BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ora tutta la comunità degli Israeliti arrivò al deserto di Sin il primo mese, e il popolo si fermò a Kades. Qui morì e fu sepolta Maria.	1 The Israelites, the whole community, arrived in the first month at the desert of Zin. The people settledat Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
2 Mancava l’acqua per la comunità: ci fu un assembramento contro Mosè e contro Aronne.	2 There was no water for the community, so they banded together against Moses and Aaron.
3 Il popolo ebbe una lite con Mosè, dicendo: «Magari fossimo morti quando morirono i nostri fratelli davanti al Signore!	3 The people laid the blame on Moses. 'We would rather have died', they said, 'as our brothers diedbefore Yahweh!
4 Perché avete condotto l’assemblea del Signore in questo deserto per far morire noi e il nostro bestiame?	4 Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this desert, for us and our livestock to die here?
5 E perché ci avete fatto uscire dall’Egitto per condurci in questo luogo inospitale? Non è un luogo dove si possa seminare, non ci sono fichi, non vigne, non melograni, e non c’è acqua da bere».	5 Why did you lead us out of Egypt, only to bring us to this wretched place? It is a place unfit forsowing, it has no figs, no vines, no pomegranates, and there is not even water to drink!'
6 Allora Mosè e Aronne si allontanarono dall’assemblea per recarsi all’ingresso della tenda del convegno; si prostrarono con la faccia a terra e la gloria del Signore apparve loro.	6 Leaving the assembly, Moses and Aaron went to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. They threwthemselves on their faces, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.
7 Il Signore parlò a Mosè dicendo:	7 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
8 «Prendi il bastone; tu e tuo fratello Aronne convocate la comunità e parlate alla roccia sotto i loro occhi, ed essa darà la sua acqua; tu farai uscire per loro l’acqua dalla roccia e darai da bere alla comunità e al loro bestiame».	8 'Take the branch and call the community together, you and your brother Aaron. Then, in full view ofthem, order this rock to release its water. You wil release water from the rock for them and provide drink for thecommunity and their livestock.'
9 Mosè dunque prese il bastone che era davanti al Signore, come il Signore gli aveva ordinato.	9 Moses took up the branch from before Yahweh, as he had directed him.
10 Mosè e Aronne radunarono l’assemblea davanti alla roccia e Mosè disse loro: «Ascoltate, o ribelli: vi faremo noi forse uscire acqua da questa roccia?».	10 Moses and Aaron then cal ed the assembly together in front of the rock. He then said to them,'Listen now, you rebels. Shall we make water gush from this rock for you?'
11 Mosè alzò la mano, percosse la roccia con il bastone due volte e ne uscì acqua in abbondanza; ne bevvero la comunità e il bestiame.	11 Moses then raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the branch; water gushed out inabundance, and the community and their livestock drank.
12 Ma il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: «Poiché non avete creduto in me, in modo che manifestassi la mia santità agli occhi degli Israeliti, voi non introdurrete quest’assemblea nella terra che io le do».	12 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Because you did not believe that I could assert my holinessbefore the Israelites' eyes, you wil not lead this assembly into the country which I am giving them.'
13 Queste sono le acque di Merìba, dove gli Israeliti litigarono con il Signore e dove egli si dimostrò santo in mezzo a loro.	13 These were the Waters of Meribah, where the Israelites laid the blame on Yahweh and where, bytheir means, he asserted his holiness.
14 Mosè mandò da Kades messaggeri al re di Edom, per dirgli: «Così dice Israele, tuo fratello: “Tu conosci tutte le tribolazioni che ci hanno colpito.	14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh: 'To the king of Edom. Your brother Israel says this: You areaware of the great hardships we have encountered.
15 I nostri padri scesero in Egitto e noi in Egitto dimorammo per lungo tempo e gli Egiziani maltrattarono noi e i nostri padri.	15 Our ancestors went down to Egypt and there we stayed for a long time. But the Egyptians treated usbadly, as they had our ancestors.
16 Noi gridammo al Signore ed egli udì la nostra voce e mandò un angelo e ci fece uscire dall’Egitto; eccoci ora a Kades, città al confine del tuo territorio.	16 When we appealed to Yahweh, he heard our cry and, sending an angel, brought us out of Egypt,and here we are, now, at Kadesh, a town on the borders of your territory.
17 Permettici di passare per il tuo territorio. Non passeremo per campi né per vigne e non berremo l’acqua dei pozzi; seguiremo la via Regia, non devieremo né a destra né a sinistra, finché non avremo attraversato il tuo territorio”».	17 We ask permission to pass through your country. We shall not go through the fields or vineyards; weshall not drink the water from the wel s; we shal keep to the king's highway without turning to right or left until wehave passed through your territory.'
18 Ma Edom gli rispose: «Tu non passerai da me; altrimenti uscirò contro di te con la spada».	18 To which, Edom replied, 'You wil not pass through my country; if you do, I shal oppose you by forceof arms.'
19 Gli Israeliti gli dissero: «Passeremo per la strada maestra; se noi e il nostro bestiame berremo la tua acqua, te la pagheremo: lasciaci soltanto transitare a piedi».	19 To which the Israelites replied, 'We shal keep to the high road; if I and my flocks drink any of yourwater, I am wil ing to pay for it. Al I am asking is to pass through on foot.'
20 Ma quegli rispose: «Non passerai!». Edom mosse contro Israele con molta gente e con mano potente.	20 Edom replied: 'You shal not pass,' and Edom opposed them in great numbers and great force.
21 Così Edom rifiutò a Israele il transito nel suo territorio e Israele si tenne lontano da lui.	21 At Edom's refusal to grant Israel passage through his territory, Israel turned away.
22 Tutta la comunità degli Israeliti levò l’accampamento da Kades e arrivò al monte Or.	22 They set out from Kadesh, and the Israelites, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.
23 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne al monte Or, sui confini del territorio di Edom:	23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the frontier of Edom, and said,
24 «Aronne sta per essere riunito ai suoi padri e non entrerà nella terra che ho dato agli Israeliti, perché siete stati ribelli al mio ordine alle acque di Merìba.	24 'Aaron is to be gathered to his people; he will not enter the country which I have given to theIsraelites, since you both disobeyed my order at the Waters of Meribah.
25 Prendi Aronne e suo figlio Eleàzaro e falli salire sul monte Or.	25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up Mount Hor.
26 Spoglia Aronne delle sue vesti e rivestine suo figlio Eleàzaro. Là Aronne sarà riunito ai suoi padri e morirà».	26 Then take Aaron's robes off him and dress his son Eleazar in them. Aaron wil then be gathered tohis people; that is where he will die.'
27 Mosè fece come il Signore aveva ordinato ed essi salirono sul monte Or, sotto gli occhi di tutta la comunità.	27 Moses did as Yahweh ordered. With the whole community watching, they went up Mount Hor.
28 Mosè spogliò Aronne delle sue vesti e ne rivestì Eleàzaro suo figlio. Là Aronne morì, sulla cima del monte. Poi Mosè ed Eleàzaro scesero dal monte.	28 Moses took Aaron's robes off him and dressed his son Eleazar in them, and there Aaron died, onthe mountain-top. Moses and Eleazar then came back down the mountain.
29 Tutta la comunità vide che Aronne era spirato e tutta la casa d’Israele lo pianse per trenta giorni.	29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and for thirty days the whole House of Israelmourned for Aaron.
