Lucas 18

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Les decía una parábola para inculcarles que era preciso orar siempre sin desfallecer.	1 Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continual y and never lose heart.
2 «Había un juez en una ciudad, que ni temía a Dios ni respetaba a los hombres.	2 'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone.
3 Había en aquella ciudad una viuda que, acudiendo a él, le dijo: “¡Hazme justicia contra mi adversario!”	3 In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice fromyou against my enemy!"
4 Durante mucho tiempo no quiso, pero después se dijo a sí mismo: “Aunque no temo a Dios ni respeto a los hombres,	4 For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God norrespect for any human person,
5 como esta viuda me causa molestias, le voy a hacer justicia para que no venga continuamente a importunarme.”»	5 I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she wil come and slap me in the face." '
6 Dijo, pues, el Señor: «Oíd lo que dice el juez injusto;	6 And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say?
7 y Dios, ¿no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que están clamando a él día y noche, y les hace esperar?	7 Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep cal ing to him day and night even though hestill delays to help them?
8 Os digo que les hará justicia pronto. Pero, cuando el Hijo del hombre venga, ¿encontrará la fe sobre la tierra?»	8 I promise you, he wil see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes,wil he find any faith on earth?'
9 Dijo también a algunos que se tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás, esta parábola:	9 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being upright and despisedeveryone else,
10 «Dos hombres subieron al templo a orar; uno fariseo, otro publicano.	10 'Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax col ector.
11 El fariseo, de pie, oraba en su interior de esta manera: “¡Oh Dios! Te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres, rapaces, injustos, adúlteros, ni tampoco como este publicano.	11 The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping,unjust, adulterous like everyone else, and particularly that I am not like this tax col ector here.
12 Ayuno dos veces por semana, doy el diezmo de todas mis ganancias.”	12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on al I get."
13 En cambio el publicano, manteniéndose a distancia, no se atrevía ni a alzar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho, diciendo: “¡Oh Dios! ¡Ten compasión de mí, que soy pecador!”	13 The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beathis breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."
14 Os digo que éste bajó a su casa justificado y aquél no. Porque todo el que se ensalce, será humillado; y el que se humille, será ensalzado».	14 This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself upwil be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself wil be raised up.'
15 Le presentaban también los niños pequeños para que los tocara, y al verlo los discípulos, les reñían.	15 People even brought babies to him, for him to touch them; but when the disciples saw this theyscolded them.
16 Mas Jesús llamó a los niños, diciendo: «Dejad que los niños vengan a mí y no se lo impidáis; porque de los que son como éstos es el Reino de Dios.	16 But Jesus cal ed the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stopthem; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.
17 Yo os aseguro: el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como niño, no entrará en él».	17 In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enterit.'
18 Uno de los principales le preguntó: «Maestro bueno, ¿qué he de hacer para tener en herencia vida eterna?»	18 One of the rulers put this question to him, 'Good Master, what shal I do to inherit eternal life?'
19 Le dijo Jesús: «¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Nadie es bueno sino sólo Dios.	19 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you cal me good? No one is good but God alone.
20 Ya sabes los mandamientos: No cometas adulterio, no mates, no robes, no levantes falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre».	20 You know the commandments: You shal not commit adultery; You shal not kil ; You shall not steal;You shal not give false witness; Honour your father and your mother.'
21 El dijo: «Todo eso lo he guardado desde mi juventud».	21 He replied, 'I have kept all these since my earliest days.'
22 Oyendo esto Jesús, le dijo: «Aún te falta una cosa. Todo cuanto tienes véndelo y repártelo entre los pobres, y tendrás un tesoro en los cielos; luego, ven y sígueme».	22 And when Jesus heard this he said, 'There is stil one thing you lack. Sell everything you own anddistribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.'
23 Al oír esto, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.	23 But when he heard this he was overcome with sadness, for he was very rich.
24 Viéndole Jesús, dijo: «¡Qué difícil es que los que tienen riquezas entren en el Reino de Dios!	24 Jesus looked at him and said, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to make their way into thekingdom of God!
25 Es más fácil que un camello entre por el ojo de una aguja, que el que un rico entre en el Reino de Dios».	25 Yes, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someone rich to enter thekingdom of God.'
26 Los que lo oyeron, dijeron: «¿Y quién se podrá salvar?»	26 Those who were listening said, 'In that case, who can be saved?'
27 Respondió: «Lo imposible para los hombres, es posible para Dios».	27 He replied, 'Things that are impossible by human resources, are possible for God.'
28 Dijo entonces Pedro: «Ya lo ves, nosotros hemos dejado nuestras cosas y te hemos seguido».	28 But Peter said, 'Look, we left al we had to follow you.'
29 El les dijo: «Yo os aseguro que nadie que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, padres o hijos por el Reino de Dios,	29 He said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there is no one who has left house, wife, brothers, parents orchildren for the sake of the kingdom of God
30 quedará sin recibir mucho más al presente y, en el mundo venidero, vida eterna».	30 who will not receive many times as much in this present age and, in the world to come, eternal life.'
31 Tomando consigo a los Doce, les dijo: «Mirad que subimos a Jerusalén, y se cumplirá todo lo que los profetas escribieron para el Hijo del hombre;	31 Then taking the Twelve aside he said to them, 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everythingthat is written by the prophets about the Son of man is to come true.
32 pues será entregado a los gentiles, y será objeto de burlas, insultado y escupido;	32 For he wil be handed over to the gentiles and wil be mocked, maltreated and spat on,
33 y después de azotarle le matarán, y al tercer día resucitará».	33 and when they have scourged him they will put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.'
34 Ellos nada de esto comprendieron; estas palabras les quedaban ocultas y no entendían lo que decía.	34 But they could make nothing of this; what he said was quite obscure to them, they did not understandwhat he was tel ing them.
35 Sucedió que, al acercarse él a Jericó, estaba un ciego sentado junto al camino pidiendo limosna;	35 Now it happened that as he drew near to Jericho there was a blind man sitting at the side of the roadbegging.
36 al oír que pasaba gente, preguntó qué era aquello.	36 When he heard the crowd going past he asked what it was all about,
37 Le informaron que pasaba Jesús el Nazoreo	37 and they told him that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by.
38 y empezó a gritar, diciendo: «¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!»	38 So he called out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.'
39 Los que iban delante le increpaban para que se callara, pero él gritaba mucho más: «¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!»	39 The people in front scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted al the louder, 'Son ofDavid, have pity on me.'
40 Jesús se detuvo, y mandó que se lo trajeran y, cuando se hubo acercado, le preguntó:	40 Jesus stopped and ordered them to bring the man to him, and when he came up, asked him,
41 «¿Qué quieres que te haga?» El dijo: «¡Señor, que vea!»	41 'What do you want me to do for you?' 'Sir,' he replied, 'let me see again.'
42 Jesús le dijo: «Ve. Tu fe te ha salvado».	42 Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you.'
43 Y al instante recobró la vista, y le seguía glorificando a Dios. Y todo el pueblo, al verlo, alabó a Dios.	43 And instantly his sight returned and he fol owed him praising God, and al the people who saw it gavepraise to God.
