1 L'anno ventitre di Gioas figliuolo di Ochozia re di Giuda, regnò Joachaz figliuolo di Jehu sopra Israele in Samaria per diciassette anni.	1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, the king of Judah, Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, reigned over Israel, in Samaria, for seventeen years.
2 Ed egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, e imitò i peccati di Geroboam figliuolo di Nabath (il quale fece peccare Israele), né mai se ne ritrasse.	2 And he did evil before the Lord. And he followed the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. And he did not turn aside from these.
3 E si accese il furor del Signore contro Israele, e li diede in potere di Hazael re di Siria, e in potere di Benadad figliuolo di Hazael per tutto quel tempo.	3 And the fury of the Lord was enraged against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael, the king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, during all the days.
4 Ma Joachaz si presento supplichevole dinanzi al Signore, e il Signore lo esaudì, perchè egli rimirò le angustie d'Israele, straziato dai re di Siria:	4 But Jehoahaz petitioned the face of the Lord, and the Lord heeded him. For he saw the anguish of Israel, because the king of Syria had oppressed them.
5 E mandò il Signore un salvatore ad Israele, e questi fu liberato dal potere dei re di Siria, onde i figliuoli d'Israele poteron vivere nelle loro tende come pell'avanti.	5 And the Lord gave a savior to Israel. And they were freed from the hand of the king of Syria. And the sons of Israel lived in their tabernacles, just as yesterday and the day before.
6 Eglino con tutto ciò non lasciarono i peccati della casa di Geroboam, il quale indusse Israele a peccare, ma gli imitarono, conciossiache anche quel bosco rimase in piedi in Samaria.	6 Yet truly, they did not withdraw from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had caused Israel to sin. Instead, they walked by them. And there was even a sacred grove still remaining in Samaria.
7 Or della gente (da guerra) non restavano a Joachaz se non cinquanta soldati a cavallo, e dieci cocchi, e diecimila fanti; perocché il re di Siria ne avea fatto macello, e gli avea ridotti come la polvere dell'aia, dove si batte il grano.	7 And there was left to Jehoahaz from the people nothing but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers. For the king of Syria had killed them, and he had reduced them to become like dust on a threshing floor.
8 Il rimanente poi delle azioni di Joachaz, e tutto quello, ch'egli operò, e la sua fortezza, queste cose non son elleno descritte nel diario de' fatti dei re d'Israele?	8 But the rest of the words of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his strength, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
9 E Joachaz andò a riposare co' padri suoi, e lo seppellirono in Samaria, e Gioas suo figliuolo gli succedette nel regno.	9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Joash, his son, reigned in his place.
10 L'anno trentasettesimo di Gioas re di Giuda, Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz regnò sopra Israele in Samaria per anni sedici,	10 In the thirty-seventh year of Jehoash, the king of Judah, Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, reigned over Israel, in Samaria, for sixteen years.
11 Ed egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore; non si ritrasse da veruno dei peccati di Geroboam figliuolo di Nabath (il quale indusse Israele a peccare), ma gli imitò.	11 And he did what is evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn aside from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. Instead, he walked by them.
12 Ma ìl rimanente delle azioni di Gioas, e tutte le cose, ch'ei fece, e il suo valore, e come ei fece guerra ad Amasia re di Giuda, tutto questo non è egli descritto nel diario de' fatti dei re a Israele?	12 But the rest of the words of Joash, and all that he did, and his strength, the manner in which he fought against Amaziah, the king of Judah, have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
13 E Gioas andò a riposare co' padri suoi; e Geroboam sali sul trono di lui. E Gioas fu sepolto in Samaria cogli altri re d'Israele.	13 And Joash slept with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat upon his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria, with the kings of Israel.
14 Or Eliseo era malato di quella malattia, di cui morì, e Gioas re d'Israele andò a trovarlo, e piangeva dinanzi a lui, e diceva: Padre mio, padre mio, cocchio, e cocchiere d'Israele.	14 Now Elisha was sick of the infirmity from which he also died. And Joash, the king of Israel, descended to him. And he was weeping before him, and saying: “My father, my father! The chariot of Israel and its driver!”
15 Ed Eliseo disse: Porta qua un arco con delle frecce: e quando quegli ebbe portato l'arco, e le frecce,	15 And Elisha said to him, “Bring a bow and arrows.” And when he had brought a bow and arrows to him,
16 Egli disse al re d'Israele: Metti la tua mano sull'arco. E quando il re vi ebbe posta la mano, Eliseo pose le sue mani sulle mani del re,	16 he said to the king of Israel, “Place your hand upon the bow.” And when he had placed his hand, Elisha place his own hands over the hands of the king.
17 E disse: Apri la finestra a levante. E quando quegli la ebbe aperta, disse Eliseo: Tira la freccia. Ed ei la tirò, ed Eliseo disse: Freccia di salute del Signore, freccia di salute contro la Siria: tu metterai in rotta la Siria ad Apnee fino all'esterminio.	17 And he said, “Open the window toward the east.” And when he had opened it, Elisha said, “Shoot an arrow.” And he shot it. And Elisha said: “It is the arrow of the salvation of the Lord, and the arrow of salvation against Syria. And you shall strike the Syrians at Aphek, until you consume them.”
18 E disse: Prendi delle frecce. E quand'ei le ebbe prese, gli disse di bel nuovo: Percuoti colle tue frecce la terra. E quegli la percosse tre volte, e si fermò:	18 And he said, “Take the arrows.” And when he had taken them, he then said to him, “Strike an arrow against the ground.” And when he had struck three times, and he had stood still,
19 E l'uomo di Dio si adirò contro di lui, e disse: Se tu avessi dato cinque, o sei, o sette colpi, tu avresti sconfitta la Siria fino all'ultimo esterminio: ora poi tu la porrai in rotta tre volte.	19 the man of God became angry against him. And he said: “If you had struck five or six or seven times, you would have struck down Syria, even until it was consumed. But now you will strike it three times.”
20 Eliseo di poi si morì, e lo seppellirono. Or lo stesso anno i ladroni di Moab entrarono nel paese.	20 Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the robbers from Moab came into the land in the same year.
21 E certuni, che portavano a seppellire un uomo, videro i ladroni, e gettarono quel cadavere nel sepolcro di Eliseo; e toccate che ebbe le ossa di Eliseo, quell'uomo risuscitò, e si alzò su' suoi piedi.	21 But certain ones who were burying a man saw the robbers, and they cast the dead body into the sepulcher of Elisha. But when it had touched the bones of Elisha, the man revived, and he stood upon his feet.
22 Hazael re di Siria straziò Israele tutto il tempo del regno di Joachaz.	22 Now Hazael, the king of Syria, afflicted Israel during all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 Ma il Signore ebbe pietà di essi, e torno a loro a causa del patto fatto da lui con Abramo, e Isacco, e Giacobbe: e non volle sperderli, né rigettarli affatto sino a questo tempo.	23 But the Lord took pity on them, and he returned to them, because of his covenant, which he had made with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob. And he was not willing to destroy them, nor to cast them out completely, even to the present time.
24 Or Hazael re di Siria morì, e gli succedette nel regno Benadad suo figliuolo.	24 Then Hazael, the king of Syria, died. And Benhadad, his son, reigned in his place.
25 Ma Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz ritolse a Benadad figliuolo di Hazael le città, che questi avea tolte in guerra a Joachaz suo padre. Gioas tre volte lo sconfisse, ed egli rendè ad Israele quel le città.	25 Now Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, by a just war, took the cities from the hand of Benhadad, the son of Hazael, which he had taken from the hand of Jehoahaz, his father. Jehoash struck him three times, and he restored the cities to Israel.
