1 Habitaverunt autem princi pes populi in Ierusalem; reli qua vero plebsmisit sortem, ut adducerent unum virum de decem ad habitandum in Ierusalemcivitate sancta, novem vero partes in civitatibus.1 The leaders of the people took up residence in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people cast lots to bring one man in ten to reside in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the other nine would remain in the other cities.
2 Benedixit autem populusomnibus viris, qui se sponte obtulerant, ut habitarent in Ierusalem.2 The people applauded all those men who willingly agreed to take up residence in Jerusalem.
3 Hi suntitaque principes provinciae, qui habitaverunt in Ierusalem et in civitatibusIudae. Habitavit autem unusquisque in possessione sua, in urbibus suis, Israel,sacerdotes, Levitae, oblati et filii servorum Salomonis.
3 These are the heads of the province who took up residence in Jerusalem. (In the cities of Judah dwelt lay Israelites, priests, Levites, temple slaves, and the descendants of the slaves of Solomon, each man on the property he owned in his own city.)
4 Et in Ierusalem habitaverunt de filiis Iudae et de filiis Beniamin. De filiisIudae: Athaias filius Oziam filii Zachariae filii Amariae filii Saphatiae filiiMalaleel, de filiis Phares;4 In Jerusalem dwelt both Judahites and Benjaminites. Of the Judahites: Athaiah, son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mehallalel, of the sons of Perez;
5 et Maasia filius Baruch filius Cholhoza filiusHazia filius Adaia filius Ioiarib filius Zachariae filius Silonitis.5 Maaseiah, son of Baruch, son of Colhozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, a son of the Shelanites.
6 Omnesfilii Phares, qui habitaverunt in Ierusalem, quadringenti sexaginta octo virifortes.
6 The total of the sons of Perez who dwelt in Jerusalem was four hundred and sixty-eight valiant men.
7 Hi sunt autem filii Beniamin: Sallu filius Mosollam filius Ioed filius Phadaiafilius Colaia filius Maasia filius Etheel filius Iesaia;7 These were the Benjaminites: Sallu, son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah, son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,
8 et fratres eius virifortes, nongenti viginti octo.8 and his brethren, warriors, nine hundred and twenty-eight in number.
9 Et Ioel filius Zechri praepositus eorum, etIudas filius Asana super civitatem secundus.
9 Joel, son of Zichri, was their commander, and Judah, son of Hassenuah, was second in charge of the city.

14 and his brethren, warriors, one hundred and twenty-eight. Their commander was Zabdiel, son of Haggadol.
15 Et de Levitis: Semeia filius Hassub filius Ezricam filius Hasabia filiusBunni;15 Among the Levites were Shemaiah, son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son of Bunni;
16 et Sabethai et Iozabad super omnia opera, quae erant forinsecus indomo Dei, de principibus Levitarum;16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, levitical chiefs who were placed over the external affairs of the house of God;
17 et Matthania filius Micha filius Zebedaeifilius Asaph magister chori incohabat orationem; et Becbecia secundus defratribus eius, et Abda filius Sammua filius Galal filius Idithun.17 Mattaniah, son of Micah, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, director of the psalms, who led the thanksgiving at prayer; Bakbukiah, second in rank among his brethren; and Abda, son of Shammua, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun.
18 OmnesLevitae in civitate sancta ducenti octoginta quattuor.
18 The total of the Levites in the holy city was two hundred and eighty-four.
19 Et ianitores: Accub, Telmon et fratres eorum, qui custodiebant ostia, centumseptuaginta duo.
19 The gatekeepers were Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren, who kept watch over the gates; one hundred and seventy-two in number.
20 Et reliqui ex Israel sacerdotes et Levitae in universis civitatibus Iudae,unusquisque in possessione sua.20 The rest of Israel, including priests and Levites, were in all the other cities of Judah, each man in his inheritance.
21 Et oblati habitabant in Ophel; et Siha etGaspha super oblatos.
21 The temple slaves lived on Ophel. Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple slaves.
22 Et praefectus Levitarum in Ierusalem Ozi filius Bani filius Hasabiae filiusMatthaniae filius Michae de filiis Asaph, cantores in ministerio domus Dei.22 The prefect of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi, son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micah; he was one of the sons of Asaph, the singers appointed to the service of the house of God--
23 Praeceptum quippe regis super eos erat, et ordo in cantoribus per dies singulos.
23 for they had been appointed by royal decree, and there was a fixed schedule for the singers assigning them their daily duties.
24 Et Phethahia filius Mesezabel de filiis Zara filii Iudae, legatus regis inomni negotio populi.
24 Pethahiah, son of Meshezabel, a descendant of Zerah, son of Judah, was royal deputy in all affairs that concerned the people.
25 Et in viculis per omnes regiones eorum, de filiis Iudae habitaverunt inCariatharbe et in pagis eius et in Dibon et in pagis eius et in Cabseel et inviculis eius25 As concerns their villages in the country: Judahites lived in Kiriath-arba and its dependencies, in Dibon and its dependencies, in Jekabzeel and its villages,
26 et in Iesua et in Molada et in Bethpheleth26 in Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-pelet,
27 et in Asarsual etin Bersabee et in pagis eius27 in Hazarshual, in Beer-sheba and its dependencies,
28 et in Siceleg et in Mochona et in pagis eius28 in Ziklag, in Meconah and its dependencies,

30 Zanoa, Odollam et in villis earum,Lachis et regionibus eius et Azeca et pagis eius. Et habitaverunt a Bersabeeusque ad vallem Ennom.
30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its countryside, Azekah and its dependencies. They were settled from Beer-sheba to Ge-hinnom.
31 Filii autem Beniamin in Gabaa, Machmas et Hai et Bethel et pagis eius,31 Benjaminites were in Geba, Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its dependencies,
32 Anathoth, Nob, Anania,32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
33 Asor, Rama, Getthaim,33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
34 Hadid, Seboim et Neballat,34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,
35 Lod et Ono et valle Artificum.35 Lod, Ono, and the Valley of the Artisans.
36 Et de Levitis portiones in Iuda et Beniamin.
