1 Rut dopo che fu ritornata dalla sua suocera sentì dirsi da lei: « Figlia mia, io ti cercherò la pace e farò che tu sia felice:	1 But afterwards, when she returned to her mother-in-law, Naomi said to her: “My daughter, I will seek rest for you, and I will provide so that it may be well with you.
2 quel Booz, colle fanciulle del quale sei stata nel campo, è no­stro parente, e stanotte vaglia l'orzo nella sua aia.	2 This Boaz, whose young women you joined in the field, is our near relative, and this night he will winnow the threshing floor of barley.
3 Su via lavati, ungiti, indossa le vesti mi­gliori, e va all'aia; ma non ti far vedere da quell'uomo, fin­ché non abbia finito di mangia­re e di bere.	3 Therefore, wash and anoint yourself, and put on your decorative garments, and go down to the threshing floor, but do not let the man see you, while he finishes eating and drinking.
4 Quando poi andrà a dormire, guarda dove dorme, accostati, alzagli il mantello dal­la parte dei piedi, e mettiti lì a dormire, chè poi lui ti dirà quel che tu abbia a fare ».	4 But when he goes sleep, observe the place where he sleeps. And you will approach and lift up the covering, the part which covers near his feet, and lay yourself down, and sleep there; but he will tell you what you are obliged to do.”
5 Rut ri­spose: « Farò quanto mi dici ».	5 She answered, “I will do everything as you have instructed.”
6 Infatti andò all'aia e fece tutto ciò che la suocera le aveva or­dinato.	6 And she went down to the threshing floor, and she did everything that her mother-in-law had commanded her.
7 Or quando Booz dopo aver mangiato e bevuto, col cuore traboccante di gioia, andò a dor­mire presso il monte dei covoni, Rut vi andò di nascosto, e al­zatogli il mantello dalla parte dei piedi, vi si coricò.	7 And when Boaz had finished eating and drinking, and he was merry, and he had gone to sleep by the pile of sheaves, she approached secretly, and, lifting the covering near his feet, she laid herself down.
8 Nel mez­zo della notte Booz fu preso dallo spavento e dal turbamento nel vedere una donna che gia­ceva ai suoi piedi,	8 And behold, when it was the middle of the night, the man became frightened and confused, and he saw a woman lying near his feet.
9 e le disse: « Chi sei tu? » Ed essa rispose: « Io sono Rut tua serva: stendi il tuo mantello sopra la tua ser­va, perchè tu sei mio parente ».	9 And he said to her, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your handmaid. Spread your covering over your servant, for you are a near relative.”
10 Ed egli rispose: « Figlia, tusei benedetta dal Signore, tu hai superato coll'ultima la prima misericordia, perchè non sei an­data dietro ai giovani, poveri o ricchi che siano.	10 And he said, “You are blessed by the Lord, daughter, and you have excelled beyond your earlier benevolence, because you have not followed young men, whether poor or rich.
11 Non temere adunque: io farò per te quanto mi dirai, perchè tutto il popolo che abita dentro le porte della mia città sa che sei una donna virtuosa.	11 Therefore, do not be afraid, but whatever you decide about me, I will accomplish for you. For all the people, who dwell within the gates of my city, know that you are a virtuous woman.
12 Io non nego di esse­re parente; ma ve n'è un altro più stretto di me.	12 Neither do I deny myself to be a near relative, but there is another nearer than I.
13 Riposati qui stanotte, e domani, se egli vorrà prenderti pel diritto di parente­la, bene; ma se non vorrà pren­derti lui, senza dubbio alcuno, ti prenderò io. Viva il Signore! Dormi fino al mattino ».	13 Be at peace for this night. And when morning arrives, if he is willing to uphold the law of kinship for you, things will turn out well; but if he is not willing, then, I will take you, without any doubt, as the Lord lives. Sleep until morning.”
14 Rut dormì adunque ai piedi di Booz sino al finis della notte, e si alzò prima che gli uomini potessero conoscersi l'un l'altro. Allora Booz le disse: « Guarda che nes­suno sappia che sei venuta qui ».	14 And so she slept by his feet until the night was ending. And she arose before men could inquire of one another. And Boaz said, “Be careful, lest someone know that you came here.”
15 Le disse ancora: « Stendi il mantello che hai addosso e tienlo colle mani ». Avendo essa teso e tenuto il mantello, Booz le diede sei moggia d'orzo e glielo pose sulle spalle. Rut lo portò via, ed entrata in città,	15 And again he said, “Spread your mantle that covers you, and hold it with both hands.” As she extended it and held it, he measured six measures of barley and placed it upon her. Carrying it, she went into the city.
16 andò dalla sua suocera, la quale le disse: « Che hai dunque fatto, fi­glia mia? » Rut le raccontò tut­to ciò che le aveva detto quel­l'uomo,	16 And she came to her mother-in-law, who said to her: “What have you been doing, daughter?” And she explained to her all that the man had accomplished for her.
17 e aggiunse: « M'ha anche dato sei moggia d'orzo, dicendomi: Non voglio che tu ritorni dalla tua suocera a mani vuote ».	17 And she said, “Behold, he gave me six measures of barley, for he said, ‘I am not willing to have you return empty to your mother-in-law.’ ”
18 Noemi disse: « Aspetta, o figlia, finché non si sappia come va a finir la cosa; che quell'uomo non si darà pace finché non avrà eseguito quanto ha promesso ».	18 And Naomi said, “Wait, daughter, until we see how things will turn out. For the man will not rest until he has accomplished what he said.”
