29 Jesus said to him: You believe because you can see me. Blessed are those who have not seen andyet believe.
30 Gesù, in presenza dei suoi discepoli, fece molti altri segni che non sono stati scritti in questo libro.	30 There were many other signs that Jesus worked in the sight of the disciples, but they are notrecorded in this book.
31 Ma questi sono stati scritti perché crediate che Gesù è il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio, e perché, credendo, abbiate la vita nel suo nome.	31 These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and thatbelieving this you may have life through his name.
