| 1 « Al termine di ogni sette anni farai il condono. | 1 In the seventh year thou shalt make a remission, |
| 2 Ecco in che cosa consiste il condono: ogni creditore avente un pegno a sua disposizione condonerà ciò su cui ha pattuito con il suo prossimo con l’atto di pignorazione: non farà pressione nè sul suo prossimo nè sul suo fratello quando avrà fatto appello a Jahve per il condono. | 2 Which shall be celebrated in this order. He to whom any thing is owing from his friend or neighbour or brother, cannot demand it again, because it is the year of remission of the Lord, |
| 3 Potrai fare pressione sullo straniero, ma al tuo fratello condonerai quanto di suo avrai a tua disposizione. | 3 Of the foreigner or stranger thou mayst exact it: of thy countryman and neighbour thou shalt not have power to demand it again. |
| 4 D'altronde presso di te non ci sarà alcun povero; poichè Jahve certo ti benedirà nella terra che Jahve tuo Dio sta per darti in eredità, | 4 And there shall be no poor nor beggar among you: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in the land which he will give thee in possession. |
| 5 se tu però ascolterai veramente la voce di Jahve tuo Dio osservando e praticando tutto l’ordinamento che oggi ti prescrivo. | 5 Yet so if thou hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and keep all things that he hath ordained, and which I command thee this day, he will bless thee, as he hath promised. |
| 6 Quando Jahve tuo Dio ti avrà benedetto, come ti promise, farai prestito a molte nazioni, ma tu non prenderai prestiti, dominerai molte nazioni, ma esse non ti domineranno. | 6 Thou shalt lend to many nations, and thou shalt borrow of no man. Thou shalt have dominion over very many nations, and no one shall have dominion over thee. |
| 7 Se, nella terra che Jahve tuo Dio sta per concederti, in una delle tue porte vi sarà presso di te un povero, uno dei tuoi fratelli: non indurirai il tuo cuore nè chiuderai la mano al tuo fratello povero, | 7 If one of thy brethren that dwelleth within the gates of thy city in the land which the Lord thy God will give thee, come to poverty: thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor close thy hand, |
| 8 ma gli aprirai la mano, gli presterai quanto gli manca, ciò di cui ha bisogno. | 8 But shalt open it to the poor man, thou shalt lend him, that which thou perceivest he hath need of. |
| 9 Sta’ attento di non nutrire nel tuo cuore questo cattivo pensiero; “È vicino il settimo anno, l’anno del condono” e, se il tuo occhio è malvagio verso il tuo fratello povero, tu non gli dia nulla; egli griderebbe a fate contro di te e ci sarebbe un peccato su di te. | 9 Beware lest perhaps a wicked thought steal in upon thee, and thou say in thy heart: The seventh year of remission draweth nigh; and thou turn away thy eyes from thy poor brother, denying to lend him that which he asketh: lest he cry against thee to the Lord, and it become a sin unto thee. |
| 10 Da’ liberamente a lui e, mentre dai, il tuo cuore non sia malvagio; infatti Jahve tuo Dio per questo ti benedirà in ogni opera e impresa delle tue mani. | 10 But thou shalt give to him: neither shalt thou do any thing craftily in relieving his necessities: that the Lord thy God may bless thee at all times, and in all things to which thou shalt put thy hand. |
| 11 Poichè dalla terra non mancheranno mai i poveri, io ti prescrivo: “ Devi aprire la mano a tuo fratello, al tuo afflitto e al tuo povero nella tua terra ”’. | 11 There will not be wanting poor in the land of thy habitation: therefore I command thee to open thy hand to thy needy and poor brother, that liveth in the land. |
| 12 Se un tuo fratello, ebreo o ebrea, si vende a te, ti servirà per sei anni; ma al settimo anno lo manderai via libero da te | 12 When thy brother a Hebrew man, or Hebrew woman is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free: |
| 13 e, nel lasciarlo andare via libero da te, non lo manderai via a mani vuote, | 13 And when thou sendest him out free, thou shalt not let him go away empty: |
| 14 ma lo caricherai onorevolmente di doni del tuo bestiame minuto, della tua aia e del tuo pressoio secondo quanto ti permetterà la benedizione che .Jahve tuo Dio ti avrà dato, | 14 But shalt give him for his way out of thy flocks, and out of thy barnfloor, and thy winepress, wherewith the Lord thy God shall bless thee. |
| 15 Ricordati che tu fosti schiavo nella terra di Egitto e che Jahve tuo Dio ti ha liberato; perciò oggi ti prescrivo tale cosa. | 15 Remember that thou also wast a bondservant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God made thee free, and therefore I now command thee this. |
| 16 Ma se egli ti dice: “ Io non voglio andare via da te ” perchè egli ama te, la tua casa e perchè con te sta bene; | 16 But if he say: I will not depart: because he loveth thee, and thy house, and findeth that he is well with thee: |
| 17 allora tu prenderai un punteruolo e, contro la porta, gli forerai l’orecchio; egli allora ti sarà schiavo per sempre. Ugualmente farai verso la tua schiava. | 17 Thou shalt take an awl, and bore through his ear in the door of thy house, and he shall serve thee for ever: thou shalt do in like manner to thy womanservant also. |
| 18 Non ti rincresca di lasciarlo andare via libero da te, poichè, se ti ha servito per sei anni, ti ha reso un valore doppio del salario di un giornaliero. Jahve ti benedirà in ogni cosa che farai. | 18 Turn not away thy eyes from them when thou makest them tree: because he hath served thee six years according to the wages of a hireling: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the works that thou dost. |
| 19 Consacrerai a Jahve tuo Dio ogni primo nato maschio che sarà generato dal tuo bestiame grosso e dal tuo bestiame minuto. Non farai lavorare il primo nato del tuo bestiame grosso nè toserai il primo nato del tuo bestiame minuto. | 19 Of the firstlings, that come of thy herds and thy sheep, thou shalt sanctify to the Lord thy God whatsoever is of the male sex. Thou shalt not work with the firstling of a bullock, and thou shalt not shear the firstlings of thy sheep. |
| 20 Anno per anno lo mangerai, tu e la tua famiglia, al cospetto di Jahve tuo Dio nel luogo che sceglierà. | 20 In the sight of the Lord thy God shalt thou eat them every year, in the place that the Lord shall choose, thou and thy house. |
| 21 Se ha qualche difetto, come se è zoppo, cieco, o ha qualche altra tara, non lo sacrificherai a Jahve tuo Dio. | 21 But if it have a blemish, or be lame, or blind, or in any part disfigured or feeble, it shall not be sacrificed to the Lord thy God. |
| 22 Lo mangerai dentro le tue porte, l’impuro e il puro assieme, come mangeresti una gazzella e un cervo; | 22 But thou shalt eat it within the gates of thy city: the clean and the unclean shall eat them alike, as the roe and as the hart. |
| 23 soltanto non devi mangiare il sangue ma versarlo a terra come l’acqua ». | 23 Only thou shalt take heed not to eat their blood, but pour it out on the earth as water. |
