Terza lettera di Giovanni 1

1 L'Anziano al carissimo Gaio, che io amo nella verità.	1 The ancient to the dearly beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Carissimo, io prego perchè tutte le tue cose vadan bene e la tua salute sia prospera, come è quella dell'anima tua.	2 Dearly beloved, concerning all things I make it my prayer that thou mayest proceed prosperously, and fare well as thy soul doth prosperously.
3 Mi son molto rallegrato all'arrivo dei fratelli, i quali hanno resa testimonianza riguardo alla tua sincerità e al tuo modo di vivere secondo la verità.	3 I was exceedingly glad when the brethren came and gave testimony to the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 Non posso avere gioia, maggiore di questa, di sapere che i miei figlioli vivono secondo la verità.	4 I have no greater grace than this, to hear that my children walk in truth.
5 Carissimo, tu agisci fedelmente in tutto quello che fai verso i fratelli, specialmente pellegrini.	5 Dearly beloved, thou dost faithfully whatever thou dost for the brethren, and that for strangers,
6 Essi hanno attestata la tua carità davanti alla Chiesa, e tu farai bene a provvedere al loro viaggio in modo degno di Dio;	6 Who have given testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church: whom thou shalt do well to bring forward on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7 perchè in suo nome son partiti senza ricever nulla dai Gentili;	7 Because, for his name they went out, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8 e noi dobbiamo accogliere tali persone, per cooperare alla verità.	8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow helpers of the truth.
9 Avrei scritto forse alla Chiesa, ma colui che vi ambisce il primato, Diotrefe, non vuol saper di noi.	9 I had written perhaps to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, doth not receive us.
10 Ma se verrò farò vedere le opere che fa e le ciance che dice contro di noi, e, come se ciò non gli bastasse, non solo non riceve i fratelli, ma, a quelli che li ricevono, lo proibisce, e li caccia dalla Chiesa.	10 For this cause, if I come, I will advertise his works which he doth, with malicious words prating against us. And as if these things were not enough for him, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that do receive them he forbiddeth, and casteth out of the church.
11 Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi fa il bene è da Dio; chi fa il male non ha veduto Dio.	11 Dearly beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doth good, is of God: he that doth evil, hath not seen God.
12 In quanto a Demetrio, gli è resa testimonianza da tutti e dalla stessa verità, ed anche noi gli rendiamo testimonianza; e tu sai bene che la nostra testimonianza è verace.	12 To Demetrius testimony is given by all, and by the truth itself, yea and we also give testimony: and thou knowest that our testimony is true.
13 Avrei molte cose da scriverti, ma non voglio farlo con inchiostro e penna,	13 I had many things to write unto thee: but I would not by ink and pen write to thee.
14 perchè spero di vederti quanto prima, e allora ci parleremo faccia a faccia. La pace sia teco. Saluta gli amici a uno a uno.	14 But I hope speedily to see thee, and we will speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
