| 1 «Questi sono gli statuti e i decreti che baderete di eseguire nella terra che Jahvè, Dio dei tuoi padri, ti ha concesso affinché te ne impadronisca per tutti i giorni della vostra vita su quel suolo. | 1 "These are the statutes and ordinances which you shall be careful to do in the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess, all the days that you live upon the earth. |
| 2 Distruggerete interamente tutti i luoghi nei quali le nazioni che voi state per cacciare hanno reso culto ai loro dèi: luoghi sugli alti monti, sulle colline e sotto ogni albero frondoso. | 2 You shall surely destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains and upon the hills and under every green tree; |
| 3 Demolirete i loro altari, frantumerete le loro stele, svellerete i loro pali sacri, brucerete sul fuoco le statue dei loro dèi e cancellerete il loro nome da quei luoghi. | 3 you shall tear down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; you shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy their name out of that place. |
| 4 Con Jahvè vostro Dio non dovete agire così, | 4 You shall not do so to the LORD your God. |
| 5 ma verrete al luogo nel quale Jahvè vostro Dio, sceglierà tra tutte le tribù, di mettere suo nome; lo dovete cercare nella sua Dimora. | 5 But you shall seek the place which the LORD your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there; thither you shall go, |
| 6 Qui porterete i vostri olocausti, i vostri sacrifici, le vostre decime e il contributo delle vostre mani, le vostre offerte votive, le vostre offerte spontanee e i primogeniti del vostro bestiame grosso e del vostro bestiame minuto; | 6 and thither you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering that you present, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock; |
| 7 qui, dinanzi a Jahvè vostro Dio, mangerete e gioirete voi con le famiglie per ogni impresa delle vostre mani che Jahvè tuo Dio avrà benedetto per te. | 7 and there you shall eat before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the LORD your God has blessed you. |
| 8 Non farete, come noi stiamo facendo oggi, ciascuno ciò che è giusto ai propri occhi, | 8 You shall not do according to all that we are doing here this day, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; |
| 9 poiché ancora non siete entrati nel riposo e nell’eredità che Jahvè vostro Dio sta per concedervi. | 9 for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which the LORD your God gives you. |
| 10 Quando, invece, dopo aver attraversato il Giordano, abiterete nella terra che Jahvè vostro Dio sta per assegnarvi in eredità, quando vi avrà dato tranquillità da tutti i nemici che vi circondano e abiterete in sicurezza, | 10 But when you go over the Jordan, and live in the land which the LORD your God gives you to inherit, and when he gives you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you live in safety, |
| 11 allora porterete nel luogo nel quale Jahvè vostro Dio sceglierà di far dimorare il suo nome, tutto ciò che io oggi vi prescrivo: i vostri olocausti, i vostri sacrifici, le vostre decime, il contributo delle vostre mani e tutte le cose scelte che avete promesso in voto a Jahvè; | 11 then to the place which the LORD your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, thither you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the offering that you present, and all your votive offerings which you vow to the LORD. |
| 12 gioirete al cospetto di Jahvè vostro Dio, voi, i vostri figli e le vostre figlie, i vostri schiavi e le vostre schiave, il Levita che si trova entro le vostre porte. Questi, infatti, non ha con voi né parte né eredità. | 12 And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your menservants and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your towns, since he has no portion or inheritance with you. |
| 13 Guardati dal far salire i tuoi olocausti in ogni luogo che vedi; | 13 Take heed that you do not offer your burnt offerings at every place that you see; |
| 14 solo nel luogo che sceglierà Jahvè, in una delle tue tribù, potrai far salire i tuoi olocausti; là eseguirai quanto ti prescrivo. | 14 but at the place which the LORD will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you. |
| 15 Tuttavia a ogni desiderio della tua anima, tu potrai scannare e mangiare carne secondo quanto ti permetterà la benedizione che Jahvè ti avrà dato in ciascuna delle tue città; ne potranno mangiare chi è impuro e chi è puro, come se si trattasse di gazzella e di cervo. | 15 "However, you may slaughter and eat flesh within any of your towns, as much as you desire, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which he has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and as of the hart. |
| 16 Però non mangerete il sangue ma lo spanderete sulla terra come l’acqua. | 16 Only you shall not eat the blood; you shall pour it out upon the earth like water. |
| 17 Nelle tue città non potrai mangiare la decima del tuo frumento, del tuo mosto e del tuo olio, i primogeniti del tuo bestiame grosso e del tuo bestiame minuto, nessuna delle tue offerte votive né le tue offerte spontanee né il contributo delle tue mani; | 17 You may not eat within your towns the tithe of your grain or of your wine or of your oil, or the firstlings of your herd or of your flock, or any of your votive offerings which you vow, or your freewill offerings, or the offering that you present; |
| 18 le mangerai invece al cospetto di Jahvè tuo Dio nel luogo che Jahvè tuo Dio sceglierà: le mangerai tu con il figlio e la figlia, lo schiavo e la schiava, il Levita che si trova entro le tue porte e gioirai al cospetto di Jahvè tuo Dio per ogni opera delle tue mani. | 18 but you shall eat them before the LORD your God in the place which the LORD your God will choose, you and your son and your daughter, your manservant and your maidservant, and the Levite who is within your towns; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God in all that you undertake. |
| 19 Per tutti i giorni che passi sul tuo suolo, guardati dal trascurare il Levita. | 19 Take heed that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land. |
| 20 Quando, come ti ha promesso, Jahvè tuo Dio avrà ampliato i tuoi confini e, se la tua anima desidera di mangiare carne, tu penserai: “Vorrei mangiare carne”, potrai mangiare carne secondo ogni desiderio della tua anima. | 20 "When the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as he has promised you, and you say, 'I will eat flesh,' because you crave flesh, you may eat as much flesh as you desire. |
| 21 Se il luogo dove Jahvè tuo Dio ha scelto di porre il suo nome è distante da te, potrai scannare del tuo bestiame grosso e del tuo bestiame minuto che Jahvè ti avrà dato, nel modo che ti ho prescritto; ne potrai mangiare tra le tue porte secondo ogni desiderio della tua anima; | 21 If the place which the LORD your God will choose to put his name there is too far from you, then you may kill any of your herd or your flock, which the LORD has given you, as I have commanded you; and you may eat within your towns as much as you desire. |
| 22 però ne mangerai come si mangia la gazzella e il cervo, ne mangeranno ugualmente chi è impuro e chi è puro. | 22 Just as the gazelle or the hart is eaten, so you may eat of it; the unclean and the clean alike may eat of it. |
| 23 Però sii forte, non mangiare il sangue poiché il sangue è la vita e con la carne tu non devi mangiare la vita. | 23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood; for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh. |
| 24 Non lo devi mangiare, lo devi spandere sulla terra come l’acqua. | 24 You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out upon the earth like water. |
| 25 Non lo devi mangiare e sarai felice tu con i figli dopo di te perché hai compiuto quanto è giusto agli occhi di Jahvè. | 25 You shall not eat it; that all may go well with you and with your children after you, when you do what is right in the sight of the LORD. |
| 26 Tuttavia prenderai le tue cose sacre e le tue offerte votive, le porterai nel luogo che Jahvè sceglierà | 26 But the holy things which are due from you, and your votive offerings, you shall take, and you shall go to the place which the LORD will choose, |
| 27 e farai i tuoi olocausti della carne e del sangue sull’altare di Jahvè tuo Dio: il sangue dei tuoi sacrifici sarà sparso sull’altare di Jahvè tuo Dio e mangerai la carne. | 27 and offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, on the altar of the LORD your God; the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of the LORD your God, but the flesh you may eat. |
| 28 Osserva e pratica tutti questi ordini che ti prescrivo e sarai felice per sempre tu con i figli dopo di te, perché hai compiuto quanto è bene e giusto agli occhi di Jahvè tuo Dio. | 28 Be careful to heed all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you for ever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God. |
| 29 Quando, là dove tu stai per entrare, Jahvè tuo Dio avrà eliminato le nazioni, cacciandole dinanzi a te, quando ti sarai impadronito di esse e abiterai nella loro terra: | 29 "When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, |
| 30 guardati dal lasciarti prendere nel laccio imitandole dopo che furono annientate dinanzi a te; guardati dall’indagare sui loro dèi pensando: “Come servivano i loro dèi queste nazioni? Anch'io voglio fare così”. | 30 take heed that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods?--that I also may do likewise.' |
| 31 Non devi agire così verso Jahvè tuo Dio, poiché essi hanno fatto per i loro dèi quanto è in abominio e in odio a Jahvè, fino a bruciare nel fuoco ai loro dèi i propri figli e le proprie figlie». | 31 You shall not do so to the LORD your God; for every abominable thing which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. |
| 32 "Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to it or take from it. |
