Esodo 20

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dio pronunciò tutte queste parole:	1 Then God spoke al these words. He said,
2 «Io sono il Signore, tuo Dio, che ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d’Egitto, dalla condizione servile:	2 'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.
3 Non avrai altri dèi di fronte a me.	3 'You shal have no other gods to rival me.
4 Non ti farai idolo né immagine alcuna di quanto è lassù nel cielo, né di quanto è quaggiù sulla terra, né di quanto è nelle acque sotto la terra.	4 'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.
5 Non ti prostrerai davanti a loro e non li servirai. Perché io, il Signore, tuo Dio, sono un Dio geloso, che punisce la colpa dei padri nei figli fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione, per coloro che mi odiano,	5 'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;
6 ma che dimostra la sua bontà fino a mille generazioni, per quelli che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.	6 but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 Non pronuncerai invano il nome del Signore, tuo Dio, perché il Signore non lascia impunito chi pronuncia il suo nome invano.	7 'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.
8 Ricòrdati del giorno del sabato per santificarlo.	8 'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
9 Sei giorni lavorerai e farai ogni tuo lavoro;	9 For six days you shal labour and do al your work,
10 ma il settimo giorno è il sabato in onore del Signore, tuo Dio: non farai alcun lavoro, né tu né tuo figlio né tua figlia, né il tuo schiavo né la tua schiava, né il tuo bestiame, né il forestiero che dimora presso di te.	10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.
11 Perché in sei giorni il Signore ha fatto il cielo e la terra e il mare e quanto è in essi, ma si è riposato il settimo giorno. Perciò il Signore ha benedetto il giorno del sabato e lo ha consacrato.	11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.
12 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, perché si prolunghino i tuoi giorni nel paese che il Signore, tuo Dio, ti dà.	12 'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.
13 Non ucciderai.	13 'You shal not kil .
14 Non commetterai adulterio.	14 'You shal not commit adultery.
15 Non ruberai.	15 'You shal not steal.
16 Non pronuncerai falsa testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo.	16 'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.
17 Non desidererai la casa del tuo prossimo. Non desidererai la moglie del tuo prossimo, né il suo schiavo né la sua schiava, né il suo bue né il suo asino, né alcuna cosa che appartenga al tuo prossimo».	17 'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'
18 Tutto il popolo percepiva i tuoni e i lampi, il suono del corno e il monte fumante. Il popolo vide, fu preso da tremore e si tenne lontano.	18 Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking,the people were al terrified and kept their distance.
19 Allora dissero a Mosè: «Parla tu a noi e noi ascolteremo; ma non ci parli Dio, altrimenti moriremo!».	19 'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'
20 Mosè disse al popolo: «Non abbiate timore: Dio è venuto per mettervi alla prova e perché il suo timore sia sempre su di voi e non pecchiate».	20 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'
21 Il popolo si tenne dunque lontano, mentre Mosè avanzò verso la nube oscura dove era Dio.	21 So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.
22 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Così dirai agli Israeliti: “Voi stessi avete visto che vi ho parlato dal cielo!	22 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.
23 Non farete dèi d’argento e dèi d’oro accanto a me: non ne farete per voi!	23 You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.
24 Farai per me un altare di terra e sopra di esso offrirai i tuoi olocausti e i tuoi sacrifici di comunione, le tue pecore e i tuoi buoi; in ogni luogo dove io vorrò far ricordare il mio nome, verrò a te e ti benedirò.	24 "You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.
25 Se tu farai per me un altare di pietra, non lo costruirai con pietra tagliata, perché, usando la tua lama su di essa, tu la renderesti profana.	25 If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.
26 Non salirai sul mio altare per mezzo di gradini, perché là non si scopra la tua nudità”.	26 You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '
