1 L'anno secondo del re Dario, nel sesto mese, il primo del mese, il Signore parlò per mezzo del profeta Aggeo a Zorobabele figlio di Salatici, principe di Giuda, e a Gesù figlio di Iosedec sommo sacerdote, dicendo:	1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of Yahweh wasaddressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel governor of Judah and to Joshua son ofJehozadak the high priest as fol ows,

3 Ma la parola del Signore è venuta per mezzo del profeta Aggeo e dice:	3 (And the word of Yahweh was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows,)
4 Per voi dunque è il tempo d'abitare in case con bei soffitti, mentre questa casa è deserta?	4 'Is this a time for you to live in your panel ed houses, when this House lies in ruins?
5 Or dunque cos dice il Signore degli eserciti: Considerate attentamente il vostro modo di procedere:	5 So now, Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think careful y about your behaviour.
6 avete seminato molto e raccolto poco; avete mangiato, ma senza saziarvi; avete bevuto, ma senza rallegrarvi: vi siete coperti senza riscaldarvi; e chi ha accumulati risparmi li ha messi in una tasca rotta.	6 You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have yourfill, put on clothes but feel no warmth. The wage-earner gets his wages only to put them in a bag with a hole init."
7 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Considerate il vostro modo di procedere,	7 Yahweh Sabaoth says this, "Think careful y about your behaviour.
8 andate al monte, portate il legname, riedificate la casa: mi sarà gradita, e sarò glorificato — dice il Signore. —	8 Go up into the hills, fetch timber and rebuild the House; and I shal take pleasure in it and manifest myglory there -- Yahweh says.
9 Voi speravate tanto; ma s'è ridotto a poco; lo portaste a casa; ma lo feci sparire in un soffio. E perchè? — dice il Signore degli eserciti — Perchè la mia casa è deserta, mentre tutti avete avuta gran fretta per la vostra casa.	9 The abundance you expected proved to be little. When you brought the harvest in, I blasted it. Andwhy? - Yahweh Sabaoth declares. Because while my House lies in ruins, each of you is busy with his ownhouse.
10 Per questo fu proibito ai cieli di darvi la rugiada, e alla terra di darvi i suoi frutti.	10 That is why the sky has withheld the rain and the earth withheld its yield.
11 Io feci venire la siccità sulla terra e sui monti, sul grano, sul vino e sull'olio, su tutti i prodotti del suolo, sugli uomini e sulle bestie, su tutti i lavori delle mani ».	11 I have cal ed down drought on land and hil s, on grain, on new wine, on olive oil and on al the produceof the ground, on humans and animals and al your labours." '
12 Zorobabele, figlio di Salatiel, e il sommo sacerdote Gesù, figlio di Iosedec, e tutto il resto del popolo ascoltarono la voce del Signore loro Dio, le parole del profeta Aggeo, mandato ad essi dal Signore loro Dio, e il popolo temè il Signore.	12 Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak the high priest and the entire remnant of thepeople, paid attention to the voice of Yahweh their God and to the words of the prophet Haggai, which Yahwehtheir God had sent him to deliver. And the people were fil ed with fear before Yahweh.
