BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Chi ama la disciplina ama la scienza, chi odia la correzione è stolto.	1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.
2 Il buono si attira il favore del Signore, ma egli condanna l'intrigante.	2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.
3 Non resta saldo l'uomo con l'empietà, ma la radice dei giusti non sarà smossa.	3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.
4 La donna perfetta è la corona del marito, ma quella che lo disonora è come carie nelle sue ossa.	4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.
5 I pensieri dei giusti sono equità, i propositi degli empi sono frode.	5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.
6 Le parole degli empi sono agguati sanguinari, ma la bocca degli uomini retti vi si sottrarrà.	6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.
7 Gli empi, una volta abbattuti, più non sono, ma la casa dei giusti sta salda.	7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.
8 Un uomo è lodato per il senno, chi ha un cuore perverso è disprezzato.	8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.
9 Un uomo di poco conto che basta a se stesso vale più di un uomo esaltato a cui manca il pane.	9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.
10 Il giusto ha cura del suo bestiame, ma i sentimenti degli empi sono spietati.	10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.
11 Chi coltiva la sua terra si sazia di pane, chi insegue chimere è privo di senno.	11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.
12 Le brame dell'empio sono una rete di mali, la radice dei giusti produce frutti.	12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.
13 Nel peccato delle sue labbra si impiglia il malvagio, ma il giusto sfuggirà a tale angoscia.	13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.
14 Ognuno si sazia del frutto della sua bocca, ma ciascuno sarà ripagato secondo le sue opere.	14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.
15 Lo stolto giudica diritta la sua condotta, il saggio, invece, ascolta il consiglio.	15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.
16 Lo stolto manifesta subito la sua collera, l'accorto dissimula l'offesa.	16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.
17 Chi aspira alla verità proclama la giustizia, il falso testimone proclama l'inganno.	17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.
18 V'è chi parla senza riflettere: trafigge come una spada; ma la lingua dei saggi risana.	18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
19 La bocca verace resta ferma per sempre, la lingua bugiarda per un istante solo.	19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.
20 Amarezza è nel cuore di chi trama il male, gioia hanno i consiglieri di pace.	20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.
21 Al giusto non può capitare alcun danno, gli empi saranno pieni di mali.	21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.
22 Le labbra menzognere sono un abominio per il Signore che si compiace di quanti agiscono con sincerità.	22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.
23 L'uomo accorto cela il sapere, il cuore degli stolti proclama la stoltezza.	23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.
24 La mano operosa ottiene il comando, quella pigra sarà per il lavoro forzato.	24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.
25 L'affanno deprime il cuore dell'uomo, una parola buona lo allieta.	25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.
26 Il giusto è guida per il suo prossimo, ma la via degli empi fa smarrire.	26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 Il pigro non troverà selvaggina; la diligenza è per l'uomo un bene prezioso.	27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.
28 Nella strada della giustizia è la vita, il sentiero dei perversi conduce alla morte.	28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.
